The Cathedral School Discover The Cathedral School for your children. Centrally located in Townsville Australia, the school campus is 24 acres of serene, peaceful gardens shaded by towering rain trees. At its heart lies a natural lagoon teeming with wildlife (a favourite spot for our school fishing club). The school offers a co-educational program from Prep to Year 12 that is unsurpassed by the better-known metropolitan schools. Students achieve top academic outcomes and enjoy modern learning and living facilities. Extensive on-campus sporting and social development programs provide students with an environment in which to grow and flourish.

The Cathedral School offers boarding from Year 7 to Year 12. Boarding is a unique opportunity to live within and contribute to a strong community and provides an opportunity for the development of character, self-discipline, leadership, and initiative. Children who come prepared to grasp the many and varied opportunities that boarding life offers, thoroughly enjoy the experience, and nurture a network of student peers from Australia and around the world for personal and professional fulfillment.

Study Abroad Program

E NT RY RE QUIRE ME NT 1.

Students must be learning English at school

Study Abroad is open to international students in Years 7 to Year 11. The program offers students school enrolment and accommodation in the school’s on campus boarding dormitory.

Students must demonstrate a beginner level of English

Students must demonstrate exemplary behaviour and be passing all subjects on their most recent school reports.

Students participate in mainstream classes and are included in the complete educational program.

OUT DOOR E DUCAT ION At Cathedral we extend our learning outside of the classroom and place great emphasis on development of character, courage, confidence, and resilience.

Our Study Abroad Program provides a cultural and language immersion experience. Students are expected to give their best efforts towards the academic program and uphold the rules and expectations placed upon all students enrolled at The Cathedral School. Students are supported to realise their academic potential and may elect to participate in formal assessment.

Our Study Abroad Program includes compulsory participation in outdoor education in Years 7 to Year 11*. *Only applies when Study Abroad Program coincides with the timing of scheduled school camps.

Students enrolled for one semester or one year will receive a School Report, while students who attend for a term will receive a Certificate of Participation at the conclusion of the program.

Boarding The Cathedral School offers modern and homely boarding facilities with separate dormitories for girls and boys. The picturesque school grounds centre on a natural lagoon home to a variety of birdlife. The grounds are adorned by lush gardens and 160 year old towering raintrees. Together with our extensive sporting facilities The Cathedral School offers our boarders opportunity to play and unwind in serene, spacious and safe surrounds.

Girls Boarding courtyard garden.

In the girls dormitory, students are accommodated across three boarding “wings” adjoining a beautiful and secured courtyard garden. Girls in Years 7 to Year 10 stay in well appointed quad or dual share rooms, while seniors stay in single rooms equipped with a study desk, wardrobe and vanity. Boys are accommodated in a dormitory of their own located away from the girls, with an adjacent basketball hoop and central games room including a dartboard, pool table and table tennis. Boys in Years 7 to Year 9 share in a quad configuration that is well designed to provide a balance of privacy and visibility. From Year 10, boys enjoy their own private bedrooms including a large study desk and grooming sink.


Boarding Activities Boarders participate in a range of co-curricular activities outside of school hours including attending cultural, social and sporting events. A weekly schedule of activities to which transport is provided enables students to enjoy independence within a safe and supervised school arranged activity.

Cheer on the North Queensland Cowboys from the Queensland Country Bank Stadium.

Take the ferry to Magnetic Island for a BBQ lunch, ocean swim or kayak.

Hike in the Magnetic Island National Park to the fascinating historic WWII fortifications.

Spot Koalas on Magnetic Island’s Forts Walk.

Enjoy an ice cream at The Strand.

Relax at The Strand Waterpark.

Walk up Castle Hill to take in a spectacular view of the city.

Watch an outdoor movie under the stars at Riverway.

Chill out at the Warrina Ice Skating Rink.

Browse through The Strand night markets.

Have an adrenaline rush at the Townsville Barra Fun Park.

Catch a Barramundi at the Townsville Barra Fun Park.

Visit the Billabong Sanctuary and meet some of our native wildlife.

Explore the heritage rainforest’s local to the region.

Townsville Time Zone Townsville weather is warm all year round. Crystal blue skies and sunny days with daily temperatures in the cooler months ranging from 14°C to 24°C, and in the warmer months temperatures range between 25°C to 32°C.
