Rachel & Chris

EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ

REAL WEDDING - RACHEL & CHRIS 8 Contemporary Weddings Magazine | cweddingsmag.com
PARK CHÂTEAU ESTATE & GARDENS
Photography by Gabelli Studio

Chris couldn’t believe how beautiful Rachel was when they met through friends and a former colleague in January 2019. “We share so many of the same morals and values, and Chris gets along with everyone who is important to me,” Rachel shared. Every year, Rachel’s family takes annual photos, which are typically done in beach attire. This particular year, though, everyone decided to get dressed in their Sunday best. As Rachel was walking down to the beach, Chris suggested they go for a walk before the photo shoot. Rather than going along with it, Rachel complained and made fun of Chris’s shoe selection as she tried to understand why he was wearing loafers on the beach.

Leading up to the wedding day, loved ones reminded Rachel and Chris to take time throughout the wedding to take it all in. “Seeing everything come together and all of the people who we love so much in one room was really special,” the bride shared. Chosen for its romantic ambiance, the Park Château Estate set the scene for the couple’s wedding day. Not only did Rachel fall in love with the grounds and ballroom, but she raved about how efficient and professional the staff was. The ceremony took place in the on-site chapel, offering a smooth transition to cocktail hour.

Finding her wedding gown was a long process for Rachel. “I tried on so many gowns I lost count. I had a vision and honestly ended up going in a completely different direction.” Although Rachel wasn’t a fan of the skinny straps and bling the dress had, she still got the feeling she was waiting for when she put

this gown on. Her mom, too, started to tear up, and after FaceTiming her mom’s best friend, Rachel knew this was her gown. The Pronovias number featured an A-line skirt with crystal detailing around the waist, and buttons cascading down the back. She paired her look with chandelier-style earrings and a diamond bracelet, which served as her something old and borrowed. Rachel’s eight bridesmaids wore Jenny Yoo champagne-hued dresses in their style choice, while her maid of honor stood out in sage. The groomsmen matched Chris and sported black Vera Wang tuxedos and Pittsburgh Steelers dress socks–Chris’ favorite team.

When asked what their biggest challenge was during this special time in their life, they both agreed it was not having Rachel’s dad physically present. “My dad passed away on the one-year anniversary of our engagement, which was the September before our wedding. I am completely heartbroken he is gone. One of his goals when he was in physical therapy was to be strong enough to walk me down the aisle. Not having him physically there was difficult for me. He was there in so many ways. In his memory we had a whole table right by the entrance into the ballroom with photos of him.” Following the wedding, the newlyweds escaped to Barceló for an Aruban honeymoon on one happy island.

REAL WEDDING - ANTONIETTA & ANTHONY 14 Contemporary Weddings Magazine | cweddingsmag.com Antonietta & Anthony 09.24.2022 NANINA’S IN THE PARK BELLEVILLE, NJ
Photography by Hillary Muelleck Photography

Love was in the air when Antonietta and Anthony met in 2013 during an Italian Club formal event called “Una Serata.” Little did they know, dancing together and some small table talk would be the start of a nurturing friendship, which later developed into an inseparable bond. “I noticed Antonietta from across the room, sitting at another table, and knew I had to introduce myself,” Anthony reminisced. “There was something special in her beautiful smile and the fact we both had the same name.” The two always knew they would spend their lives together, and Anthony asked Antonietta to marry him during a surprise boat ride on the Long Island Sound with an engagement ring custom made by Anthony’s uncle Nino–a jeweler by trade.

Inspired by the rich landscapes of Tuscany, Nanina’s In The Park turned out to be the perfect venue to host the couple’s outdoor ceremony and reception. “I fell in love with every aspect of Nanina’s from the outdoor setting to the inside charm. As soon as I walked in, I could see myself getting married there,” Antonietta mentioned. “The venue emulated a Tuscan villa, and having the opportunity to try the amazing food prior to finalizing our selection here sealed the deal,” Anthony added. The staff, too, went above and beyond to ensure a picture-perfect day.

The couple’s chosen color of terra-cotta was incorporated throughout the wedding details, including the florals conceptualized by Olivia Floral Designs and Events. Large, cascading arrangements were mounted on the top of each column on the ceremony gazebo, while smaller posies–placed on white ceremony chairs–and rose petals lined the aisle up to the altar. The romantic Tuscan feel was carried through the reception with florals on the staircase, as well as high and low centerpieces on reception tables.

Contemporary Weddings Magazine | cweddingsmag.com 15

“The most exciting part of wedding planning was picturing how beautiful my bride would be,” Anthony shared. Antonietta tried on eight gowns, but ultimately fell in love with the first princess-style dress she tried on. “It was extra special to have my grandmother present, along with my mom and sister,” Antonietta reminisced. The bride accessorized her look with silver Badgley Mischka heels, silver jewelry, and her grandmother’s ring that was passed down to her. Anthony sported a blue Calvin Klein suit, brown shoes, white silk Italian tie with silver and copper tie clasp, watch, and cuff links.

