Written No doubt almost all of us have sat through countless talks about “finding your purpose” and “discovering your calling” especially during those exciting but confusing young adult years. As I think about these things now, fast approaching my fifties, I have to admit that I still don’t have a completely solid handle on what, exactly, my purpose or calling is. But, unlike during my 20’s and 30’s - I’m totally okay with that. I am pretty sure of a few principles that I think we need to hold on to as believers, especially as we try to honour and be obedient to the things He has for us. I’ll share two big ones briefly here – both things that I feel strongly are often underemphasised and things I will be teaching to my children as they navigate their way towards adulthood. - The Lord generally isn’t asking you to change what you’re doing (unless of course it is illegal or against His character). Rather, He is calling you to ‘consecrate’ it. Think of the first disciples. After meeting Jesus, their job as fishermen was elevated to being ‘fishers of men’, but they still also continued as regular fishermen for the rest of their lives. The Lord added 03

a higher layer of meaning and purpose to their chosen vocation as they chose to follow Him. And although they continued fishing, that vocation no longer defined them, because their new, holy purpose was suddenly a lot bigger than that! - The Lord generally calls us to being more than to doing. I have come to believe that my calling and purpose is more about my sonship as a child of God than about what job I do. Who I am and Whose I am is way more important than what I do. Daily intimacy, surrender and righteous identity in Him are what I am called to, whatever season it is that I’m in and whatever it is that my hands find to do. I found this in my journal from a few years ago, written soon after I joined CBN: “As CBN SA Regional Director my purpose is to lead, challenge and equip individuals and teams into connection, growth and integration, for the strengthening and expansion of God’s Kingdom through the ministry of CBN. I will maximise the opportunity we have to bring His Kingdom
(freedom, wholeness, joy, restoration, truth, peace, etc) to people in the Southern and Eastern region of Africa.”
What is His call on your life? What is your purpose? Although, like me, you will want to discover certain specific answers and details to those important questions for each season of life, all of us can always be sure of our primary calling and purpose here on earth: to journey daily with our Lord, as children, in simple faith and obedience.
With God’s help, alongside my amazing team and CBN partners like you, I am honoured to try my best to still live out this call to lead each day - along with the other callings I have as a husband, dad, friend, son and brother. I am firmly convinced that within each of these roles He gives me freedom and creativity to choose a lot of the doing part. Yet He is constantly calling me and empowering me to live more and more according to His purposes for the being part. “ Ye

Pat Robertson Steps down as The Daily 700 Club Host
After 60 years of history-making TV ministry, Pat Robertson has stepped down as The 700 Club’s daily host. He made the announcement on CBN’s 60th anniversary of their first broadcast! His legacy will continue to live on in CBN and The 700 Club. Since its beginnings, the show has broadcast the Gospel to millions of viewers, it has shared incredible testimonies of real lives changed through Christ, and it has touched the lives of thousands through the generosity of partners through disaster relief and aid for those in need. “My replacement will be my very capable son, Gordon, who will take over as full-time host of the programme.” If you have watched The 700 Club recently, you would have seen that Gordon is now the
daily host alongside Terry. Pat will still appear on monthly, interactive episodes where he answers viewer’s emails. Pat will now be devoting all of his energy and experience to full-time training and equipping of their 11,000-strong student body at Regent University (which he founded in 1977). We, as CBN South Africa, are incredibly grateful for Dr Robertson’s incredible vision and obedience in creating CBN, for his wise leadership, and for the opportunity we have been given to share the Gospel and impact the nations of the Southern African region through CBN. Your Purpose as a Reliable Messenger Written
by
Enih Sone
“An unreliable messenger stumbles into trouble, but a reliable messenger brings healing.” (Proverbs 13:17) When I read this passage my attention was drawn to the last bit, “a reliable messenger brings healing”. The Holy Spirit used this portion to highlight the importance of fulfilling one’s purpose. A messenger is someone who has been sent by another to deliver a message, a parcel or something to someone who needs that which the messenger brings. The messenger carries out the assignment on behalf of the one who sent them. Every messenger has an assignment to carry out, a purpose to fulfil which when done, brings healing to the lives of those they have been assigned to serve. I believe each one of us is a messenger sent from God to carry out a unique assignment, which will bring healing to those we are called to serve. You are unreliable if your mission does not produce the healing or the transformation that was ordained by God. 07
Genesis 1:31 reminds us that everything that God has made is good. Therefore, it means every message from God is good for those who are meant to receive it. Let’s look at some examples of those who lived out their purpose and carried out their assigned task, whereby many others benefited from their obedience. 1. Jesus said in John 10.10 that: “My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life’’. Jesus was sent to give spiritual life to mankind and to deliver mankind from their sinful nature. 2. God told Abraham to leave his country and relatives and go to the land that God will show him. God’s intention was to start the nation of Israel and He found a man who was willing to obey. 3. Moses had to leave Midian where he worked with his father-in-law; tending the sheep. His life was interrupted
when God saw a need. Because he went and did what God called him to do, the people of Israel were set free from slavery. 4. Joseph used his Godgiven gift of interpretation of dreams and that led him to save the Egyptians, Jacob and his family from 7 years of famine. 5. Esther, too, was a conduit for salvation. Esther became a reliable messenger for the people of Israel by delivering them from Haman’s evil plot. 6. Mary gave up her virgin honour to bring to earth the Saviour of the world, Jesus. 7. While Peter was sent to the Jews, Paul was sent to the Gentiles to preach the Good News. 8. Gideon, Elisha… And we could go on and on. A question that I must ask myself is: am I a reliable servant?

