P am Ridler, CCE P resident/CEO Castle Rock Chamber
Moving communities forward requires leaders to emerge from all business sectors and all employment levels. Have you considered what your leadership role within our community is or will be? Have you ever asked your friends or colleagues how they view you as a leader? Another interesting question is what type of legacy do you want to leave behind?

Session 3– Financial Reporting Sys tems
What is “ASK CREG” ? The January session of the Chamber’s Business Boot Camp was the first of two addressing financial monitoring. Instructor Mike Tafoya, CEO Coach at Estrada Strategies - DTC, pointed out that financial reports are the “steering wheel” of the business. Numbers tell the real story about the performance and condition of a company. The participants focused on the Income Statement (measuring the efficiency of the operation over time) and the Balance Sheet (measuring the company’s financial health at a moment in time). “Flying blind” while running a business is a recipe for failure. However, systematic monitoring of the data in these reports can provide early warning and guidance so the owner can keep the company on course. The February session will continue on this track and cover the Cash Flow statement and various financial performance ratios. This is a series of Business Boot Camp training highlights by Brian Leugs, President of Business Communications Support, Boot Camp Mentor Chamber Member. For more information on Business Boot Camp, visit the Castle Rock Economic Gardener's website: www.CastleRockEG.com or contact Pam@castlerock.org.
“Ask CREG” is an online panel of local community business expert s who are committed to empowering and equipping business owners to grow and succeed. We believe that through local collaboration and business enrichment we will positively impact the local economy. Running a successful business takes more than luck. Learn how CREG can help your new or existing business succeed. “Ask CREG” today, it’s fast & easy! View more questions and answers at: www.CastleRockEG.com/blog

A 40-hour training will be held throughout April, starting April 4. Applications are now available by calling 303-663-6110 or emailing VictimsAssistance@CRgov.com. Because the application includes an interview and a criminal background check, applications will only be accepted until March 8.
Volunteers are needed to offer emotional support and crisis intervention to people who are victims of crime or other tragic events. The volunteers provide victims with information on the criminal justice system and other resources to meet their needs. At least one victim advocate is on call each day of the weekend and for evening hours during the week. “These dedicated volunteers help hundreds of victims of crime and those affected by other tragic events each year,” said Victim Assistance Coordinator Carole Malezija. “They are a critical member of the Town’s emergency response team.”
Volunteers must be at least 21 years old, be able to work on-call, have an open and non-judgmental attitude and be able to communicate effectively. All volunteers are required to complete the April training and a four-hour ride-a-long with a Castle Rock police officer. Questions? Contact Victims Assistance Coordinator Carole Malezija, 303663-6110 or email her at cmalezija@CRgov.com.

The ABC focuses on encouraging and rewarding excellence among the students of CVHS and reengaging parents and the community in the education of our youth. CVHS would like to thank Castle Rock businesses for their ongoing support of the school by hiring CVHS students, participating in fundraisers and offering great products and services to the school community. CVHS is often asked by local businesses how they can support the school in more ways than fundraising. Did you know that CVHS has more than 1,700 students whose families support local business? It makes sense for CVHS and the local business community to work together to create the best learning environment for its students. Today's students are tomorrow’s employees, business owners, leaders and Chamber members! Creating Community Leaders Leadership Douglas County January’s Topics: Government and Transportation Speakers: Leadership Skill - Servant Leadership - Bob Baker (Assistant Chief, South Metro Fire Rescue Authority) Local Mayors Panel: Mayor Gunning (Lone Tree), Mayor Huff (Castle Pines), Mayor Waid (Parker), Matt Krimme r (Larkspur Town Manager) and Je rry Flanne ry (Highlands Ranch Community Association General Manager and CEO) Douglas County Comm issione r Jack Hilbe rt Centennial Airport Presentation – Robert Olislagers, Executive Director of Ce ntennial Airport Regional T ransportation Pane l: Herman Stockinger (Director of the Office of Policy and Governme nt Relations, CDOT), Larry Warner (Facilitator for the C470 Coalition) and Steve Hebe rt (Community Development Director, City of Lone T ree)
January’s topics for the Leadership Douglas County class were Government and Transportation. The morning began with a Local Mayor’s roundtable discussion at the Lone Tree Civic Center, thanks to one of our program’s patron sponsors, the City of Lone Tree. The Mayor’s Roundtable was a great way for the class participants to interact one-on-one with each of the Mayors and leaders from the Douglas County communities. Commissioner Hilbert also presented to the class, discussing his role as a commissioner, the value of building partnerships and relationships and what he views as critical concerns facing Douglas County. On the transportation side, the class learned about the third busiest general aviation airport in the country. The Centennial Airport has approximately one billion dollars in economic impact and supports around 10,000 jobs, with 27% of Colorado’s GDP generated within a five mile radius. Turning to land transportation, the Regional Transportation Panel began the discussion with a statewide perspective on population increase vs. lanes opening and the transportation funding shortage at the state and federal levels. Go to yourcdotdollar.com to see how much how much you contribute each year to keep Colorado’s transportation system moving. Switching gears, the next topic was the C-470 Corridor coalition – who they are, why they want action taken, the technical solution and funding options. The panel ended with the connection between transportation and land use from Belleview south along I-25.
“Best day thus far, provided much of what I’d hoped for with this LDC program. The Mayors, City Managers, Commissioner and transportation officials were extraordinary in their knowledge and ability to present it to our class. What I learned today has affected my view of leadership, provided valuable information and affirmed my pride in Douglas County.” Stephen Mikolajczak, RE/MAX Professionals. Steering Committee Planners: Kristen Knoll, Matt Goudy and John Thornton, class of 2012
Leadership Douglas County would like to acknowledge Patron Sponsors: The City of Lone Tree and Douglas County Government.
