FALCON FAMILY NEWS Dear Families: The Lasallian Student Life Office (LSLO) serves as the nerve center for student creativity and all things spiritual and spirited. Located right off the main lawn, a student can walk into the LSLO and find a relaxing vibe. There are students enjoying the IKEA rocking chairs during break or lunch, while others are planning service opportunities with Mrs. Hanshew, processing creative ideas with me for an upcoming retreat or liturgy, assisting Mrs. DeLeon with preparation for the next big event. You will also find Falcon Force or Student Council with Mrs. Powers and Freddy the Falcon stirring up school spirit for the upcoming rally or sport event!

A MESSAGE FROM OUR DIRECTOR OF LASALLIAN STUDENT LIFE

It is only three months into the academic year and in this short time, students have carried out rallies, a homecoming dance, two drives to benefit Oak Park, two weeklong VENAVER immersion trips to Yakima and Tucson, freshman and sophomore class retreats, and we have welcomed Brother David and Brother Luis to speak on the culture of vocation. This year, we have also launched a new mini VENAVER where students serve a Saturday at a local non-profit organization. Last month we teamed up with Loaves and Fishes. In the spirit of an inclusive community, the LSLO is not only a space for students, but for adults as well. Teachers continue to drop in, enjoy a cup of coffee, and share in the spirit of what it means to belong to CB. The purpose of the LSLO is to work with students in creating a meaningful high school experience during these important years of their development. All events hosted by the LSLO are for students and by students. We who staff this office have the immense privilege of working with our colleagues to make this happen, one week after another and from one event to the next. In this multi-task department, we strive for excellence in everything we do. Here are just a handful of activities and things we are working on before the end of the year: November begins with rich catholic traditions like the All-Saints Day and All Souls Day liturgies. We will also have our first Junior Retreat at San Damiano in Danville overlooking Mount Diablo. Afterward, we will take fifty student participants on Kairos at Alliance Redwoods. It offers a redwood-filled environment for seniors as they share their faith, enjoy an indoor rock climb, or a zipline through the trees. The freshmen will also lead the schoolwide canned food drive to benefit the ministry of Williams Memorial Church. Right before the Thanksgiving holiday, we will gather for our prayer service on Thursday, November 16, to give thanks to God for all these efforts that make life rich and high school meaningful. This is only a snapshot of what the LSLO is about. Every day we celebrate our students and their ability to offer each other a dynamic and meaningful experience on campus, located in the heart of the Oak Park Community. Live Jesus in our hearts! We are in the midst of a very busy college application period and continue to provide personal counseling and academic guidance along with extensive college planning. As you may know, Christian Brothers High School provides one of the most comprehensive programs of Advanced Placement course offerings in the region. We currently offer seventeen Advanced Placement courses and over sixteen Honors courses as well. Specific times may change depending on the weekly rotation. No appointment or registration needed; just come in if you want any help on the upcoming college applications. ATHLETICS Winter Sports Update Any student wishing to try out for a winter sport must have an updated physical on FinalForms and all the FinalForms parent and student forms signed to participate. To add your student to a tryout group, use the sport button on your FinalForms account. Capital Athletic League SCHOLAR-ATHLETE AWARD ELIGIBILITY: Athletes who are members of a Capital Athletic League recognized Varsity Team are eligible for the award. Freshmen are not eligible as the athlete must have at least one year of grades, beginning with the 9th grade. Athletes must finish the season in good standing. Athletes must have a cumulative 3.50 GPA (or above) weighted grade point average as well as a current 3.5 (or above) weighted GPA. The cumulative GPA is based on cumulative grades of Semesters from 9th grade onward. Athletes are awarded a Scholar-Athlete patch for each sport season for which they qualify. THE ARTS The season of arts performances has arrived! Tickets are on sale for our fall musical, “No, No Nanette”! Shows run Nov. 10-12 and 17-19, Fridays and Saturdays @ 7p.m. and Sundays @ 2 p.m. This, comedic, tap-dancing romp through the Roaring 20s is sure to put a smile on your face. Tickets are $5 for students and $10 General Admission, and are on sale online only via the Ticket Hub (www.cbhs-sacramento.org/ticket-hub/) Book now to reserve the best seats in the house! The performance on November 11 will be interpreted for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing. The Instrumental Christmas Concert is coming up right after Thanksgiving on Thursday, November 30 @ 7 p.m. Come see what Mr. Hammond and our student musicians have been working on this semester!
