BUSINESS OF THE MONTH
Get Your Tickets!
APRIL
25 Bruce Hier and Robbie Person proudly accept the Business of the Month award as Chamber President, Pam Ridler, Chamber Chairman, Michael Likens and Chamber Ambassadors show their support.
The Castle Rock Chamber of Commerce honors Hier Drilling Company as our March Business of the Month recipient. Hier Drilling has been a member of the Castle Rock Chamber for more than 40 years, making them our longest standing members! Hier Drilling Co has been in business since October 1973, continuing the tradition of Hier & Price Drilling, started in 1944 by Archie Hier and Art Price. The company split in 19721973, when the pump service was sold to Ralph Norden, JA Price took on the deep industrial type work, and Hier Drilling has been doing the domestic work here in Douglas County ever since. In 1973, George Hier moved from the field into the office. subsequently, Bruce & Robbie Hier Person worked for the company starting in the 1980's, and upon George's retirement, took ownership of the company, beginning the 3rd generation of family ownership. In 2008, Hier Drilling purchased Norden Pump Service, bringing that part of the water well industry back into the company structure. So now they are a full service drilling, installation and service company serving DougBus iness Voice News let ter ~ Marc h 2014 ~
las, Elbert, Arapahoe, and portions of El Paso, Jefferson, Adams, Park, Weld, and Denver counties. They pride themselves in being able to help people in the drilling process, from permitting through the completion of the well/pump system, and have multiple service crews to try to get you back in water as soon as possible. They are licensed and bonded through the Colorado Division of Water Resources. (Holding the 2nd oldest active license in the State). They are members of the Colorado Water Well Contractors Association, and the National Ground Water Association. In 1959, Hier & Price attended the first ever Douglas County Junior Livestock sale, and that is a tradition at Hier Drilling Co and they are very proud to have been able to participate in for the past 40 years. They also are supporters of the CALF project at the Lowell Ranch. Please visit their website at www.hierdrillingco.com or call 303-688-3012 for information. Congratulations from the Castle Rock Chamber for being recognized as an outstanding business!

Developing Leaders-Leadership Douglas County March’s Class Topic: Energy Resources and Water Sustainability Day Steering Committee Planners: Stephen Micolajzeck, Doug Campbell, Ann Speer Sponsors of the day: LDC would like to thank our Host Sponsor for the day: Parker Water and Sanitation District! Lunch was generously provided by Firehouse Subs of Parker and IREA. The Leadership Douglas County class learned that “first in line, first in right” is the basis of Colorado’s priority system under water law, as explained by Dr. John Hendricks of the Centennial Water District. The class discovered in depth, what is happening in Douglas County in the areas of water, energy and conservation. With so much happening in the areas of water and the recent addition of the Rueter-Hess Reservoir to the county’s infrastructure, the day was filled with a number of experts in their respective fields discussing current trends and long-term plans for some of the county’s most complex issues. The class also heard from Josh Liss, Manager of Public Affairs, IREA, Chris McGowne of Colorado Gas & Oil and Tom Henley of Xcel. Mr. Veda Ball of TeamWise led a workshop on conflict management during the leadership skills segment, where participants practiced listening, removing emotion from the situation and, increasing their ability to utilize more options during difficult conversations. Water 101 session focused on water demand and management, but also about the need for good communications with the public. Tours of the North Water Treatment Plant and Rueter-Hess Reservoir completed the day.
Leadership Douglas County helps emerging and recognized leaders expand their skills, enhance their knowledge of local and state issues, and increase their effectiveness, while leveraging their individual passion to have a positive impact on their community. For more information on the Leadership Douglas County program, or to visit a class, please call Carrie at 720.440.3726 or email info@LeadershipDouglasCounty.com. Applications for the 2014-15 year are now available and class size is limited.
