Farewell From Our Chairwoman Dear Castle Rock Chamber Members As I write this le:er, I feel the need to repeat what my predecessors opened their final le:ers with; the Chamber’s Mission: To support and promote member businesses, be a business voice in government se?ngs, and foster a livable community with posi1ve growth. Serving on the Chamber Board of Directors since 2012, with the last year serving as Chair of the Board, has been an amazing privilege and opportunity. The privilege is serving the Castle Rock Businesses and Community and the opportunity has been the wonderful people I have met and come to know.

Elyse McNulty 2015-2016 Board of Directors Chairwoman Kaiser Permanente

I look forward to the con1nued privilege of working with Pam Ridler and her excep1onal staff as the incoming Chairman, John Manka, leads us in to another fantas1c year. Without Pam and her Staff, none of the events, educa1onal and community services, commi:ees, etc. would exist. They certainly could con1nue on with different people, but they would not have the Team’s special brand, dedica1on and enthusiasm brought to each and everything they touch. Their standard of excellence is no1ced by all. I have go:en to know John Manka on the Board of Directors, and this past year on the Execu1ve Commi:ee, and I am so excited to see what he will bring to this role. His years of experience in the Castle Rock Community will con1nue to make him a shining star. Best wishes, John! I would like to extend a special thank you to the Chamber members serving 1relessly on the board, commi:ees, and task forces. My kudos goes out to our Ambassadors represen1ng our wonderful business community, as well as all those who volunteer and contribute in so many other ways. I look forward to seeing all of you at upcoming events. A sincere thank you to Pam, Alicia, John, Melissa, Sue, Judy, Sonia and Angela for always making me feel so supported. This past year has been one of the top highlights of my life. With all my best, Elyse McNulty

Outstanding Ambassadors The Castle Rock Chamber honors BeHy Graf as our March Ambassador of the Month.

The Castle Rock Chamber honors Melanie Calhoun as our April Ambassador of the Month.

Be:y Graf moved to Castle Rock eight years ago and loves it here! She grew up in small towns in Kansas and loves the fact that Castle Rock has that same small town feel. AOer living with Betty Graf her husband overseas for Reliv International nine years, Be:y was ready to se:le down and live a quieter life in Colorado. Be:y joined the chamber six years ago and is in her fiOh year as a Chamber Ambassador. She finds being an Ambassador a great fit since she loves mee1ng new people and developing rela1onships with business owners. Be:y has u1lized the many Chamber networking events such as the Leads referral groups to promote her business with great success. For Be:y, it’s a way for her to be “plugged” into the business community.

For the last seventeen years, I have worked as a Real Estate Assistant in the community alongside my husband, Tom Calhoun, who is a realtor with RE/MAX Alliance. I joined the Chamber in June of 2011 and became an Ambassador in February of 2012.

Melanie Calhoun ReMax Alliance Calhoun Team

Joining the Chamber has proven to be the best way to get involved in the community. By becoming a member of the Chamber, I have greatly broadened my friendships and business connec1ons. I have met so many wonderful people who live and work in this beau1ful town and I am honored to serve the residents.

As a Chamber Ambassador, Be:y is a part of a professional group of people dedicated to helping others grow their businesses. To her, it’s what life is about - it’s about what she can do for others. Be:y is the head of her own marke1ng company through Reliv Interna1onal. Reliv is a 25 year old food science company, commi:ed to making a difference in people’s lives. We all want to have great health and feel amazing!! Through Reliv’s line of patented nutri1onal supplements that can become a reality! Reliv offers people hope for a be:er quality of life. It’s really Nutri1on Made Simple!! As a re1red nurse, this is another perfect fit for Be:y!

The Castle Rock Chamber has so many dedicated Ambassadors, that being awarded Ambassador of the Year is amazing. I am blessed to have this recogni1on and thank you to the Chamber for this opportunity! When I’m not assis1ng Tom with Real Estate or par1cipa1ng as an Ambassador, "me with family and friends is a priority. When the opportunity arises, I enjoy dancing, playing piano, walking our 3 chihuahuas, hiking and traveling.

Be:y and her husband, Harlan, recently built their ranch and dream home and love having their three grandkids out to the ranch. Thank You Be:y for all you do for the Castle Rock Chamber!

Developing Leaders in Douglas County LEADERSHIP DOUGLAS COUNTY TAKES YOU BEHIND THE SCENES Do you think that you know, all there is to know, about Douglas County? Have you experienced behind-the-scenes tours at some our most protected community resources, with access to some of the most interes1ng people living and working in our county? At Leadership Douglas County (LDC), you have the chance to learn and network at a level you may not have thought possible. Take Wednesday, April 6, for example. The Leadership Douglas County class met at the Douglas County Sheriff’s office, in Castle Rock, to get a first-hand look at public safety, incarcera1on and end of life issues. This was a day that exposed the class to a variety of topics and, for some, many “firsts” to be experienced. The day began with a morning panel discussion that included Douglas County Sheriff’s Office Chief Steve Johnson, Castle Rock Chief Jack Cauley, Parker Police Department’s Jim Tsurapas, and Lone Tree Police Chief Jeff Streeter. The class also toured the Sheriff’s Office, the jail and new expansion that includes a medical unit, as well as a tour of the morgue by Coroner Jill Romann. The County’s S.O.R.T. Team demonstrated a well-executed cell extrac1on of an uncoopera1ve “prisoner,” much to the awe of class members. Later in the day, exci1ng demonstra1ons were given by the K-9 Team and a sniper/officer rescue by the SWAT Team. A hands-on simula1on ac1vity, an1cipa1ng the ac1ons of poten1al criminal behavior, tested the reac1ons and reflexes of each par1cipant as they role-played a variety of situa1ons on a full-scale interac1ve video. Both challenging and fun, was the opportunity for each class member to receive one-on -one firearms training at the shoo1ng range located at the Law Enforcement Training Facility in Highlands Ranch. Some class members had never held or shot a gun before, so this was a new experience. On the first Wednesday of each month, LDC focuses on a different aspect of the county that is vital to a sustainable, vibrant community. A leadership skill component is also a part of each day. Leadership Douglas County is currently accep1ng applica1ons for the 2016-17 class that kicks off with an overnight retreat in September. The applica1on deadline is June 15th, 2016. Space is limited, so please apply now! For more informa1on on LDC or for an applica1on visit www.leadershipdouglascounty.org.

For ques1ons, please contact inCarrie Buchan at fo@leadershipdouglascounty.com or call 720.440.3726. LDC is possible through the support of our generous partners. Patron Sponsors: Castle Rock Chamber of Commerce, BreakThroughs, Inc., the City of Lone Tree, Douglas County Government and Town of Parker; and Program Sponsors: Black Hills Energy, Charles Schwab, Douglas County Libraries, South Metro Fire and Rescue Authority, Town of Castle Rock, IREA and Kaiser Permanente.
