2018 Canadian National Show & Sale Consignor Profiles Beldon Bison Ranch

Bison Spirit Ranch

Donally Livestock

Beldon Bison Ranch has been raising and showing top quality bison since 1987. With bloodlines from some of the top ranches in western Canada we are proud to be raising a diverse range of breeding stock. We have had great success over the past few years at the Canadian Bison Bull Draft with bulls placing in the top 5 for the past three years. The bulls presented here at Agribition have been on the same feed and care program as has been used for the Canadian Bison Bull Draft. We would like to thank past buyers and are looking forward to forging relationships with new buyers. Give Nathan a call at 306-812-7092 if you have any questions or would like to stop by, our door is always open to visitors.

Bison Spirit Ranch is owned and operated by Trevor & Jodi Gompf of Oak Lake, MB. We currently run 4 different breeding herds consisting of plains, wood and plains/wood cross genetics. We are very fortunate to have the bull power we have and when crossed into our performancetested females the resulting offspring do very well. We believe that in order to have great genetics a ranch should set up a program where they are consistently seeing positive results. Culling sub-par animals or adding new bulls/females is essential to a successful operation. This strict program has proven itself at Bison Spirit Ranch allowing us to consistently place at the provincial, national, and international level. In addition, we are proud to have earned 1st place at the Canadian Bison Bull Draft 3 out of the 4 yrs it was held. To us this means a lot to us as it is about performance and not just looks Be sure to check out the Bison Spirit Ranch page on Facebook or stop by for a tour.

Donally Livestock was started in 1997 with a bison heifer calf from my Dad, Bill Bouffioux. I have built this little herd over the past 21 years by using the same XY Bison Ranch bulls. I have managed to keep the best heifers back, buy a few, sell a few and show a few. I enjoy the challenges that can arrise at any given moment with raising bison.

Big Country Bison

Borderland Agriculture

Flying I Bison

Our bison herd was started in 1996 with the purchase of 10 heifer calves from the Schwitzers. The herd has now grown to over 245 females in 4 separate herds. We are continually improving the quality of our herd by making select purchases of top quality breeding stock and meticulously selecting females out of our own herd. We are both proud and excited to be involved in the bison industry and see a very bright future for this industry in the upcoming years.

Borderland Agriculture is proud to be a 5th generation family farm located in southwest Manitoba. Our name represents the boundaries of our farmland with the southern edge resting on the US border and the western side creeping into Saskatchewan. We have progressively integrated bison into our operation since 1999 and have been proud to bring many premium animals to the Canadian National Show as well as the Great Spirit Show and Sale. We focus on regenerative agriculture by integrating our bison with cover crops; improving our soil health, crops, and bison herd health. Our ultimate goal is to #graze365. We recently were honored as being named Manitoba’s Outstanding Young Farmers for 2018 and we will be representing the bison industry at the national event in November 2018. Discover our world at facebook.com/ borderlandagriculture.

Our ranch was started in 1996 with the purchase of 25 bred pure plains cows. Our first 2 herd sires were purchased from Tatonka Ranch, also in 1996. Our bulls over the years have come from Silver Creek, Irish Creek, Orvall Enge, Sundance Buffalo, Joe Orcheski and Wilson River Bison. Currently our bull battery consists of a Woods X bull and his ranch raised son, A pure plains bull from Wolverine Bison that placed 4th in the 2015 Canadian Bison Bull Draft, a pure plains bison from the 2018 Canadian Bison Bull Draft from Jumpoff Buffalo Ranch and an up and coming pure Plains bull from Rocky Meadow Bison. They cover our herd of about 100 cows and heifers. Our herd is grass fed with free choice hay once the snow flies. They are also provided mineral tubs year round. Check us out on Facebook at Flying I Bison Ranch.

2018 Canadian National Show & Sale Consignor Profiles Irish Creek Bison

Roaming K Bison

Rough Bark Bison

Irish Creek Bison Ranch has been raising quality stock since 1992. The ranch has grown to have 3 specific herds: Wood, Plains and Wood X. Irish Creek Bison has continued to emphasize the importance of genetics as excellent bloodlines still run strong. (I.E. Bothwell, Ace, Hanging Ice & Durham Ranch). Our ranch aims to raise a long, wide quality animal that will stand out from the rest and perform well.

Roaming K Bison was started in 2000 on our family farm Southwest of Foam Lake Sk. Being a straight grain farm we decided to add something new. Starting with 25 animals we thought it would be a small fun addition. Having only one son that loved the farm from a very young age we knew he would want to get involved. Keegan bought his first animal at the age of 12 and it quickly grew from there with his passion for the animals and his drive for success. Currently our growing operation consists of 3000 acres of Ag land and over 600 animals. We’re breeding 240 cows in 5 different herds. For many years we based solidly around the meat market back grounding animals for the highest bidder and now have got into finishing our own animals for the growing demand. We’ve also started an extensive breeding program with top genetics from western Canada to bring better productivity to our own herds and hopefully fellow producers as well! If your ever in the area please stop by we’re always happy to have guests!

