News from CBOQ: Fall 2018 Update

Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.

Galatians 6:9

Fall has always been my favourite season. It represents new beginnings, challenges, new friends and opportunities. Summer, it seems, gives us time for rest and reflection just before the season of diligence, commitment and concentration. After the rest of summer and the memory of repose, fatigue comes quickly as our hands show the signs of our work. Galatians 6:9 reminds us to not grow weary in doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up. The work and ministry of our CBOQ churches provides hope, joy, salvation and community through the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ our Lord and through the hands and feet of you, God’s servants in your community. And yet, many still long for all of those things; and that requires… you guessed it…more work. CBOQ lives by its mission to equip churches with resources and connections that could help to make this work more fruitful. Let us not grow weary. Let us continue to stand with one an-

other and lend a hand when the load seems cumbersome or overbearing. This fall, I’ll be stepping away on sabbatical from CBOQ and I look forward to hearing from you in the coming months all the ways in which you’ve been used to do the great work of God in your town. I’m so grateful for Pastor Wayne Melnechuk from Cheltenham Baptist Church who will be standing in as Acting Executive Minister while I’m away. We’ll celebrate together when I return. Lastly, thank you for your faithfulness in supporting the ministries of your church. As you give in your congregation, the wider community of churches are blessed through the ongoing work of CBOQ. For that I am grateful. May God grant you deep peace and great joy this fall. Tim McCoy Executive Minister, CBOQ

Pastors’ Appreciation Day is October 14! This year, CBOQ is focusing on the Beatitudes. Each month, we’ll be diving deep into one verse, sharing stories, thoughts and devotional content from our Canadian Baptist family and weekly Scripture readings. To join us in the journey, make sure you’re subscribed to The Canadian Baptist at baptist.ca/ enews.

This month, we’re starting with the first one, found in Matthew 5:3:

Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
