JOELLE MUNDT Hi, My name is Joelle Mundt and this is my first year in 4-H! Ever since I was young I loved going to the farm to help my Dad with the cattle. Since joining I have learned a lot about cattle and the nutritional aspects of feeding. My market steer, Rupert, is my fun-loving buddy that I have enjoyed spending time with. He is a Black Angus/ Simmental cross and as of May 2 weighed 1295 lbs. He is a lean , well muscled steer and is starting to fill out in all the right places. Coming from a consistently high quality beef farm, he is sure to satisfy you and your families cravings for good meat. I am excited to, hopefully, have a show this year and anticipate seeing you online on June 12!

Even though our year has looked a little different due to Covid I still learnt a lot of things. In February I took Micheal Scott (that is my steers name) to the Oyen Beef Expo, we had lots of fun and learned new things. It was also good for my steer to get out and about. My steer is a Hereford/Charolais cross. When I was choosing a steer he just kept popping out amongst all the calves. I’ve really enjoyed my 1st year so far; I miss getting together in person with our 4-H families. I hope you can join us for our online sale on June 12, 2021 @ 7pm.

HANNAH WAGSTAFF This year I am the president of the East Sounding Creek 4-H Beef Club. I have been in the club for 7 years and this is my second year being a senior member. This year I have done 3 projects: herd, carcass and show steer. I really enjoy going to shows and showing both my heifers and steers but lately due to COVID that has been restricted. My favorite part of 4-H is grooming and fitting the calves for the show ring! This year my show steer is a full brother to my steer from two years ago that took me to the champion round in the district. When this calf was born I knew he would be my market steer project. He had everything I look for in a calf; lots of hair, neat colors and his parents both had great conformation. He has put pounds on nicely and loves to be shown. Make sure to check him out on DLMS on June 12 @ 7pm.
HAYLEE WAGSTAFF My name is Haylee Wagstaff and this is my 5th year in East Sounding Creek 4-H Beef Club. My steer came off my cow named Oreo. She is a Speckled Park. Torque’s sire is one of my Dad’s Charolais herd bulls. He has performed very well through the year and has been an easy steer to work with. When I glanced at him I knew he was going to be my show steer. He has great length of body, that will result in great cuts of meat. I liked everything about him. In 4-H I also participate in the female & carcass projects. I have started my own pure bred Charolais herd. My Carcass steer is a Black Angus cross. I joined 4-H because I get to meet new people, expand my 4-H herd and get to show my market steer at Achievement Day. My market steer (Torque) will provide your family with delicious meals. Thank you to all our supporters and special Thank You to Ryan & Simone Hagens and Oyen Optometry for purchasing my 2020 Market Steer.
OLIVIA WAGSTAFF Hi, my name is Olivia Wagstaff and I have been in 4-H for 3 years. I participate in female, carcass and market steer projects. Ranchy is a Blue Roan Shorthorn/Black Angus cross. He has always been fun to play around with, easy to work with and I can even hop on and ride him! He gained consistently through the year and is hormone free. Ranchy is home raised from my cow Izzabella and a black-white faced herd bull that my sisters and I bought from Harvie Ranches. He checked all the boxes when choosing my show steer and made the final round at the Oyen Beef Expo in February. I just love being in 4-H because I have learned lots about how to work as a team. I love being on a team with such a nice group of friends. Special Thanks to the Thornton family for purchasing my 2020 Market Steer!

EMMA WESTERLUND My name is Emma and this is my 5th year in 4-H, first year as an Intermediate. My steer is a Hereford/Angus cross that I picked out of my parents herd. He has never had any added hormones and has never had a sick day in his life so no need for any antibiotics! I project that he will weigh 1350lbs come sale day. The past two years my steers were a part of the freezer pack program which means they were enjoyed by many people. A highlight over this past year was being able to show my steer at the Beef Expo in Oyen this past February!
DOUGLAS WESTERLUND My name is Douglas and I’m a second year Junior member. My steers name is Benson, he is Hereford/Simmental/Shorthorn cross and by sale day will weigh close to 1500lbs. I picked him out of my parents herd because he’s well built, quiet and I liked his markings. Benson has been an easy keeper, he always eats his ration and grows well. He has never had any added hormones and never needed any antibiotics. A fun thing I got to do with my calf this year was to show him at the Beef Expo in Oyen this past winter. I would like to thank Craig Wiechnik and Westerlund Ranches for purchasing my steer last year.
DANICA WOODS My name is Danica Woods. This is my 3rd year in 4-H and I love it! My projects this year include a market steer, female projects and carcass project. Meet my market steer, Ivan. He is a Black Simmental calf with a long, deep frame and correct stature. Ivan is a big boy weighing in at 1547lbs the beginning of May. But, don’t let his weight scare you, his frame holds every pound just right! Ivan is easy to work with, the official boss of the steer pen and comes from excellent beef genetics. Thank you to Tyler Masich for purchasing my steer last year!