Who is currently benefiting from my obedience to be a messenger from God? Whatever the Lord has placed on your heart is going to bring healing to those whom He placed the message in your heart for. We need to realise that at the end of it all, fulfilling your purpose and carrying out what you were told to do, is a matter of choice. Though God calls us, He does not force any of us. I hope you are encouraged as we talk about our Godgiven purpose. May you be a reliable messenger of the Lord in all that you do! Let us pray. Lord Jesus, thank you for the messages placed on my heart. May I see beyond my personal comfort and live out my purpose for the benefit of those who depend on what I bring and to the glory of your holy name. May I say yes, all the time. In Jesus name, Amen. l i k e

“And they have conquered him by the blood of the lamb and by the word of their testimony.” (Revelation 12:11) We all have a testimony, we all have a story. As Dieter F. Uchtdorf said: “Sometimes a single phrase of testimony can set events in motion that affect someone’s life for eternity”. Starting in 2020 there has been a stirring in my heart to share our stories with those who are going through similar challenges/experiences to us. After a lot of thrashing out of ideas and praying, we landed on This is Me. This is Me is a series of stories from ordinary 09
people who have found God in life-changing ways in their suffering, hardship, and dayto-day activities. It ends with a prayer for the viewer. I desire and pray that this series will set people free, encourage people and be a tool for people to use. Operation Blessing Ministry Update
Our focus was to visit two of the Cultivate Agribusiness and Discipleship programmes currently underway in Malawi. We were able to see the programme in action as well as see the impact and success of them. Our expectations were blown out of the water - these villages are determined and hardworking! With Malawi being one of the poorest nations (according to the World Bank), the focus of our projects is on food security as well as teaching skills to enable people to sell their produce or find work allowing them to do more than just survive from crop to crop. If you would like to read the full report, get in touch with our Program Manager on clayten. gouws@cbnsa.org. We strongly believe the future of this programme is bright and
has the potential of transforming many communities around Malawi, not just economically but spiritually too! God is at work through this programme with many of the students coming to know Jesus as their personal Saviour through the discipleship component of the course. Many of them are coming out of long lines of occult worship. Please continue to pray for these people, that the seeds sown by the Cultivate program will literally and spiritually land on good soil, producing a harvest that goes on through the generations.

Superbook Updates It has been an incredible year packed with lots of breakthroughs for our team! We have travelled both locally and abroad (KZN and Malawi) thanks to your support. We have met some incredible people, and have made some amazing partnerships and connections. Through it all what has been encouraging is the level of passion that people have for Superbook. The unwavering belief they have in the ministry and its ability to transform children’s lives. It is this belief that motivates us to keep going!
Malawi Trip This trip was more than a success, it is a promise of the revival that we have been praying for! We were overwhelmed with joy and gratitude by the response we received when visiting Malawi. We had decided to run a 2 hour Superbook briefing session on the 28th of September targeted at churches. Instead of the expected handful of people, over 60 participants attended. All of this within a day a weekday! Due to this unexpected result, we have committed to having a follow-up workshop online on the 23rd of October.
11
Superbook Screening in Ocean View This screening was in partnership with Safer Schools, a Western Cape government initiative that seeks to create safe spaces for children in schools. We were invited to one of the primary schools in Ocean View. Safer Schools were running a programme focused on addressing issues relating to bullying. This is one of those partnerships we look forward to developing further as it will allow us to reach hundreds, if not thousands, of children in schools with the Gospel.
Prayer Requests • We believe that the trip to Malawi will yield a lot of results in the future. Our prayer request is for strategic vision and sustainable partnerships that will allow us to see through the Superbook mission in the country of Malawi. • For the Lord to continue to provide us with passionate and driven partners who will come alongside us in the project of translating Superbook.
We want to thank you as our partners for your support and prayers this year. It is through your continued support that we can raise strong, healthy, moral leaders for our nation’s future. 12