Following the celebration, the newlyweds escaped to Italy for their honeymoon where they explored Tuscany, Florence, and Rome. After a long-distance courtship, Antonietta and Anthony are enjoying time together and looking forward to sharing many memories in the years to come.

Photographer: Nicole Klym Photography • Venue: The Hamilton Manor

After meeting through an online dating app and getting to know each other for a while, Samantha and William shared their first date at Fasil Mediterranean Restaurant in Boonton, NJ. “Everything was going great. I dropped Billy back off at his grandparents’ and on his way inside, he dropped all his leftovers on the driveway. He was so embarrassed, and I thought it was the funniest thing,” Samantha reminisced. On July 4th, the two planned a barbecue at their house with their friends. Little did Samantha know, Billy had a proposal planned as they watched the fireworks over by the pool.

Kristina and John met with the help of the dating app Bumble. They both attended Montclair State University, but their paths never crossed on campus. The two got to know each other over the phone and a few weeks later, Johnny asked Kristina on a date to a restaurant called The Oakley. After dinner and trivia, they went back to their alma mater to look at the NYC skyline. On July 6, 2022, Johnny took Kristina on a last-minute trip to Pennsylvania to visit Longwood Gardens. They explored many trails, saw the fountain displays, and after lunch, Johnny wanted to check out one specific garden on the map. They made their way down the path to the stairs that led down to a quiet, flowered garden. It was there Johnny got down on one knee and proposed. “Without knowing, Johnny proposed on the same date as my great-grandparents’ wedding, and our wedding date will be held on the same day my grandparents met.”

Stephanie and Christopher met while attending college at Towson University. They shared an amazing group of friends, and the two of them just clicked. Throughout the pandemic, they were forced to date long distance. Every year they usually went ice skating but hadn’t been able to do so with some of the guidelines in place until they saw that an outdoor rink was opening in Maryland, and they coordinated a night out with friends. Once they had their skates and got to a bench to put them on, Stephanie needed assistance with tying her laces properly. It was at that moment Chris got down on one knee to help and pulled out a ring.

Erica and Nick never would have imagined that a college job at Friendly’s would guide them to their forever person. The two–who were 18 and 20 at the time–immediately had a connection and fell in love. “Nick proposed on one of the first warm days in April. We went for a walk around a local reservation during sunset when he popped the question.” After a quiet and intimate moment, the couple celebrated at home over a bottle of wine and FaceTimed family and friends to share the good news.

Allison and Evan met in 2012 when her older brother, JJ, invited Evan over for their Memorial Day barbecue at their house. Although they were in each other’s company for years, it wasn’t until Allison was 21 that they began dating. About ten years later, Allison and Evan went to brunch at Maritime Parc in Jersey City. After they ate, they walked down to the waterfront, where Evan got down on one knee and asked Allison to marry him. After a resounding “Sure!” Allison turned around to see family and friends watching from the top of the hill. They celebrated with a surprise engagement party at Mediterraneo Restaurant in Bayonne.

Selecting a Wedding Venue You’ll Love

Tips for narrowing down your wedding location

You’re finally engaged and probably eager to get the planning process started. But before you can start crossing off all those exciting tasks on your wedding to-do list, you’ll need to start at the very beginning: choosing a location. Your venue is the most important detail you’ll select throughout the planning process. It not only sets the overall vibe of the day, but you also can’t retain any other vendors without having a date and location already secured. Not sure where to start? We have you covered with our top five tips for helping you scout and narrow down your dream wedding venue.

26 Contemporary Weddings Magazine | cweddingsmag.com WEDDING PLANNING - Reception
Keri Calabrese Photography

Keep your budget in mind

It goes without saying weddings are expensive. So, before you can begin your research, it’s important to determine your overall budget and then allocate funds for each wedding category (i.e., catering, photography, video, florals/décor, music, stationery, etc.). Expect about 30% of your total budget to be dedicated to the venue. This will set your search up for success right from the beginning before scheduling venue tours and having serious sticker shock. Trust us. One of the absolute worst things that can happen is to fall in love with a venue only to realize it’s not financially the right fit.

Decide on the geographic location

Once you have a wedding budget, it’s time to consider where you want the festivities to take place. Do you love the idea of exchanging vows barefoot in the sand? Have you been dreaming of a traditional church ceremony in your

hometown followed by a formal ballroom celebration? Does the thought of whisking guests away for a destination wedding excite you? If so, what does that locale look like? Is it easy to travel to or is it internationally based? Even though it’s your day, you do need to consider conveniency for guests. After all, the goal is for guests to RSVP yes!

Consider the capacity

Your total guest count has one of the biggest impacts when it comes to selecting your venue. Knowing an approximate total guest count is valuable prior to venue researching as you can eliminate facilities that are either too small or too big for your wedding size. Additionally, having this number will help determine if the price-per-person can potentially exceed your allocated budget. Keep in mind your guest list also impacts other costs, such as catering, florals/ centerpieces, rentals, and even stationery.

WHETHER YOU'RE PLANNING A GRAND BALLROOM WEDDING OR AN INTIMATE DINNER UNDER THE STARS, CONSIDER THESE DETAILS DURING YOUR VENUE VISITS.