DYLAN WOODS My name is Dylan Woods, I am 11 years old and this is my Market Steer Rufus! Rufus is a well built Red Simmental steer. He is stout and deep with a nice solid frame. As a young calf Rufus caught my eye in the pasture as a curly haired bullish calf who has had a brisket since he was born! Rufus weighed in at 1270lbs on May 2nd and I project he will finish at 1400lbs come sale day. I have enjoyed extra time on 4-H this year and have learned a lot about nutrition, grooming and haltering, and was able to attend the Beef Expo in Oyen in February. Thank you to Bud’s EI Services and Lonesome View Farms for purchasing my steer last year!

Over the years our club has been involved in Market Beef, Carcass, Female, Cleaver, Swine, Sheep, Outdoor Adventure, Sewing, Cooking and Photography projects. This year our club consists of 19 members. We have 8 Market Steers, 5 Carcass Steers, 10 Female Projects, 5 Cleaver Projects and 2 Swine Projects. Despite the obstacles put forth this year our members have worked hard to provide high quality beef and swine for our 2021 Show and Sale.
WILLIAM BENEDICT My name is William Benedict and this is my first year in beef 4-H with the Hanna Rangeland Multi Club. I am a junior member and my market steers name is Haas. He is a big Red Angus steer that is very gentle, enjoys eating and loves a good scratch. In fact, he will not let you pass without a scratch. His mom is a good mom who throws great calves. She grows her calves big and strong and is also really gentle.
DEXTER HUTTON My name is Dexter Hutton. I am a Junior and I have been in 4-H for six years now. This year my steers name is Blaze. He is an escape artist and seems to be able to get untied and out of his halter or his pen. Chores can be messy because he is pushy and likes to lick you until you don’t let him anymore. Blaze has been a pet since day one. This year I could lead him off of the scale at weigh day back in November. And, HE LOOKS YUMMY!

CALLIE MASHON My name is Callie Mashon. I am 12 years and this is my 7th year in 4-H. My steers name is Silver and he is a Sim-X steer. He is a baby from my own cow, that looks just like Silver. You would agree with me that he is the sweetest calf you will ever meet. Every time he sees me, he comes for some scratches. I would like to thank the leaders and volunteers for their hard work, making this year a success through COVID. I would like to thank Camden Farms of New Brigden and Desertland Cattle Company of Sedalia for buying my steer last year. Two great families to buy bulls from!
TAYLOR MASHON Hi, I am Taylor Mashon and I have been in 4-H for 8 years. This is my calf Ted, he is a Fleckvieh Simmental Steer. Ted is a long-bodied steer with good fat cover, I am positive he will taste great. He is an easy-going steer. Ted has been a pleasure to work with and I hope you like him. I would like to thank my last year’s buyer, Hanna Chrysler.
AUSTIN NELNER Hi, my name is Austin Nelner, and this is my eighth year in 4-H. This year I have a Black Angus/Simmental cross named Meatloaf. I am in the market steer program. He is a nice and well-behaved steer that does not worry much. He leads quite well, and likes being brushed out and taking things slow. He only gets riled up if the buddy steer does. He is very curious as well and if you put a hand near his nose, he will just try and lick you. He is an all-around good steer that leads well.

