THANK YOU SPONSORS!

Check out the Chamber’s Home page for up to date, relevant business #ps and techniques Op*mizing for the ‘near me’ trend Shoppers increasingly use “near meâ€? (e.g., “hotels near meâ€?) as a way to locate products or services in their neighborhood. In fact, by the end of last year, use of “near meâ€? in searches increased 130%. The “near meâ€? phenomenon is an element of hyperlocal marke#ng. That is, marke#ng to customers based upon their loca#on. There are simple things that small businesses can do to take advantage of this trend. First, make sure your Google My Business page is op#mized. Fill out every ďŹ eld and include appealing images. Next, develop localized website content that would interest people in your area. If you run a restaurant, for example, your site should focus on issues related to food lovers in your area rather than general informa#on that would interest people everywhere. Include local points of interest, such as landmarks and des#na#ons. If you have mul#ple loca#ons, create local landing pages for each. Finally, consider using schema markup on your website code. This allows you to precisely deďŹ ne various business a6ributes for search engines, including business type, hours, address, la#tude and longitude, phone number and more. Schema markup can be complicated, but a simpliďŹ ed approach can be found at h6p://dbhc.us/12 Want to keep new hires happy? Meet with them at the 90-day mark to ask “What’s dierent about your job or our organiza#on from what you were expec#ng?â€? Unrealized expecta#ons can create dissa#sfac#on for new employees, so asking the ques#on directly gives you much-needed informa#on. You can also use the feedback to minimize surprises for future hires. Source: www.ithinkbigger.com

Boomers retailers

feeling

overlooked

by

Retailers may want to do more to build loyalty with shoppers over age 55. Many baby boomers are feeling “overlookedâ€? or “not rewardedâ€? and will shop where they feel they aren’t overlooked, even if that means switching to a compe#tor, according to new data from SSI and ICLP. “Brands typically target their mobile and online marke#ng eorts at millennials because they are the largest and most tech-savvy genera#on. However, by doing so, they risk overlooking baby boomers, who are also highly inuen#al and o[en more auent shoppers,â€? said Phil Seward, Regional Director, Americas at ICLP. Here are three #ps from ICLP to begin building be6er loyalty: First, boomers don’t expect relevant recommenda#ons, so make recommenda#ons more relevant to their interests and needs, rather than generalizing. Next, treat them as an individual by personalizing emails and other branded contact. Finally, train employees to be6er understand what the demographic wants. Training employees how to remember the names of frequent customers could also be of help. Source: Bizreport.com, Jan. 27, 2017

The key to eec*ve networking is to focus on being helpful to others. Start asking people to call you if they need something and be ready to assist. Try to make deposits in a “favor bankâ€? that you may be able to withdraw from at some point, though not necessarily from the people you helped. Use social networking websites and your chamber of commerce as much as possible to make connec#ons. To speed up the process, make friends with people who are networking geniuses. They will connect you with the people in their networks. Source: www.wallstreetjournal.com 21

Building Community Leadership

Program Goals of LDC: • Engage, support, and mobilize leaders to make a posi ve difference in their community

Leadership Douglas County (LDC), now in its 18th year, helps emerging and recognized leaders who are seeking to make a posi#ve impact on their community, expand their skills, enhance their knowledge of local and state issues and increase their effec#veness as ci#zens and business peoples in Douglas County. Par#cipants are given the opportunity to discover how they can affect their community, and lead effec#vely, as an individual and as part of a group, to make Douglas County a be6er place to live and work. In January, the class explored Economic Development, Transporta#on and Master Plan, which provided par#cipants with informa#on and insight into the factors that impact Douglas County economic development and how transporta#on and master planning are key factors in a strong economy. LDC would like to thank the day’s sponsors, Charles Schwab & Co. and the City of Lone Tree, who provided the venue and meals for the day. In February, LDC class members experienced the diversity of educa#onal services in Douglas County through a panel of representa#ves from private and public ins#tu#ons from pre-k to post grad. CU South Denver at the Wildlife Experience served as the morning host. In the a[ernoon, the new Parker Library was the site for a con#nuing discussion on the evolving landscape of 21st Century educa#on and the role of libraries in our culture, and specifically in Douglas County, as they support crea#ve learning opportuni#es, events

and celebra#ons that are meaningful to residents. On the first Wednesday of each month, LDC focuses on a different aspect of the county that is vital to a sustainable, vibrant community. A leadership skill component is also a part of each day. Leadership Douglas County is currently accep*ng applica*ons for the 2017-18 class that kicks off with an overnight retreat in September. The applica*on deadline is June 20th, 2017. Space is limited. APPLY EARLY. For more informa#on on LDC, or for an applica#on, visit www.leadershipdoulglascounty.org For ques#ons, contact Carrie Buchaninfo@leadershipdouglascounty.com or call 720.440.3726.

To visit one of the remaining 201617 monthly classes (April 5, May 3, June 1), please contact Carrie at 720.440.3726.

Established by the Castle Rock Chamber of Commerce in 1999, Leadership Douglas County is a nonprofit, nonpar#san, program designed to broaden par#cipant knowledge of the community while enhancing leadership skills, to increase the strength and effec#veness of our community leaders.
