Chamber Welcomes a Familiar Face to the Team You may have no&ced a new but familiar face in the Chamber offices lately. The Chamber is proud to introduce Sue Turner as our new Office Administrator. Sue is a Colorado native who enjoys time with family, travel, golf, and community events. She has lived in Castle Rock for 19 years along with her husband Brett, who runs their printing, promotional products and custom apparel business, “180° Branding.” Sue and Brett had talked about moving to a warmer climate with Palm Trees where there’s no snow, however over the last 6+ years as their business relationships have been turning into friendships, they realized just how warm the people of Castle Rock and the surrounding communities are so they’ve decided to stay and continue to build their business here and vacation in warmer areas when possible. After all, the weather in Colorado is fairly nice throughout the year with exception of a few weeks in the winter. Sue decided the best way to continue to grow in the community was as a member of the Chamber staff, in addition to being a Chamber member! She likes to meet new business members who usually become friends over a short time. There really are no strangers within the Castle Rock Chamber, and the Chamber staff and membership has a sense of camaraderie and almost family. Sue commented, “There isn’t much I wouldn’t do for these people as we all watch out for each other.” Sue has a strong work history in administrative, financial and event planning roles, which will be a great asset to the Chamber staff as she can jump in and help wherever needed with the membership as well as the Chamber events throughout the year. We are very excited and thrilled to welcome Sue to our Chamber Team. 3

Outstanding Ambassador Recognized Angela Formby, along with her husband Bryan, jumped at the opportunity to relocate to Colorado, in 2010, and have enjoyed exploring new opportuni&es for their family. They have a 14 year old son who excels in music and looks forward to high school…well, that last statement may be a bit of an exaggera&on, he is a teenager aWer all… In her free &me, Angela enjoys studying the history, tradi&ons and language of Germany, a significant part of her heritage. Angela and her family love living in and being part of the Castle Rock community. Angela has been a member of the DCF Guns’ family for nearly three years as the Opera&ons Manager and Compliance Officer. While her primary responsibili&es of ATF and OSHA compliance allow her the opportunity to work in a challenging environment, the community service aspect of personal, family, and community safety are what she finds the most rewarding. Addi&onally, the opportuni&es she's been given to lend a voice in support of our 2nd Amendment rights are invaluable and she hopes to help mold legisla&on. Angela is honored to be part of this team as both the store and industry grow and change. She extends a gra&tude of thanks to the owners of DCF Guns and the Castle Rock Chamber of Commerce for allowing her the opportunity to represent and support business in our community. Our Chamber Ambassadors encourage and support new businesses which enriches our community in countless ways. Congratula&ons to Angela Formby for being recognized as our Ambassador of the Month.

LOCAL CEOs SHARE TIPS WITH TEEN CEOs “Most people roman'cize the prospect of owning their first business, and that’s perfectly understandable un'l they try. Castle Rock’s Young Entrepreneurs Academy does a great job of helping ambi'ous students understand what it takes to run a business. YEA shows the kids how to morph their dreams into a profitable reality. Along the way, they’ll rub elbows with professionals and consultants, soaking up “real life” advice to help them down the path. A terrific opportunity for everyone involved. Brian Parker, Typical Genius. In Douglas County Young Entrepreneurs learn those at the Top On a February 9, students from Douglas County’s Young Entrepreneurs Academy (YEA!) were introduced to Albert Chai, Seth Warren, Shawn Early and John Manka from Blue Spruce Animal Clinic, Dickey’s Barbeque Pit, Pepsi Beverage Company and 1 Stop Tire & Auto. These local CEOs and entrepreneurs fielded ques&ons from students and emcee Randy Ridler from Northstar Bank, as they discussed their roles, companies, backgrounds, and offered helpful business and networking advice to the students. They were able to share how they got their start in business to this next genera&on of CEOs.
If you, or someone you know, is interested in par&cipa&ng in YEA! as either a student, mentor, guest speaker, volunteer graphic designer or web developer, please contact CastleRockYEA@gmail.com. The Young Entrepreneurs Academy (YEA!) is a groundbreaking and exci&ng year long class that transforms middle and high school students into real, confident entrepreneurs. Founded in 2004 at the University of Rochester with support from the Kauffman Founda&on, and brought to the State of Colorado in 2012 by the Castle Rock Chamber of Commerce, the Young Entrepreneurs Academy serves thousands of students in communi&es across America.
“As a non-profit organiza&on, YEA! relies on the generosity of the community and of sponsors; people who iden&fy with entrepreneurship and want to help pave the way for the future business leaders of tomorrow. “YEA! strengthens the community, and the community strengthens YEA!,” said Gayle Jagel, the Founder and CEO of the Young Entrepreneurs Academy, based in Rochester, New York. “Our program managers and instructors seek out people in every facet of the business community in which the program is housed, in order to help facilitate the crea&on of our student’s dreams- into a reality.”

Developing Leaders in Douglas County I recently accepted the opportunity to be Execu've Director/CEO of Pikes Peak Habitat for Humanity. When the opportunity to apply for the posi'on was presented, I am not sure I would have applied had I not par'cipated in the LDC program. The orienta'on to LDC included BreakThroughs, Inc. facilita'ng a two-day leadership and teambuilding seminar with one segment focused on "Breakthroughs in A=tude." During this session, I realized I had created self-imposed career and personal limita'ons, though con'nually seeking challenges. I commi2ed to myself I would find a way to step outside my comfort zone. Applying for the execu've director posi'on was a big step in the right direc'on; accep'ng the posi'on was an even larger and deeply sa's- January’s Transporta&on, Economic Development and Master Plan Day fying step for me.
