Acupuncture Therapy

Preface A Strategy from Chinese Medicine

Art Intervention In Public Space of Nanting Village Perception and Intervention (landscape Intervention), 2nd Year Location:Nanting Village,Guangzhou,China Instructor: Gary Wang Type: Individual

With continuous development of the Nanting village, houses-for-rent are built at an unusual high speed. Lack of the awareness of losing communication, the villiagers are sacrifising their public space for more income. In Chinese Medicine, certain points in human body identified to link with certain illness would be acupunctured in order to make the inner system expedite. So the same principle can be applied to the villiage. The project is aiming at rebuilding and activating public space in abandoned area through a small range of transformation that ables a point to have an radius effect to the whole village.

Experience and Landscape Construction, 3rd Year Location:Pearl River Park,Guangzhou,China Instructor: Zailong Zhu Type: Individual

Learn from the tradition Minimized the nature The traditional Chinese garden represented the ideal world of the acient upper grade people which also contains the faith of the owner. Their way to make a garden in their villa are to imitate the form of the nature such as artificial streams, waterfall, pond, and fake hills. Creating a landscape is a work of interest in the owner's eyes. They try to convey their own attitudes toward the nature and their personal philosophy of life through the arrangement of the route to travel around the garden by creating various kinds of experience to the visitors in such limited space. The project is trying to follow the pattern of creating mini nature but in a more modern way, in order to create a leisure experience to the visitors living in such crowed city. 08

The Yuehui Garden

The Yuehui Garden

Main scene of Yuehui Garden

The Yuehui Garden is a work of typical example of traditional garden constructed in modern technology. The garden is rather open than others with several well-arranged secondary scenery. The Pearl River Park locates right next to the new axis of downtown Guangzhou surrounded by high-rised apartments and buisness offices. The visitors of the park are mainly resident of the surrounding region. Like the Central Park of Manhattan, the Pearl River Park become a central greenery that serves around the CBD. Its significance rises with the development of the new axis.

Discussion of the form Formation of the Garden

The tea room locates at the southwest of the park which faced the tributary of the Pearl River with hills at the southeast. Thus, the tea room was lifted to have better view to the river and to have more privacy.

From Macro to Micro

Accroding to the site, three directions of the building should apply to the tea room. Several kinds of topography in South China are extracted and overlaid to the site by layers.

The concept Garden Inside a Garden contains a philosophy of expressing the whole scenery through small scale of landscape. Interesting boundaries and relationship accured between the whole and the individual.

Extraction and Adjustment of the Shapes Different forms of water are the theme of the tea room. The stream runs along from the hill create a scenery for the upper side of the tea room. The oval waterfall at the front plays the main scene to the plaza while the top of the fall is a tranquil lake when looking out from the tea room. The viewing platform and the water at the middle become a transition between private and public, quiet and loud. The rugged topography of the plaza presents special experience when wandering among the palm trees, which could also be a place of fun to the children. Transformation of the shape

Transformations of the shape after extraction will be classified and applied to different function.

Dumped tea leaves after ferment and special treatment can be a very good fertilizer to the plants that are suitable to alkaline soil. There comes the sustainable reationship between the tea room and the garden

Water Recyle of the Garden

As the constant rain in the summer of Guangzhou, rainwater is an abundant resources in the sustainability of the garden by being collected from the roof of the tea room. It can be used in toilet flushing, irrigation of teh garden, and a part of the water source of the artificial waterfall. The stream water links to other streams and lakes of the park, and can be used as drinking water for the tea room after purification. The production of dumped tea water could also be part of the water source of the waterfall after simple procedure of purification. 12

Guangdong Province Greenway System Investigation and Renovation, 3rd year Location: Conghua,Guangdong,China Instructor: Weiguang Wu, Hongyan Chen Colaborate with: Weifeng Huang, Xiangying Li

The Power of Intergration A strategy of synergic development The project is about dealing with the relationship between natural landscape and the local villages. Greenway is a newly built project in the planning of Guangdong Province. However, there are a few sections of the greenway do not have a good interaction with the local environment, which are only pathways instead of a link between nature, local people and visitors. The project is to create connections to all natural resources, intergrating them into a travel system. So as to excavate the protential value of countryside travel and the revive the old villages.

Conghua Greenway Rennovation Natural and Historical Section Pathway Crosses the farmland and wetland

The Hexagon Pathway The stability of hexagon and the multiple direction of paths that it creates is the reason to use this form.

Single Unit

20

Combination

The pathway built on stilts helps shorten the distance between visitors and nature and avoids destruction. It allows visitors on greenway make contact with the local people. What's more, it is able to expand the playground of the local students.

Conghua Greenway Rennovation Sports Theme Section Multiple Sports Area The rennovation of the sports area is extended from the center of the West Lake Sport Station. The original sports equippment are pretty dull. After the rennovation, larger space for activity is arranged along the greenway including extreme sports area and jogging track.

Extreme Sports Area Constant slope is built based on the original sports field, with less change to the environment to construct a playground for fun.