“When are you going to call my mom?” asks Lerato*. This has been Lerato’s question since the day she was told that contact has been made with her family. Lerato’s mom abandoned her when she was eight days old, leaving her with her maternal grandmother who passed away shortly after that, and Lerato was taken to a baby orphanage. It is said that Lerato’s father was abusive and claimed that Lerato was not his child. As a result, Lerato’s mother fled for her life. Lerato is now part of the Beautiful Dream Society Children’s Home in Lesotho, supported by Orphan’s Promise. Years later, Lerato’s mother began to look for her child. She wanted to know what happened to her daughter. Her life has become more stable after remarrying and she wanted to find her daughter and try to build a bond with her. 13
It is common for children living in residential care in Lesotho to have at least one parent or close family member who is still living. In many cases, these family members could care for their children if given the right support. Family reunification is the process of reintegrating a child back into his or her birth family. Reunification is considered the best option for children leaving residential care—but only if, and when, it is deemed safe and appropriate after thorough child and family assessment.
Family reunification is not a onetime event. It requires extensive collaboration to determine if reunification is in the child’s best interests. It needs to identify and facilitate appropriate family-strengthening services, preparing the child and family, supervising preplacement communication and visits to encourage reconnection, and offering regular postplacement follow-up support. Reunification is not always possible or appropriate. When reuniting a child with his or her birth family is determined to be unsafe or not in the best interests of a child at any stage in the process, then alternative forms of family care—kinship care, foster care, or adoption—
should be considered. The first time Lerato spoke to her mother on the phone, she couldn’t stop talking about what a great experience it was. Lerato is now in grade 6 and a goal has been set that Lerato may join her biological family in one of the rural villages when she completes grade 7. Until then, Lerato and her mother will be visiting each other to get to know one another and build on their relationship. It might be a great challenge for Lerato to adopt to a rural lifestyle because she has never experienced that. She is, however, excited that she may be going ‘home’ soon. Lerato’s mother has committed to pay a visit to the BDS Children’s Home soon. She will get to see where Lerato has been raised and to meet the house mothers and her daughter for the first time. Please pray with us for Lerato and her mother, that God’s will be done in both of their lives. God knows what He’s doing, when it needs to be done and we know everything will work out for their good.

Discovering Your Purpose Written
Why am I here? What is my life all about? What is my purpose here? These are such important questions that so many of us have asked, me included, and may still be asking ourselves. For me, it has been a journey of discovery - not as much a discovery about myself, but rather of God. As far back as I can remember, I have wanted to “do something big” for God. I honestly didn’t really care what that “something” was, although I did have some ideas. I just wanted to do it. And I waited for the moment this would happen. I was waiting for the time when I would suddenly land in my calling, the purpose of why I

am here. But it never came…
Because it was always there! What I have learnt through my journey of “finding my calling” in life isn’t rocket science, but it has transformed how I view life and how I live my life too. 1. You are designed for your calling. Having a calling on your life is not something only holy people are given. It is part of your identity through Jesus. We are ALL a piece of the beautiful tapestry that God is weaving together. What this means for us is that we don’t need to earn our calling, we are born with it.
2. God is not hiding your calling from you. I believe that a yes within our hearts is what activates our earthly eyes to see our calling. It has always been there, but our own need to control our lives may be blocking our eyes from seeing what is right in front of us. God tells us that He knows the plans He has for us. He has always known those plans and I believe that when we release our own desires to control those plans, when we say yes to everything that God has for us, our hearts’ position changes and our spiritual eyes begin to see that our calling and purpose is not a what, but rather a who. 3. Our calling and purpose is connected to who we are more than what we do. Wearing the latest and best running shoes doesn’t make you win the race. Your body’s design and muscles do. God doesn’t define you by what you do, so neither should we. This doesn’t mean God doesn’t have a specific purpose for you because He does. We are fearfully and wonderfully made with and for a purpose, a beautifully unique purpose that He has designed all our passions, our
strengths, our desires, and our hearts, to fulfill. When we lean into Him and His identity in us, we start walking into what He called us to. “For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.” (Ephesians 2:10). If the question about your purpose and what you are called to do in this world is sitting heavy on your heart today, know this: when Jesus called His disciples, the twelve men that would change the world forever, all He asked of them was to say yes to following Him. Your yes will transform your world and the world around you! You can have my “yes” with no exception. Laying down my rights to second guessing. You can have my yes. I’m giving you my fear of never knowing Whatever’s coming next, I know you’ve got me. You can have my yes. Running to the Light, Brandon Lake 16
Purpose-filled Mindfulness Written

