Dora and Rina Castillo Catholic Charities Clients

Dora Castillo was struggling to make ends meet in 2002 when she reached out to Catholic Charities seeking housing support assistance so she and her young daughter, Rina, could stay in their apartment. The help and services she received kept the two together and safely housed. A number of years later, Dora again sought guidance from Catholic Charities – this time with our Refugee and Immigrant Services for the renewal of her Temporary Protected Status (TPS). It was important to Dora that she maintain her TPS status so Rina could pursue her dream of going to college. Fast forward, and Rina is now a graduate of UC Santa Cruz starting a new job at Catholic Charities!

Adriana Fernandez Catholic Charities Client

Adriana Fernandez’s family left Mexico when she was three years old and settled in San Mateo. Despite the danger to her family of deportation, Adriana’s mother encouraged her to seek Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA). With the help of our Catholic Charities Refugee and Immigrant Services in San Mateo, Adriana applied for and was granted DACA status. She is a graduate of UC Davis with a degree in Environmental Science and Management and works for the Peninsula Conflict Resolution Center in partnership with the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office Community Alliance to Revitalize Our Neighborhood (CARON) Program. She is an active advocate for social justice.

Mixed Choral Ensemble, Convent and Stuart Hall High School Performers

Convent & Stuart Hall is an independent K-12 preparatory school in San Francisco rooted in the Sacred Heart tradition of Catholic education within a uniquely single-sex and coeducational environment. Convent & Stuart Hall educates mind, heart, and body, animating a zeal for discovery, inspiring a passion for justice, and nurturing the strength to transform. Fostering creativity and fluency in the arts is an essential component of the curriculum. During elementary and middle school, students have an opportunity to play instruments, learn to read music, employ music terminology, comprehend theory, and play diverse styles from classical to world music. At the high school, students may participate in a co-ed Instrumental combo classes, as well as theater and musical theater along with vocal programs ranging from traditional chamber choir to classical and contemporary a cappella.

San Domenico High School

Reception Performers - The Virtuoso Quartet San Domenico is the only upper school in the nation that offers an integrated and intensive music program to students who are exploring their potential as string musicians, combined with college preparatory academics, that prepares students for award winning musical careers. Students consistently matriculate to – and receive partial to full merit scholarships from – the best-rated colleges and conservatories in the nation, a testament to the particular combination of instruction and experience they receive in the Virtuoso Program. The students performing tonight are: Luci Paczkowski and Aidan Kim, violins; Lavendar Yang, viola; and Eden Llodra, cello.

Art Show Peter Claver Community Art Patchwork is a stunning exhibit of art created by the residents of Catholic Charities Peter Claver Community, a comprehensive on-site residential care facility for chronically homeless individuals living with disabling HIV/AIDS. Opened in 1985, the program was one of the first in the Bay Area to compassionately serve those sick and dying from HIV/AIDS. The art program at Peter Claver enriches our clients through active art creation and self-expression which fosters self-esteem, self-awareness, and promotes insight and resilience. Each piece on display this evening exudes individualism while connecting to and representing the Peter Calver Community and its family-like setting.

Calligraphy As calligraphy is often considered the closest way one can hear music with one’s eyes, it is fitting that during our evening of hope and uplifting music, we have five original pieces created by Fr. Franklin Fong, OFM for your viewing pleasure and purchase. Fr. Fong is a calligrapher, scientist, and ordained Franciscan friar who currently serves as the Pastor of St. Boniface Church in San Francisco’s Tenderloin District. For Fr. Fong, calligraphy is a form of loving and meditative prayer. He made these pieces of calligraphy art as a donation to support the work of Catholic Charities through their sale to our guests at the 2018 Loaves & Fishes Dinner and Gala.

Aging Support Services

Refugee and Immigrant Services

Our priority is to help seniors maintain their independence and dignity while making valuable connections through companionship and friendship. Our programs promote economical, comprehensive, alternative solutions to residential facilities or in-home care while providing respite to caregivers.

Our mission is to assist clients in achieving not just legal status and economic self-sufficiency, but to help them become fully active participants in the social and civic life of our communities. Our program is designed to advise and guide clients through the immigration process and to help immigrants know their rights under the law. Programs serve San Francisco, Marin, and San Mateo counties.
