CEO FOCUS with Pam Ridler, President & CEO Chamber Impact Updates Chamber working toward US Chamber of Commerce Accredita on The Castle Rock Chamber is currently in the Accredita on process with the United States Chamber of Commerce. There are over 850 chambers that have par cipated in the program since 1964 with only two other chambers located in the State of Colorado. Craig Chamber of Commerce (Accredited) and Fort Collins Area Chamber of Commerce (5 Stars). The United States Chamber of Commerce Accredita on is the only program of its kind that defines excellence in chamber planning and recognizes chambers for outstanding contribu ons toward posi ve change in their communi es. As part of the accredita on process, the following bylaw changes are needing to be added to our bylaws. Therefore the Board has recommended the bylaw changes highlighted in yellow. View the recommend bylaw changes on our website at: www.CastleRock.org. Bylaw change vo ng will take place on November 9, 2017 at Business Over Breakfast (published as a Special Mee ng) located at MW Golden Constructors located at 1700 North Park Street.
Colorado's job growth con nues to be diversified and manageable; however, it is constrained by the 2.5% unemployment rate. Colorado is on track to add 49,600 jobs this year and there are indica ons that level of job growth may be understated. Na onally, there is plenty of good news. Looking past the hurricanes and saber ra9ling, real GDP growth for Q3 came in at 3.0%. The unemployment rate is 4.2% and 2.1 million jobs will be added this year. For details check out the www.cber.co Review of Colorado Economy - Update for First Nine Months of 2017. This month's review also includes some thoughts about Amazon and the NFL - two topics that have dominated the headlines the past six weeks. View the report at h9p://cber.co/economic-updates/
Chamber urges a No vote on the Mayor At Large ballot ques on The Castle Rock Chamber Board of Directors has taken the posi on to oppose the ci zen-driven ini a ve to change the Town’s Charter to allow for the at-large, town-wide elec on of the office of the mayor. Pam Ridler, President/CEO of the Chamber stated, “although we strongly believe residents and business owners in Castle Rock should have the ability to vote for their elected officials, this ini a ve should have been ve9ed through a process that looks at the consequences of moving from our current form of government and resolve those issues prior to an elec on and the implementa on.”
Take Poli cal Ac on There Are Many Ways to Get Involved! The Chamber’s Government Interests Commi9ee (GIC) provides our business community with a proac ve voice and advocate regarding governmental issues; and promotes economic interests, which contributes to the quality of life of Castle Rock. This program facilitates communica on and educa on between the business community, local, and state governments. A variety of elected officials, concerned members and businesspeople meet to discuss and clarify issues that are affec ng our community today, tomorrow and in the future. Quarterly Horizon Luncheons also offer an opportunity to make connec ons with our community leaders. Each luncheon features guest speakers to help keep you up-to-date on the local community, business hot topics, statewide informa on and much more.
Contact Pam@CastleRock.org for more informa on.
Our concerns: • Creates an unfair balance of representa on from our current districts, which would allow a single district to have a greater voice with two representa ves. • Increased cost of conduc ng a town-wide campaign which could allow for money to be solicited from outside organiza ons or special interest groups to Castle Rock affec ng policy and procedures. • The Mayor at Large elec on could be a step to change our current form of professionally managed day-to-day opera ons to a “Strong Mayor” system which creates a poli cally managed system. The Chamber’s Board of Directors and Government Interest Commi:ee would urge a No vote on the Mayor At Large ballot ques on and encourage the crea on of a local Charter Taskforce to inves gate and recommend to Town Council a plan for future ac on. 2

Douglas County Open Space Natural Resources Specialist Jackie Sanderson and Shaun Boyd, Douglas County Libraries Historian, hosted the day long class and served as tour guides as the class traversed the southern por on of the county in a Douglas County jail bus! Stops included the Outdoor EdVentures at Stone Canyon and the privately held Prairie Canyon Ranch, where pastures have had ca9le almost con nuously since Frederick Bartruff, a German immigrant, created a homestead in the early 1860s. Douglas County invites the public to visit the Ranch once a year, in August, or the Ranch may be visited by appointment.