We are all called to fulfil a specific role in God’s Kingdom. We were created with purpose, with intention, with God’s very breath inside our lungs. I remember as kids, we’d ask each other if our parents had us by accident. We’d want to know if our parents really wanted us, or if it had happened accidentally.
series of purposes. Sometimes small purposes lead to others. Other times, we have a specific purpose in a specific moment, and then we move on. Many times, we need to work collectively with others to fulfil a purpose. And sometimes, but not as often, God shows us the bigger picture and we take steps to fulfil His plans.
With God, there are no accidents. Psalm 139 paints a beautiful picture of Him forming us in our mother’s wombs. That is no accident. Perhaps our parents had not planned us, but God certainly had.
This year, as my chronic illness “I

This is something I try to remind myself of often. Some of you may have watched my episode in the This is Me (check it out on our YouTube channel if you haven’t) series where I share a bit about my journey with chronic illness and finding God in it. It has been in this journey that I have learnt to a great extent that God certainly does not make mistakes, we have a purpose in every situation we find ourselves in, and mindfulness is key.

reached new heights and begun to interfere with my daily life and activities, I had to reassess how I viewed my purpose and God in it. I didn’t understand why God wouldn’t just heal me and let me continue with my life, adding a miraculous healing to my testimony. In my mind, my
illness was hindering my ability to pursue my purpose – the known and unknown purposes I know God has set out for me. But God doesn’t work the way we expect Him to. Our broken idea of ‘good’ and His are vastly different. And thank goodness for that! Importantly, in this process with God, I learnt to be present in each moment. We get so caught up in planning and thinking ahead that we forget to live in the moment, to enjoy the blessings God has right in front of our eyes. My chronic illness has not only taught me to lean into God in the suffering, but that He, and we, can have purpose in the suffering. It’s taught me to seek out the goodness in each moment, despite any suffering. It’s taken my focus from worrying about the future, to enjoying the moment and trusting Him. He is good through it all. Being mindful isn’t just a fad to follow or a meditation technique, it’s essential to our
relationship with God and those around us. Especially in our busy world. Wherever you find yourself right now, take a moment to breathe. Breathe in His presence, His peace. Take in your surroundings. And as you plan your day, ask yourself: “What purpose is God achieving in and through my life today?” Is it situation- specific or is He preparing you for another, bigger purpose? Whatever it is, trust Him in the process and live in the moment (Matthew 6:27). As we look at the world around us. At the chaos, the brokenness, the hurt... let’s remember that God makes no mistakes. Humans do. And God works in us and through us for His glory and for the benefit of others. And you have a key role to play in restoring His peace in our beautiful, broken world.
“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33)

We are Born of God Written
We were called to be satisfied by Him alone. I am encouraged by this scripture each day: “As many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God… born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, not of the will of man, but of God. I see before me faces I know, and I can tell that these people are born of God.” (John 1:12-13) Some people come with very small expectations concerning God’s fullness and a lot of people are satisfied with the thimble full. You can just imagine God saying, “Oh if they only knew how much more I have to give!” Others come with larger containers, and it overflows. God the Father is longing for us to be satisfied. God is longing for us to have such a desire for more, a desire that only He can satisfy. I think about my little children and their desire for me, their mother. Imagine a little child screaming, being passed from one person to the next. The child is never satisfied until he gets to the arms of his mother. You will find that no peace, no help, no source of strength, no power, no life, nothing can satisfy the 19

cry of the child of God. Nothing but the Word of God. God has a very special way of satisfying the cries of His beloved children. He is waiting to open the windows of heaven until He has moved in the depths of our hearts so that everything that doesn’t resemble Him has been destroyed. God has a special plan for our lives. He has called us for His purposes and for His Glory. The Bible says that He has set eternity in our hearts. This Christmas, as we remember the birth of our Saviour, let us remember that God wants us to be filled by the Holy Spirit. He wants us to be like a watered garden, filled with the fragrance of His own heavenly joy. The Son of God came for no other purpose than to lift, to mold, and to remold, until ‘we have the mind of Christ’ (1 Corinthians 2:16). I pray that you would be filled with the love, peace and joy of Jesus Christ this festive season. Thank you for joining us on our mission as CBN to be the hands and feet of Jesus and to ‘make disciples of the nations’. Thank you for your prayers and support. God bless you.

Q&A with Pat Robertson
Q A
I have family members who make fun of the Bible. They say it was written by man, and there’s no proof that God had anything to do with it. How do I prove that the Bible is trustworthy? You can quote from the Bible itself. Hebrews 9:27-28 says, “Just as people are destined to die once, and after that to face judgement, so Christ was sacrified once to take away the sins of many.” In other words, tell them “it is written,” which is the way Jesus dealt with such arguments. I do not recommend that you argue about the Bible or engage in mind games or debate the fine points of doctrine with people. Share how you once were blind and now you see; say that you have met Jesus and that you walk and talk with Him daily. Talk about your experience with Jesus, who is the living Word.