• Plan B: Are you planning for an outside ceremony? Make sure the facility of your dreams offers a backup plan for inclement weather.

• Payment: What forms of payment does the facility accept and do they offer a payment plan? Keep an eye out for any hidden fees.

• Exclusivity: Will your wedding be the only event hosted at the venue that day?

• Are there any vendor restrictions? Be sure to note if you can hire your own vendors or if you need to stick to the facility’s preferred vendor list.

• Parking: Ensure that there is parking on site, and if not, find out if they provide a valet service to park guests’ cars for efficiency.

Contemporary Weddings Magazine | cweddingsmag.com 27
John Agnello Photography Nicole Klym Photography

Determine your wedding style

If you have a specific aesthetic already in mind, look for venues that fall within that look. If your wedding style is rustic, you’ll look at venues located on a farm, an estate, or even in the mountains. If you want a beach wedding, you’ll head closer to the coast and look at venues in seaside towns with waterfront views. You must resonate with the overall look and feel of a venue for it to work with your wedding vision.

Contact your favorites

Now that you have a list of your top five to ten venues, it’s time to contact them to schedule site visits–preferably in the same season you ideally want your wedding to take place

in. Venues tend to book up a year or more in advance, so the sooner you reach out, the better. If you already have a specific date in mind, you’ll want to find out if that date is open prior to scheduling a visit. If the venue is not available for your preferred date, ask yourself if the location or date is more important.

If you’re still not sure where to begin after keeping these tips in mind, start your location search with the Contemporary Weddings Magazine wedding reception guide. Each facility is organized by county and offers an overview of details from approximate costs and capacity to contact information and more to help you narrow down and choose the wedding location of your dreams. Happy planning!

REAL WEDDING - CATHERINE & NICHOLAS
Photography by Monica Mendoza Photography

When Catherine and Nicholas attended college orientation at Villanova University, they never would have imagined they’d sit next to the person they’d decide to spend forever with. Although the two made a first impression, they remained only friends throughout college, but were given a second opportunity for their relationship to progress into something more during law school.

Catherine knew Nicholas was the one after only about a year of dating. “My dad passed away that year, and Nicholas was there for me in a way that only family can be. That’s when I knew he was my family,” Catherine reminisced. The couple spent a month in Bar Harbor, Maine, in August of 2020, and during their last week, they went on a cliff walk. Nicholas asked Catherine to marry him during an intimate proposal as they were overlooking the water during sunset.

When it came to planning their April 23, 2022 wedding, Catherine and Nicholas dreamt of a celebration that would be forever timeless. They went with an all-white color palette, but incorporated touches of greenery and dusty blue to also emulate the spring season. Guests were invited to the nuptials with custom invitations designed by Every Little Letter. “This was my favorite part of the planning process,” the bride expressed. “As an attorney, I don’t often get to express my creative side, and the invitation process was finally an opportunity to be a bit artistic. I had so much fun choosing colors, papers, and even stamps that were unique and expressed who we are.” The five-piece suite exuded luxury with custom gold calligraphy, a rendering of The Park Savoy Estate, a wedding crest, dusty blue floral envelope liner, and texture through the vellum jacket that wrapped around each suite tied with a dusty blue silk ribbon.

REAL WEDDING - CATHERINE & NICHOLAS 30 Contemporary Weddings Magazine | cweddingsmag.com

Catherine and Nicholas saw each other for the first time as she walked down the aisle of Our Lady of Sorrows, which happened to be Nicholas’ favorite memory of the day. The bride donned the Sareh Nouri Emma gown–the first dress Catherine tried on–and adorned her look with a cathedral-length veil, pearl and crystal earrings, a pearl bracelet, a diamond tennis bracelet (gifted by the groom), and Loeffler Randall heels, which served as her something blue. Catherine also had her maternal great grandma Rose’s handkerchief (something old) and her paternal grandma’s handkerchief (something borrowed) tied around her cascading bouquet made of roses, baby’s breath, dendrobium orchids, and Italian ruscus.

Following the traditional church ceremony, guests made their way to celebrate the newlyweds. Chosen for its elegance, beautiful grounds, and cuisine, The Park Savoy Estate set the scene for a reception to remember. Family and friends dined at tables decorated in variated high and low centerpieces made of all-white florals and lush greens. Table numbers were placed in gold frames, while pillar candles and tealights created a romantic glow throughout the ballroom. When guests weren’t on the dancefloor, they could be found leaving the newlyweds a recording of well wishes using an old-fashioned telephone through the audio guest book from FêteFone.

When asked if they have any wedding planning advice, Catherine shared, “Don’t spend so much time worrying about the little details. It’s ultimately about the two of you and the people you love that makes the day special.”

Cathy didn’t think much of Joe in that instance when he sparked up a nonchalant conversation with her in their work café in March of 2011. “He asked if I had been to Webster Hall in the city, and they called him Mr. Fun. I got a kick out of it,” Cathy reminisced. “I loved him pretty early on when he started opening up to me, but it grew throughout the years in learning what a great and interesting person he was.” Cathy knew the proposal was coming when he told her to paint her nails. “I laugh about it now,” she mentioned. Sure enough, Joe proposed on the beach they frequently go to following dinner at a nearby restaurant.

