Town Manager, Mark Stevens reports in 2012 our sales tax revenues are up 10.9% over the same period in 2011. The third quarter of the year sales tax stats include: The Outlet Mall is up 7.5%, the Milestone and Metzler increased by 6.2%, the downtown retail is up 10.4% and the Founders Marketplace area is up 8.3%. Throughout the entire community, food and general merchandise is up 7.1%; hotels and restaurants are up 12%; furniture and home decor is up 19.9%; and home and garden up 8.8%.

In addition, 2012 is shaping up as our best year since 2007 in terms of new residential unit construction. Our residential construction year to date has increased by 78% (454 new residential unit permits vs. 255 thru the same period in 2011). I believe this confirms Money Magazine’s announcement earlier this year identifying Castle Rock as #16 Best Place to live in the US (#1 in Colorado).

It is nearly impossible for one organization to be successful in achieving all its goals of economic vitality; however, after four years the Castle Rock Economic Partnership (CREP) has made some major strides as a public/private collaboration. Our partners consist of the Town, Chamber, Economic Development Council (EDC), Downtown Development Authority (DDA) and Downtown Merchants Association (DMA). This type of collaborative approach to community economic development is neither easy nor common.

The CREP team is currently preparing plans for our economic development priorities and approaches for 2013. Future tactics are being developed to imple ment and track the conditions and trends in our local economy and our performance in core economic development strategies.

Business of the Month-Outlets at Castle Rock The Castle Rock Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce its November recipient for Business of the Month —Outlets at Castle Rock. They have been proud members of the Castle Rock Chamber of Commerce for more than 20 years.

Outlets at Castle Rock, which opened in 1992, is celebrating its 20th anniversary with the opening of 10 new high-end retail stores in just one year, a feat no other retail er in the region has seen in the current economy. These stores include Michael Kors, Aldo Shoes, Le Creuset, Restoration Hardware, White House Black Market, American Eagl e, Jos. A. Bank, Clarks Bostonian, Oakley Vault and Aaron Barrick, Chamber’s Chairman of the Board, proudly presents the Business of the Month Award

DownEast Basics. Along with the additional stores, to Allison Towe and the Outlets at Castle Rock staff as the Chamber Ambassadors show their support.

Coach expanded its line at the outlet center with a Coach Men’s Factory opening in September, more than doubling its size from a 3,200-square-foot store to 7,600-square-feet. With the addition of the new stores at the center, more th an 185 jobs were added to the metro Denver and Colorado Springs area.

With the addition of 10 new stores, five of which opened in November, Outlets at Castle Rock has not only increased the interest of its current consumers, but has also attracted a new lev el of consumers desiring higher-end stores. These high-end stores still offer outlet pricing models, which are typically 30 to 70 percent less than traditional retail stores, making the outlets shopping center a premier destination for shoppers, both in Castle Rock, along the front range in the Denver metro and Colorado Springs region and to national and international visitors as well.

DC Non-Profits Join Forces to Promote Giving Locally Why would 22 local charities vying for the same pool of dollars work collaboratively?

To promote the importance of charitable giving within your one community!

This summer, representatives from local charities began working together to form the Douglas County Non-Profit Coalition (DCNPC). The coalition is dedicated "to promoting, growing and finding synergies among local charities through increased awareness" of the broad array of charitable organizations within Douglas County.

The effort is centered around those organizations eligible to participate in Colorado Gives Day, an annual event aimed at increasing philanthropy in Colorado during a 24hour period of giving.

In its third year, Colorado Gives Day is scheduled for Tuesday, December 4, 2012.

This overwhelmingly successful event was created in 2010 by the Community First Foundation with the financial support from FirstBank.

In an effort to raise $500,000 collectively among the participating charities on Colorado Gives Day, DCNPC has developed a website - www.DouglasCountyGives.org - and has created social media sites and other marketing tools through the assistance of FirstBank of Douglas County and the Douglas County Community Foundation. In addition, Colorado Community Media has agreed to be the Coalition's Media Partner and will help promote the Coalition's local fundraising efforts.

The website (designed by gopixel design studios), DouglasCountyGives.org is launched and ready for Colorado Gives Day and is a resource for anyone wanting to learn about the wide range of philanthropic organizations located within the County.

Contributions can be made to the participating non-profits directly from the website.

I have worked in the community, with my husband, in Real Estate for 10 years and have more recently taught Kindergarten. While teaching, I began as an Independent Distributor for Premier Designs Jewelry as a fun part-time job to make extra money and as a way to get out with other women. My dad had a stroke that left him unable to care for himself, so I now share in his care. As a result, I now work my Premier Designs Jewelry business full time, as this allows me to work around my dad’s schedule.

Once beginning Premier full time, I decided the best thing to do was to get involved with the community through the Chamber. I joined the Chamber in June of 2011 and became an Ambassador in February of 2012.

Joining the Chamber has broadened my friendships and business connections greatly.

I have met so many wonderful people who live and work in this beautiful town and I am honored to serve the residents. There are so many dedicated Ambassadors here at the Castle Rock Chamber, that the award of Ambassador of the Month was quite a shock. I am blessed to have this recognition and thank the Chamber for this opportunity.

When I’m not working as a Jewelry Lady or Ambassador, family time is a priority.

When time allows, I enjoy dancing, playing piano, hiking and traveling.

Town & County News & Events Dry weather causes Town to implement fire restrictions - In Colorado, we usually equa te winte r with snow. However, unseasonably dry conditions mean fire restrictions in Castle Rock. Acting on authority granted by Town Council, Town Manager Mark Stevens and Fire and Rescue Chief A rt Morales im plemente d Stage 1 fire res trictions. Inquiries regarding the curre nt status of fire restrictions in town should be directed to the Fire Chief’s Office, 303-660-1066.

Council Confirms Appointment of New Finance Director - Recently, Trish Mulle r removed the “acting” from he r title as s he officially assumed her new position as the Town’s finance director. Mulle r had bee n acting in that capacity since the Town’s forme r finance dire ctor resigned in August. She had served as the Town’s assis tant finance director since 2009. The Town conducted a nationwide search for its next finance director this fall.

Muller eme rged as the top candidate from among more than 75 applicants. Town Council unanimous ly voted to formalize he r appointment, as recommended by Town Manager M a rk S t e v e ns .

Utilities Dire ctor Ron Redd announced his resigna tion after being appointe d manager of the Pa rker Water & Sanitation Dis trict.“ As with all major life changes, this was a difficult de cision,” Redd wrote in an email to colleagues. “I will greatly m iss my team and the great employees of Castle Rock.” The move is a step up for Re dd, who has led the Town’s Utilities Department since 2001. His last day with the Town will be Dec. 12. At that time, Assistant Utilities Director Rick W ilkey will become acting utilities director.

Our CEO’s also touched on for profit vs. not for profit systems, the trends of hospitals/health ca re around the country and the issues and challenges that we face in Douglas County. The reoccurring message is that we a ll need to take responsibility and be an active participant in our own health care.

The CEO and COO from the Children’s Hospital Highlands Ranch Proje ct sha red with the class the progress of the ir new s outh campus, the first phase of the building is 175,000 squa re feet sitting on 22 acres of land and is a $100 m illion dollar project s lated to open in late 2013/early 2014. Children’s Hos pital Colorado is the second largest children’s hospital in the country; patients come from every s tate in the country with the exception of Louis iana.

Rounding out the health care side of the day were speakers from the De partment of Health Care Policy and Financing and the Colorado Health Benefit E xchange. A brief overview was given on Health Care Reform and Colora do’s response to the Pa tient Protection and Affordable Health Care Act.
