BELDON BISON RANCH

BISON SPIRIT RANCH

The Scott Family Nipawin, SK PH: 306-862-4931

Trevor & Jodie Gompf Oak Lake , MB PH: 204-855-2707

Celebrating 30 years and located near Nipawin, SK Beldon Bison Ranch is owned and operated by Don, Paulette and their son Nathan along with his wife Amanda Scott. Don and Paulette started it all in 1987 with just 160 acres, 10 bred cows, a breeding bull and the lofty goal of becoming full time ranchers and creating a sustainable operation to be passed on to the next generation. Beldon Bison Ranch has been the proud host of the Canadian Bison Bull Draft for the past 4 years and proud to have had the heaviest and highest selling bull at the 2017 sale. Don has been honoured to judge at multiple show and sales across North America. Nathan is honoured to be invited back for a second year of judging at The Gold Trophy Show and Sale. Nathan and Amanda’s boys, Leyton, Jaxen and Deon love to help on the ranch whenever possible and play “ranch” in the living room on the other days! Nathan’s sister, Penny, recently returned to the ranch and is the proud owner of a herd of her own. Thank you to all past and future buyers of our quality breeding stock.

Bison Spirit Ranch is owned and operated by Trevor and Jodie Gompf of Oak Lake, MB. This year we ran 4 different breeding herds consisting of plains, woods, and woods/plains cross genetics. We are very fortunate to have the bull power we have and when crossed onto our performance tested females the resulting offspring do very well. We believe that in order to have great genetics a ranch should set up a program where they are consistently seeing positive results. Culling sub-par animals or adding new bulls/females in is essential to a successful operation. This strict program has proven itself at Bison Spirit Ranch allowing us to consistently place at the provincial, national and international level. In addition, we are proud to have placed in the top 5 at the Canadian Bison Bull Draft (2015 - 2nd, 2016 - 1st and 5th). Be sure to check out the Bison Spirit Ranch Page on Facebook or stop by for a tour.

TORCH RIVER BISON

Jamie ,Debbie, Danielle & Tara Moran Russell, MB PH: 204-773-2674

Greg Pagan Snowden, SK PH: 306-428-2321

Shale Creek Bison Ranch is located just outside of Russell, Manitoba and is owned and managed by Jamie and Debbie and our two daughters Danielle and Tara. Our herd is 80% breeding stock which was selected from shows and sales across Canada. We have been very successful at many shows and sales and are very proud of what we have accomplished. We were very successful in 2010 with our animals being awarded the Grand Champion Male, Female, and Reserved Champion Female at the Great Spirit Show and Sale that is in Brandon, Manitoba. At the 2012 Canadian National Show and Sale in Regina, Saskatchewan, our yearling heifers won Gold and Silver trophies and our Gold Trophy heifer went on to win the Grand Champion Female. In 2015 we went to the National Bison Association Gold Trophy Show in Denver, Colorado for our first time. We took a yearling heifer and she won Gold. Also in 2015 at the Great Spirit Show and Sale in Brandon, Manitoba, we won the Yearling Heifer Class, as well as the Grand Champion Yearling Heifer. The largest honour yet was to be chosen as the recipient of the Bill Lenton award at the 2017 MBA Convention. We welcome anyone to come and visit our ranch so we can show you our animals.

Torch River Bison began in 2000 with the purchase of 50 Durham heifers & at present runs about 200 cows in 3 groups consisting of the original bloodlines and many top additions over the years. The breeding bulls are all from top ranches that help produce an early finishing animal. I have been fortunate enough to win awards at Canadian National Show and Sale, Great Spirit Show and Sale, SBA Premium Show and Sale and the Canadian Bison Bull Draft. The 2 year old bull on offer is from a Durham background on the dam side and Willow Hollow (Silver Creek) on the sire side. Please feel free to ask any other questions you have about this animal.

SILVER CREEK BISON Nolan & Nicole Miller (The Miller Family) Binscarth, MB PH: 204-532-2174 Silver Creek Bison first purchased bison in 1988 and currently run 1800 head. We run a cow calf through to finishing program and keep close records throughout to select for our breeding program. Over the years we have moved the majority of the breeding to Wood X bulls on Wood X cows to improve conformation, carcass yield and other carcass traits. We run a herd of pure Wood and a herd of pure Plains to supply seed stock to other producers. If you are in our area please stop in; we would be glad to show you around.

XY Bison Ranch operated by Bill & Fay Bouffioux with daughters Cyndy, Sandy & their families is located along the Peace River near Fort St. John, BC. The cow herd (mainly dark) was started 27 years ago with Plains heifers originating from the Merv Stagg herd. The breeding herd has been carefully selected for self reliance, consistent calving with the meat animals producing high yielding carcasses. The bull battery includes: Briggs-1/2 Wood, Dorey-1/2 Woods, Davy-100% Woods, Taylor-1/2 Woods, Elk Valley-1/2 Woods Patterson100%Woods. We are proud of our outstanding herd and truly appreciate the many repeat buyers and the champions we have raised.

Traceability- Premise Registration Traceability is becoming ever increasingly demanded by domestic and global customers. The Canadian Bison Association has historically been leaders in traceability. For many years the industry has required animal identification with specific approved tags. Initially with bar coded dangles then progression to RFID. Full Traceability is comprised of three pillars, animal identification, premise registration and recording animal movement. As such the CBA’s focus is to assist producers in moving towards full traceability by providing information on registering their premise. Premise registration is governed by the provinces and territories as deemed by the federal government. Several provinces such as Alberta, Ontario and Manitoba require mandatory registration. The remaining province and territories at this time are requesting on a voluntary basis. Regardless of area there is no fee for registering a premise and the information is kept confidential. Both the CBA and the provinces and territories will provide support to producers in registering their premise.