Selecting their venue was an easy decision after visiting the Crystal Ballroom in Freehold, New Jersey. The staff was not only warm and welcoming, but the couple also loved the idea of having the ceremony and reception in one location without having to worry about guests commuting.

Cathy stopped in Nicole’s Bridal Boutique with her now cousin-in-law just to get an idea of what kind of dress she would want. During that appointment, she tried on six dresses and ultimately fell in love with the second gown she slipped on. The form-fitted gown featured a low-cut front, open back, and intricate lace over a nude lining. She accessorized her wedding look with cubic zirconia chandelier earrings, a floral hair clip pinned to the left side of her hair, a gold bracelet, and Badgley Mischka shoes.

As for the groom? Joe sported a gray suit from Men’s Wearhouse with a cream-colored tie, white shirt, and amber-brown shoes with a matching belt. His best man and groomsmen complemented his look in gray suits with dusty blue ties, which matched the matron of honor’s and bridesmaid’s dresses.

The two decided on having a first look to eliminate any pre-ceremony jitters and tears, but walking down the aisle escorted by her dad was the bride’s favorite memory of the day. “He had gone through some health scares, and it was truly a very special moment for the both of us.” The ceremony décor was kept simple with rose petals lining the aisle and florals displayed behind the officiant. The ballroom was decorated with arrangements–supplied by the venue–on ivory linens and gold napkins. Gold-framed table numbers and a photo booth picture frames were also placed on guest tables.

When asked if they had any advice for future couples, Cathy shared, “Don’t get too hung up or stressed with the planning. Things will fall into place, and rain won’t stop a party. Enjoy the time you have with everyone there. It goes by fast. Take in as much as you can.”

REAL WEDDING - CRISTINA & BRYAN
Contemporary Weddings Magazine | cweddingsmag.com 35
Photography by Nicole Klym Photography

Cristina and Bryan bonded over Mexican food and a knee scooter during their first date and knew early on they had found the person they wanted to spend forever with. “On the way to our first date, I was telling Bryan how fearful I was that I’d need a knee scooter for an injury I had. We laughed about how funny that would be because no one ever uses those. We sat down at the bar, and within two minutes a knee scooter scooted past us at the bar. We still laugh about this,” Cristina reminisced. The two made a great first impression and hung out 15 days in a row after that first date. On Cristina’s 30th birthday, Bryan proposed in their first apartment before moving into their new home.

Cristina often finds herself looking back on the wedding day, thinking about the small moments and never wanting to forget the love they felt on May 6, 2022. The couple wed the previous year during a church ceremony to make sure their grandmas, who are both in their mid-nineties, would be able to be there. They celebrated their first anniversary with a vow renewal and reception at The Rockleigh. “We wanted to make things as convenient as possible for our guests. We also loved the seamless transition from ceremony to cocktail hour to reception,” the couple shared. “The Rockleigh was the first appointment I went to. Like many other things in my life, the first place has seemed to be the one. I immediately got butterflies and envisioned all parts of our day there,” Cristina added.

REAL WEDDING - CRISTINA & BRYAN 36 Contemporary Weddings Magazine | cweddingsmag.com

Luckily, Nicole Klym Photography was behind the scenes throughout the day to photograph all the raw emotions. The couple raved they loved how detail oriented Nicole was and how she went above and beyond to help ensure their day ran smoothly. After the morning prep, Nicole captured their first look–with their rescue pup, Moose, in tow–which just so happened to be both Cristina and Bryan’s favorite memory of the day.

Cristina’s gown was the first one she tried on. Hesitant that there was no way she could have found the dress of her dreams so quickly, Cristina continued looking, but ultimately decided on the Martina Liana number featuring a plunging V-neckline with intricate, yet soft detailing. Bryan sported a classic black tuxedo with suspenders and bow tie.

The ceremony décor was kept minimal to highlight the elegance of The Rockleigh, while the ballroom incorporated a whimsical and romantic feel. Tables were decorated in high and low variated floral arrangements made of a neutral color palette and gold accents that complemented the cream linens, gold chairs, and frosted acrylic table numbers. A custom menu card was also wrapped in a napkin at each place setting.

Even though Cristina and Bryan found the ever-changing covid restrictions to be their biggest challenge during the planning process, they ultimately had the best time celebrating with their family and friends. They’re currently looking forward to traveling and starting a family.

REAL WEDDING - MARIA & THEMI 40 Contemporary Weddings Magazine | cweddingsmag.com

Middle school sweethearts Maria and Themi had attended parochial school together since kindergarten. It started with just a crush on each other in seventh grade, but the two made their relationship “official” on December 23, 2008. They even went to the eighth grade dance and high school prom together. “I’ve always known Themi was the one and that we would eventually get married when the time was right,” Maria shared. On July 4, 2021, the couple was visiting Themi’s family’s vacation home in Long Island, who was hosting a barbecue for the holiday. Little did Maria know that she would be arriving to a proposal on the front lawn with an engagement party to celebrate with family and friends.

