DOWNTOWN CASTLE ROCK

SPONSORED BY: CASTLEROCKSTARLIGHTING.COM

STAR-GAZING, A COMMUNITY TRADITION CONTINUES It is unlikely that many towns can boast of such a long-standing tradition. The Castle Rock Starlighting has been a community event its residents have had in common for eighty two years - one that makes us a little friendlier and more special than the next town. In 1936, a group of civic leaders built a 40 foot star using donated materials. The Star was erected as a symbol welcoming residents and travelers alike to Castle Rock. The Star has played an important part in the lives of generations of townspeople, from the bombing of Pearl Harbor to the Denver Broncos Super Bowl championships to 9-11. As you can imagine, it takes an army of volunteers to put on such an event, get involved, show your community pride & volunteer!

LETTER FROM OUR CEO—PAM RIDLER, CCE

BIG WIN FOR CASTLE ROCK

We celebrated an exciting evening for Castle Rock at the Economic Development Council of Colorado with the 2018 EDIE awards recognizing economic development excellence. We won Large Community of the Year demonstrating our strong commitment to economic development through vision and execution. Castle Rock has fostered two $60 million mixed use projects in Downtown with the Riverwalk, as well as partnering on the Promenade at Castle Rock project adding 1 million sq. ft. of retail and $300 million investment, which has become one of the top 5 retail projects in the US. In addition, the Town of Castle Rock has invested $3 million of economic development funds into the partnership with Arapahoe Community College, Colorado State University and Douglas County School District to creating the 100,000 sq. ft. creating the Castle Rock Collaboration Campus in The Meadows. Also awarded, was the partnership Award to Castle Rock Collaboration Campus. This award recognizes the work which is creating the $45 million educational campus which will open in the fall of 2019 and will be capable of enrollment up to 1,500 students. This campus will deliver 21st Century education in a completely seamless process to the student by offering concurrent enrollment options that can deliver a 4-year path from Douglas County High School through Arapahoe Community College and Colorado State University at 1/3 of the tuition cost for families. Additionally, the partnership incudes Innosphere, Arapahoe Douglas Workforce Development and 3D Printing Lab. This partnership is a shining example of how collaborative economic development can work to build educational and workforce infrastructure for Castle Rock.

Also, congrats go to Frank Gray, president/CEO of the EDC who received recognition for the Economic Development Achievement Award for his work in Castle Rock the last 10 years. Frank has been instrumental in the above local projects including the 65-acre missed use development project, Miller’s Landing which is cleaning up the Town’s old dump site and is a focus of future development projects.

Partnership Award to Castle Rock Collaboration Campus

These awards are in celebration of the endless hours of working together as the Castle Rock Economic Partnership (CREP) which proactively fosters economic vitality for the business community and residents’ future. CREP is the planning group that focuses on quality development practices. The organizations represented are Town of Castle Rock, EDC, Downtown Alliance and the Chamber.

Large Community of the Year

Work well done all— It’s time to celebrate and continue to push our boat forward. To learn more or to get involved, please contact me at Pam@castlerock.org.