Rough Bark Bison Company was established in 1999, and is owned and operated by Rob and Robyn Byrns. We are located near the town of Yellow Grass, Saskatchewan, where we live and raise our family. This family operated business is focused on raising quality breeding stock and finishing feeders for market. The breeding herd of 155 cows and 12 bulls is predominantly Wood X, with many of them being purchased at provincial and national show and sales, as well as retaining our best ranch raised replacements. Our family looks forward to our future in the bison industry.

Prairieland Bison

Rocky Meadow Bison

Prairieland Bison is owned and operated by Cole & Shelby Haubrich of Hodgeville, SK. We are a cow/ calf operation and we have been raising bison since 2011. We currently run 2 herds, one consisting of 100 Wood x cows and the other of 20 pure Wood females. We recently, over the last few years have been purchasing bulls from top producers at provincial and National shows & sales to improve our breeding genetics in our herds. We select our top females to keep as replacement heifers. We are proud bison producers and are committed to improving the industry. We are pleased to have the opportunity to participate in the CNSS again this year!

Rocky Meadow Bison is a relatively small cow/calf operation that celebrated its 15 year anniversary in 2018. With time and fine tuning, the herd has evolved into a very uniform group of 70 extremely docile, thick, productive plains females. A good portion of the current cow herd consists of our own home raised replacement females that were meticulously selected for conformation and along with consideration for their dam’s productive history. I am a big believer in paying close attention to herd and pasture management and I am very pleased with the results of those efforts. This is my first time entering into the yearling bull class and I know that the competition in this class is always extremely tough, but I’m just proud to show off my production and see how close I can compare to the top producers. This pure plains yearling may not be the heaviest in his class but I am confident that his conformation and exceptional depth throughout and muscling would compliment a pure plains or a cross breeding program. Raising bison is my passion! And as always, I am very excited to attend the convention and participate in the CNSS!

Amanda Schwitzer Tatonka Ranch is based out of Melville, Sk- a 3rd generation ranch. Not only do we have old and new blood in the operators of the ranch but in our stock as well. We strive to raise and pride ourselves on quality breeding stock and are excited to see our genetics and the bison industry flourish.

2018 Canadian National Show & Sale Consignor Profiles Silver Creek Bison Ranch

Tatonka Ranch

XY Bison Ranch

Silver Creek Bison first purchased bison in 1988 and currently run 1800 head. We run a cow/calf through to finishing program and keep close records throughout to select for our breeding program. Over the years we have moved the majority of the breeding to Wood X bulls on the Wood X cows to improve conformation, carcass yield, and other carcass traits. We run a herd of pure Wood and a herd of pure Plains to supply seedstock to other producers. If you are in our area please stop in, we would be glad to show you around.

Tatonka Ranch is owned and operated by Trent Schwitzer of Melville, SK and has been in operation since 1987. That first year, the herd capacity reached fifteen yearlings, purchased from ranches in both Alberta & Saskatchewan. In 1992 I purchased 100 yearlings from Loiselle Ranch in Dawson Creek and along the way acquired animals at auction sales as well as many breeding bull purchases, we have grown to a herd size of 250 cows. I am honoured to have been named Premier Breeder at the Canadian National Show & Sale in 1996, 1997 and again in 2008. If your ever in the area, please stop by as we’re always happy to have a visit!

XY Bison Ranch is located along the Peace River near Fort St. John BC. The cow herd consists of mainly dark females was started 29 years ago with plains heifers originating from the Merv Stagg herd. The breeding herd has been carefully selected for self reliancnce, consistent calving with the meat animals producing high yeilding carcasses. Our bull battery includes: 3 Irish Creek Wood X, Taylor1/2 Wood, and 2 Wood X from Beldon Bison.

Shale Creek Bison Ranch

Torch River Bison

Shale Creek Bison Ranch is located just outside of Russell, MB and is owned and operated by Jamie & Debbie and our 2 daughters Danielle & Tara. Our herd is 80% breeding stock which was selected from shows and sales across Canada. We have been very successful at many show & sales and very proud of what we have accomplished. We were very successful in 2010 with our animals being awarded the Grand Champion Male, Female and Reserve Champion Female at the Great Spirit Show & Sale in Brandon MB. At the 2012 CNSS in Regina SK, our yearling heifers won Gold & Silver trophies with our Gold heifer being awarded Grand Champion Female. In 2015 we went to the NBA Gold Trophy show in Denver, CO for our first time. The yearling heifer we took won Gold. Also at the 2015 Great Spirit sale we won the Yearling Heifer class as well as Grand Champion Yearling Heifer. The largest honour yet for our ranch has been chosen as the Bill Lenton award winner for at the 2017 MBA Convention. We welcome anyone to come and visit our ranch so we can show you our animals.

Torch River Bison began in 2000 with the purchase of 50 Durham heifers and at present runs roughly 200 cows in 3 groups consisting of the original bloodlines and many top additions over the years. The bulls are all from top ranches that help produce an early finishing animal. I have been fortunate enough to win awards at the Canadian National Show & Sale, Great Spirit Show & Sale, SBA Premium Show & Sale, and the Canadian Bison Bull Draft. Please feel free to ask any questions you have about the animals in the show.