The couple decided to keep things traditional and opted to see each other for the first time at the location that brought them together for a full-circle moment. Maria walked down the floral-lined aisle of St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church Shrine, wearing a Pnina Tornai gown from Kleinfeld Bridal. The strapless fit-and-flare gown featured a V-neck and detachable sleeves that mirrored the same lace and appliqué detailing as the dress. She accessorized with a complementing veil, solitaire diamond studs, a cushion-cut tennis bracelet, and added a headpiece for the reception. Themi sported a sleek, three-piece black tuxedo with a satin shawl lapel and matching black buttons. He wore black Mont Blanc cuff links and a gray-faced Rolex.

Contemporary Weddings Magazine | cweddingsmag.com 41

Following the ceremony, the newlyweds and guests headed to The Estate at Florentine Gardens to dine and dance. “We had seen the venue on social media and thought it was beautiful. The reviews were also wonderful,” Maria shared. While the grounds and ballroom impressed Maria and Themi, the staff is what sealed the deal. “We met with Maria each time, and she made the whole process so smooth.”

Tables were decorated in a mix of satin and matte ivory linens with two variated centerpieces. The high florals incorporated a mix of roses, hydrangeas, and baby’s breath with hanging teardrop candle globes surrounded by candle votives, while the candelabra-style centerpieces had the same florals at the base for a cohesive look. Maria and Themi shared a first dance to “Unchained Melody” by the Righteous Brothers as loved ones watched on and danced the night away to a mix of modern American pop, Hispanic, and traditional and modern Greek hits.

Following what the couple recalled as the most perfect wedding, the newlyweds escaped to Hawaii for their honeymoon. They visited Oahu, The Big Island, and Maui and enjoyed a mix of relaxation and adventure.

REAL WEDDING - REBECCA & KIM
Photography by Alexa Lynn Photography

Kim was a student at Rutgers University and was tasked with giving the campus tour when Rebecca was interviewing for graduate school. “I remember knowing right away Rebecca was going to be important to me, but I don’t think I could honestly say she would one day be my wife,” Kim reminisced. For Rebecca, it wasn’t until she took a trip without Kim to visit family that she took a step back and thought about what life would look like if they got married. It was at that moment Rebecca realized she was ready to take the next step in their relationship.

With a summer lake vacation in Maine planned, Kim knew it was the perfect opportunity to propose. Kim popped the question on the dock, Rebecca said yes, and then walked away. Little did Kim know that Rebecca also had a surprise up her sleeve. Rebecca proposed with a diamond infinity double-cross ring.

The couple kept an open mind for the wedding location and even scouted the East Coast for venues that had a greenhouse conservatory style. Rebecca and Kim eventually landed on The Madison Hotel, which was not only located in the state where they first met, but also a middle ground between families, close enough to a major airport for out-of-town guests, and in a small town that loved ones would enjoy exploring. Thinking about marrying Rebecca was the most exciting part of wedding planning for Kim, and after much anticipation, the two finally walked down the aisle together and exchanged personal vows in front of the most important people in their lives, with their close friend Janna officiating the ceremony. “We met Janna in graduate school and when we started talking about who we would want to officiate, we both had Janna in mind. Janna is super warm, loving, and always cheered us on, so it was an easy choice in the end,” the couple revealed.

44 Contemporary Weddings Magazine | cweddingsmag.com REAL WEDDING - REBECCA & KIM

Following the ceremony, the newlyweds and guests were ready to party. Organically arranged centerpieces in jewel tones were placed on the reception tables, along with taper candles, gray cheeseclothstyle runners on white linens, and table numbers made by the couple. The ceremony arch was also repurposed as a focal point for the sweetheart table. “I was most excited to see the florals from Blue Jasmine after we met with Paulina and settled on our color scheme,” Rebecca shared.

When guests weren’t dining or dancing, they delighted in fun activities throughout the evening, including an I Spy game with hidden llama figurines, a photo booth, a temporary tattoo bar, and a crossword puzzle about Rebecca and Kim. “It was great to have something for people to do other than just dance and eat!” At the end of the night, Rebecca changed out of her beaded BHLDN gown into a satin jumpsuit for a sparkler send-off photo before they continued dancing the night away amongst loved ones. “It had been so long since we got to spend time with many of these people (because of covid) and them seeing Kim and I so happy and in love was the best part of the day!”

Anna & David

REAL WEDDING - ANNA & DAVID 48 Contemporary Weddings Magazine | cweddingsmag.com
05.06.2022
THE HAMILTON MANOR HAMILTON TOWNSHIP, NJ Photography by Nikki & Chip Photography

Anna and David initially met in the fall of 2015 while playing on a coed softball team, but it wasn’t until the following summer that they formed a friendship, which later turned into love. “I realized David wasn’t like all the other guys I have ever dated before, and I was very curious to get to know him better,” Anna mentioned. As their love grew stronger, the two talked about getting married and even went engagement ring shopping together. “I knew she was the one about two months in. I was always afraid of having someone know me too much, but with Anna, I was comfortable and unafraid to share all aspects of my life,” David shared. Even though Anna knew an engagement was coming, David was still able to coordinate a proposal on the beach at Long Beach Island–the location where they shared their first kiss–that had both beaming with joy.