At weigh in he started out as a smaller calf but as the year progressed he gained weight like no tomorrow. Being a Charolais calf I knew that when I picked his size and capacity would come with time, but at my expense of having to wash an off-white calf for show day. Dryland 4-H Multi Club Dryland Multi 4H Club serves the youth in the Youngstown and surrounding area. As Youngstown is a smaller community our 4H families support the businesses in both Oyen and Hanna areas as well. Our club has been operational for 23 years. We have gone through various cycles of what projects have been offered and have remained a multi club in order to serve the interests of as many of the youth in our community as possible. This year our club has 19 members in total. The members are involved in Market Steer, Heifer, Carcass, Market Lamb, Pheasant and Cleaver Kids. This year our club has 12 Market Steers for sale in our upcoming Show and Sale. The members are extremely happy this year that they will be allowed to gather as a club to show their steers, even though there are no spectators allowed, they are still excited to see each other and their animals and see how far they have progressed. The members have been busy with their steers and they are all looking good as we get closer to sale day. There are 3 members in our club who are only participating in the Pheasant Program as well as 4 other members doing Market Steer, Heifer and Pheasants. They all have their pheasants now and have starting their growing season. They will raise their birds and will sell and release them in the fall. Once again, this year we have 2 members that have Market Lambs as well as other projects. They got their lambs in April and are now raising them and they are also ready to sell them. These are the only 2 Lambs in the District and will be sold privately. We also have 3 Cleaver Kids in the club this year. These are the members that are age 6-8 years old and are too small to show a large animal. One has a Lamb and 2 have cleaver calves. These kids have been working just as hard on their smaller animals as the big kids have been on their larger animals. They are learning lots and preparing to join the club as Junior Members when they are 9 years old. A number of our members have both Market Steer and Heifer Projects. This keeps these members very busy with all their animals. This year they will be involved in a 2 day show as they will show only Steers on Saturday June 12 followed by an online sale the same evening. The Heifer show will be Sunday June 13 and that will wrap up our Achievement Day activities for the year. Even though we have had a modified year due to the many restrictions that have been placed on these 4H members, they have all come out strong and have persevered and been extremely resilient.
KEEGAN CONNERS My name is Keegan Conners and I am an intermediate in the Dryland Multi 4-H club. This is my sixth year in 4-H. This year I have a market steer and a heifer project. My steers name is Giggles and he has been pretty good to work with so far. As of May 15th his weight is 1445 lbs. I would like to thank the Limousine Buyer group for buying my steer last year!

Dryland 4-H Multi Club
TAYLOR CONNERS My name is Taylor Conners. I am part of the Dryland Multi 4-H club and this is my fifth year in 4-H. I only have a market steer this year. His name is Ferdinand. Something that I liked about him is that he was really easy to halter break and lead from the first day. As of May 15th he weighs 1510 lb. I would like to thank the Limousine Buyer group for buying my calf last year!
KIPTYN CONNERS My name is Kiptyn Conners. I am a junior in the Dryland Multi 4-H club and this is my second year in 4-H. I only have a market steer project this year. I like my steer because he has been really tame and good for me to work with. My steers name is Buddy. As of May 15th his weight is 1535 lb. I would like to thank Super A for buying my steer last year!
MANDY CONNERS My name is Mandy Conners and this is my 4th year in 4-H. This year I have chosen a limo angus cross steer. The reason I chose this steer is because he was long and had a good frame and he looked like he could hold a lot of meat. November 11 was our weigh in. My steer weighed 665 lbs and as of May 15 he weighed 1425 lbs. I also have a heifer. She is also a limo angus cross. The reason I like 4H is because I am always learning new things and skills to help me in the future for picking animals for the farm to use for breeding and selling. For me the best part of the year of 4H is the show and sale because I get to see my friends. Unfortunately, this year because of the pandemic we are unable to have a normal show and sale so please join us on DLMS at 7:00 pm on June 12, 2021.

MEGAN CONNERS My name is Megan Conners and this is my 7th year as a 4H member. This year I have chosen a home raised red Limousine steer that I have named Waldo. I chose him because of his large frame, as well as his depth and wide rump. At weigh-in on November 11th, he weighed 650 lbs. As of May 15th, he is now weighing 1300 lbs! I enjoy feeding a Limousine steer in 4H because of the great feed efficiency and ability to get so big. When butchered they have excellent marbling and top quality meat cuts. I also have a breeding heifer in 4-H that I have been working with. I love being in 4-H not only for the animals, but because of the people I meet, and the endless knowledge I continue to gain to this day. I am so glad that I am able to sell my steer this year again, even if it is not in the usual way. I would like to thank Oyen Veterinary Services for buying my steer last year! Their support is greatly appreciated.

He is a hefty boy and will be finished nicely by June.
