CDOT has worked on a Planning and Environmental Linkages study examining the 34-mile stretch of Interstate 25 between C-470 and Monument for more than a year, according to a news release issued by Douglas County.

The Gap spans approximately 18 miles within that area, beginning south of Castle Rock and ending with Monument. The roadway is notorious for creating a bottleneck, where the interstate shrinks to two lanes in each direction, and unpredictable travel times.

CDOT announced in April when it debuted its environmental assessment of the Gap it planned to widen that portion of I-25 by adding one toll lane in each direction. About the Program

BRIDGING THE GAP Leadership Douglas County class of 2018 partners with Stone Canyon Outdoor EdVentures

Leadership Douglas County is designed to bring diverse people together to enhance their experiences, perspectives and take their personal and professional leadership journey to the next level.

These multiple crossings along the half-mile of creek will also enable guests to utilize more of the property at Stone Canyon, including during the runoff season. The class raised more than $6,000.00 to help pay for this enormous undertaking. DeYoung Brothers Construction, who led the class through this project, also donated generous amounts of time, talent, tools and materials to see to it that this project was done right and will last for years to come!

Leaving a legacy, through a significant class project, is the goal of each Leadership Douglas County (LDC) class.

The LDC Class of 2017-2018 unanimously selected Stone Canyon Outdoor EdVentures for their community project in Douglas County. Located near Larkspur, Stone Canyon provides experiential adventure and social-based Members of the 2018 Class programming to develop graduated on June 6, at The responsible individuals, daring Highlands Ranch Mansion. leaders, and highly effective teams. The facility is widely regarded as one of the best places for outdoor education by many of the school districts along the Front Range.

East Plum Creek bisects the Stone Canyon property, creating a natural barrier. Until this project, a few small handmade footbridges were used to get participants over the creek. However, during the spring and early summer, the creek crossing swells with snowmelt and rain, making the north side of the site inaccessible, which includes a zip line, a campfire gathering place, and the best area for star gazing. In addition, there are numerous safety concerns with the current footbridges including need of constant repair, unstable handrails, an d in ac c e s s ibi l ity f or handicapped guests. LDC constructed 4 pier-style footbridges, and one vehicle bridge at Stone Canyon, allowing for easier and safer access to activities. The bridges will greatly impact Stone Canyon’s ability to offer programs to people of all ages and physical abilities.