After getting engaged in August 2020, Anna and David knew that booking a date would be difficult, so they jumped on May 6, 2022 and began planning their rustic-meets-modern wedding at The Hamilton Manor. Despite the couple’s anticipation and plans to utilize the outdoor spaces of the venue, Mother Nature had another idea in store: RAIN. Not just a drizzle or a shower, but torrential downpours all day. To say Anna and David were bummed was an understatement, but they made the most of the situation that was out of their control. “It was still the most fun I ever had surrounded by every single person I love. I was surprised that all the details that I thought I cared about the most did not matter at all to me the day of the wedding,” Anna mentioned.

Contemporary Weddings Magazine | cweddingsmag.com 49

A little rain didn’t stop Nikki & Chip Photography from working their creative magic to ensure Anna and David received photos they loved. The clear bubble umbrellas not only kept the couple as dry as possible during outdoor portraits, but made great props too! “Worrying about good photos was the least of my concerns because I knew Nikki & Chip would ace them!” the couple raved. Anna slipped on hunter-green rain boots to brave the rain, which coordinated beautifully to her hand-tied bouquet incorporating white blooms and mixed greens. She radiated in an A-line JLM Couture gown featuring an asymmetrical pattern petal detailing throughout. The groom looked dapper in a classic black tuxedo with peak lapels, silver cuff links (gifted by the bride) and watch, black bow tie, and a white pocket square.

With their man of honor and best woman standing by their sides, the couple were married by Anna’s father during a heartfelt ceremony, and they were ready to celebrate immediately after. The reception took place in the barn, decorated with low centerpieces and romantic candlelight. Anna and David incorporated frosted acrylic signage and personalized details through signature drinks, framed engagement photos, and a custom cake topper. They even included their dog, who was positioned on the bottom tier to appear like he was eating the cake. Now that the wedding is over, Anna and David are enjoying date nights–including learning to cook new recipes together–and looking forward to starting a family in the future.

Samantha & Michael 04.09.2022 THE MANSION AT OYSTER BAY WOODBURY, NY
REAL WEDDING - SAMANTHA & MICHAEL Contemporary Weddings Magazine | cweddingsmag.com 53
Photography by Vanessa Joy

Samantha and Michael hit it off as soon as they met in high school and were best friends for two years before they started dating. “Funny enough, Samantha was introduced to me by my ex-girlfriend, whom I was still friends with at the time. Samantha was very smart, exceedingly kind, and she quickly became someone I cared deeply for,” Michael recalled. Michael, too, made a great first impression on Samantha, and she knew long before he got down on one knee that she wanted to marry Michael. “He always made me feel safe, loved, and wanted. I’m so happy that our relationship progressed into the love that it did,” Samantha shared.

Michael planned a vacation to Jacksonville Beach in June 2020. The first night of the trip, they headed to the beach before their dinner reservations. After a short walk, Michael proposed with a one-carat, brilliant-cut, halo-style setting engagement ring. He even arranged to have a photographer to capture the moment on camera and had a photo session right after.

The two-year planning process was stressful at times for Samantha and Michael, but they were able to keep it fun and enjoyable by celebrating every time they hit milestones, such as choosing a date, choosing a venue, and booking their favorite vendors. “Take planning step-by-step and focus on booking your major vendors,” Samantha shared.

“Make a list that organizes everything you are looking for and itemize it to start your discussion with your partner. It's important to understand what you and your partner consider ‘must-haves’ and the details you are flexible on. It starts a good dialogue about important details early on and will aid in future budgeting and decision-making conversations,” Michael added.

REAL WEDDING - SAMANTHA & MICHAEL

The couple knew they wanted their wedding to have an elegant feel and opted for a classic black-and-white color palette with accents of light pink and gold. Choosing to wed at the church where they both received all their holy sacraments was important to both Samantha and Michael. Being the only daughter, Samantha wanted to give her dad the honor of walking her down the aisle, and Michael also knew how much it meant to his parents and grandparents to see them marry in church.

Following the ceremony officiated by Father Tom Moriarty, the newlyweds and guests headed to The Mansion at Oyster Bay for a traditional ballroom reception. “We live in Nashville, Tennessee, but we knew we had to have our wedding in New York with all our friends and family,” Samantha noted. Upon touring the venue, the couple fell in love with the grandeur from the dark cherry wood to the elegant décor. The fact that the 20th-century mansion was theirs for the entire day also made the decision an easy choice. Not to mention, the staff was attentive and thoroughly walked them through what their wedding day would look like.

The ballroom was perfectly decorated in tables adorned in white paisley patterned linens with either a high or low floral arrangement designed with hydrangeas, roses, blush spray roses, eucalyptus, and orchids. Gold chargers were placed at each place setting, along with custom menu cards that complemented the wedding invitations designed by the bride. Table numbers in gold frames were also placed on the table, as well as votive candles for a romantic glow.

Following the dinner, dancing, and dessert, the party continued with a rooftop after-party. In lieu of traditional favors, guests were treated to more food stations for late night snacks, as well as an open bar to continue celebrating with the newlyweds. When asked if they had any guidance for future engaged couples, Samantha advised, “It’s your day. Make it how you want it, but don’t be afraid to lean on your wedding party for help and support.”

About Aruba

Cradled within the southern Caribbean, the Dutch island of Aruba is 15 miles north of the Venezuelan coast and has long lured discerning travelers to its sun-soaked shores. Part of the ABC Islands–together with Bonaire and Curaçao–Aruba is ideally located outside of the hurricane belt, offering those who visit nearperfect weather 365 days a year. Clear skies, warm sunshine, refreshing, constant trade wind breezes, average temperatures in the low 80s, and only about 15 inches of rainfall for the entire year are just a few of the many reasons the island has one of the highest return-visitor rates in the Caribbean.

While youÊre in Aruba, the friendliest residents (claiming over 90 distinct nationalities from more than 130 countries) are sure to make your holiday feel like home. Although the official languages are Dutch and Papiamento–a language drawn from Spanish, Portuguese, Dutch, African dialects, and more–most Aruban residents are multilingual and also speak English and Spanish. ArubaÊs rich, multicultural history can be seen throughout

the entire island, from the vibrant architecture and island excursions to delectable cuisines and, of course, ArubaÊs monthlong Carnival celebration (uniting the entire country) with over-the-top pageantry, music, parades, parties, and more.

Where to Stay

Nestled on ArubaÊs famous two-mile stretch of Palm Beach is a spectacular, beachfront all-inclusive resort. ItÊs an oasis thatÊs known to mesmerize with its captivating white sandy shores, picturesque palapas, and fascinating sites. Your Aruban stay begins at the Barceló Aruba. Here, guests will enjoy only the finest in Aruba luxury, complete with VIP service. Panoramic ocean views prevail from each of the hotelÊs 373 room balconies, but itÊs within the 44 Royal Level rooms, where discerning couples will truly enjoy elite amenities and VIP services within the resort. In addition to all the standard comforts the Barceló Aruba has to offer, including spacious accommodations, bathrobes, slippers, room service, free Wi-Fi, personal concierge service, priority

reservations, and a private lounge for check-in and check-out, guests choosing Royal Level accommodations can also expect first-rate linens, pillows, towels, a minibar (restocked daily), and nighttime turndown service, as well as dining at the Royal Level Restaurant–exclusive for Royal Level guests.

Island Temptations

Whether youÊre craving poolside snacks or full-course meals, the Barceló Aruba has a variety of delectable restaurants to choose from to satisfy your tastebuds in the resortÊs seven restaurants and three bars. During the day, fulfill all of your cravings at The Beach Club, serving light fare, grilled specialties, soups, salads, and more lunch alternatives; enjoy international provisions at The Palm (buffet-style); or enjoy Italian, Mexican, Japanese, or local Aruban seafood at the themed à la carte restaurants.

Although all meals, snacks, and drinks are included at the all-inclusive Barceló Aruba, you may want to try one of the great restaurants the island has to offer. Off property, Aruba also has over 100 international restaurants, with cuisine ranging from French and Italian to Japanese and Indonesian. If you would like to try a variety of restaurants, check out the Aruba Gastronomic Association (www.arubadining.com), which represents more than 20 well-known ethnic and international restaurants on Aruba. This unique dine-around program is perfect for travelers who are new to Aruba. Purchase combination meals at an affordable price for breakfast, lunch, and dinner that include an appetizer, entrée, dessert, coffee or tea, and service charge (where applicable). And while youÊre on the island, donÊt forget to try the local cuisine as well.

Beyond the Beach

While relaxing and doing nothing at all is an all-time favorite for those who visit, thereÊs so much more to Aruba than just the beach that highlights ArubaÊs natural beauty. The California Lighthouse offers breathtaking views of the western coastline and entire island, while the Fontein Caves emphasize ArubaÊs history with drawings made by the Arawak Indians. Schedule an off-road UTV tour along the islandÊs desert side with a stop at the Natural Pool for a quick dip, or stop for a romantic picnic under the famous

divi divi trees in Arikok National Park. You can even check out the Aruba Aloe factory for a brief tour to see the process of making aloe products, and bring a few soap, lotion, or sunscreen products back home as a souvenir. For those looking for something a bit more artsy, head over to the town of San Nicolas, where art galleries, restaurants, and bars, as well as historic buildings of architectural interest await. YouÊll also want to stroll through shopperÊs paradise–Downtown Oranjestad–where youÊll find locally made artisan crafts and international brands from jewelry and fragrance to Dutch delicacies, Aruba aloe products, and even Cuban cigars!

For the adventure seeker, the steady trade winds and crystal-clear waters make this island perfect for chartering a catamaran, windsurfing, kite surfing, and spending your days exploring. Snorkeling, sailing, and surfing are just a few of the water activities you can participate in, and De Palm Tours Aruba is there to help coordinate all of the details. From spectacular sunset dinner cruises, nightlife, entertainment, casinos, and resort activities such as kayaking, snorkeling, and fitness classes like beach Zumba–you can do it all or nothing at all.

Enjoy a worry-free honeymoon in the ABC islands

When you think of honeymooning in the Caribbean, thoughts of pristine white sand, crystal blue waters, swaying palms, and picturesque views probably come to mind. While you can find an idyllic setting just about anywhere in the West Indies, it’s within the ABC islands where you’ll find unique charm and history. Aruba, Bonaire, and Curaçao are an unmatched trio in the Caribbean for so many reasons, but ultimately, you can’t beat the year-round, near-perfect weather!

About the ABC Islands

Situated just off the coast of Venezuela are the three westernmost Caribbean islands of the Leeward Antilles. Aruba, Bonaire, and Curaçao–collectively known as the ABC islands–are ideally located right outside the hurricane belt, making all three great destination options to visit regardless of the time of year. Not to mention, the ABC islands are within 50 miles of each other, making island-hopping a breeze should you want to visit all three islands during your trip. The official languages in Aruba, Bonaire and Curaçao are Dutch and Papiamentu, but English and Spanish are widely spoken on all three islands.

About St. Maarten

The Caribbean is calling you to a culturally diverse paradise located in the Lesser Antilles. Famously known for being the smallest landmass shared by two nations, St. Maarten is shared by the Kingdom of the Netherlands and France. The northern side of the island at 21 square miles is French-speaking (Saint Martin), while its southern Dutch side (Sint Maarten) is 16 square miles. Originally settled by the Taino–Arawak and Carib Indians from South America’s Orinoco Basin, St. Maarten’s residents now represent cultures of more than 100 nations, making this island home of the “Friendly People.”

Where to Stay

Located on the Dutch side of St. Maarten, Divi Little Bay is nestled on a private peninsula between two crystal-clear bays. This oceanfront resort offers spacious suites with colorful Caribbean décor and amenities for your home away from home. Each suite has a private balcony or patio with picturesque ocean views, and a variety of on-site amenities with

all-inclusive packages available. Here you’ll enjoy three ocean view pools, swim-up bar, on-site restaurants and bars, fitness center, full-service spa, and a variety of hotel activities from boat tours and sunset sails to scuba diving, snorkeling, and Jet Ski experiences through Aqua Mania Adventures.

Couples opting for additional indulgences will revel in the new Oceans at Divi Little Bay. This 98-room Caribbean oasis is located right on the Divi Little Bay Beach Resort property, next to the expansive pureocean pool and bar. Amenities include upper-tier service and luxuries including fresh robes and slippers, upgraded bathroom accessories, room only or all-inclusive options, VIP check-in and checkout, and special touches that are sure to make you feel pampered and special from the moment you arrive. Choose from one of the two hotel-style rooms or an expansive one-bedroom suite!

Tantalize Your Tastebuds

Divi Little Bay offers opportunities to treat yourself to the finest Caribbean cuisine at their on-site restaurants. Pureocean–Divi Little Bay’s signature restaurant–offers an international breakfast buffet with a Caribbean twist, as well as artfully prepared fare for dinner. Fuel up before an island adventure at Gizmo’s Bar & Grill; enjoy Mexican cuisine at The Shack; grab a slice of pizza at the new grab-and-go pizzeria; take an afternoon break for lunch at the Seabreeze Restaurant & Bar; or sip a drink and have a

midday bite without ever leaving the pool at pureocean pool bar. In the evening, watch the sun set at Mix at Oceans while sipping handcrafted cocktails at the upscale rooftop bar.

Things to Do

Relax, rejuvenate, and seek adventure during your honeymoon in St. Maarten. Spend your days relaxing under a shaded palapa on one of 37 crystalline beaches; immerse yourself in the tropical surroundings while zip-lining through the rain forest; kite surf on Orient Bay; ride an ATV on the lush terrain; and snorkel Creole Rock–the most popular snorkeling sites surrounding the island or Pinel Island–located off the coast of Orient Beach, easily accessible by boat or a 20-minute paddle via kayak. Don’t forget to visit Maho Beach, famously known for planes making their arrival at the Princess Juliana International Airport.

Made For Romance

Panoramic ocean views of the Caribbean Sea paired with refreshing island breezes make St. Maarten a perfect locale for a destination wedding in paradise. Following a heartfelt ceremony, celebrate at one of the resort’s venues, from open-air beachside restaurants to a formal ballroom. The Divi Resorts’ in-house coordinator will help you plan everything to ensure your wedding is made for romance.

Pack Your Bags

With multiple ports and two airports, traveling to this Caribbean destination is easier than packing your bags. Approximately a four-hour flight from the New York and New Jersey areas, most major air carriers will fly into the Princess Juliana International Airport. Also known as the Caribbean Hub, this airport located on the Dutch side connects to many international gateways from the United States, Europe, and South America, and is a short 10-minute ride to beaches, hotels, restaurants, and nightlife.

It’s time to put St. Maarten on your honeymoon radar, from miles of uninterrupted coastline to island exploration, culture, and more.
