User
Bring in 3 Main Elements Tao Yuanming
My project took Mr. Tao as the presumptive owner. Tao is one of the most famous pastoral poet in Chinese history. He was an official in the Eastern Jin Dynasty but was tired of political conflicts in government. He was longing for living in nature but have to stay in the urban area, which is also the problem of a lot of morden people in china. So this garden is aiming to provide him a peaceful place to enjoy nature in the city .

The site is located in Luoyang, where was rich and developed in the Eastern Jin Dynasty. The climate there was moderate so it was suitable for plants to grow. The site is 15m*45m, in the center of the city.

LETTER OF MOTIVATION Dear Sir/Madam, I'm writing this letter with full hope of being a student of AHO in the Master of Landscape Architecture Program. It is usually the case that the deeper one delves into his area of specialty, the more one becomes aware of his inadequacies and the need to learn more advanced knowledge in that area. Now is the right time to go on with my studies, and I think AHO is just the right place for further study. When I was a primary school student, the enormous interest ignited my passion against traditional Chinese painting and calligraphy. Nine years of engagement in such a beautiful area exerted a gradual and uplifting influence on me. Apart from those skills in composing and sketching shapes, the aesthetic experiences are the most valuable acquisition to me. And just because of the love of aesthetics, I chose the major of Landscape Architecture and successfully enrolled in CAUP, Tongji University ranking as top 200 amongst nearly 250000 college entrance exam candidates in Shannxi Province, China. Educated in Tongji University, where there is China’s top architecture and urban planning college, I have developed a keen interest in Landscape Architecture. The undergraduate education in Tongji provides a solid foundation for my professional skills, I have got 2 years’ training in Architecture Design, another 2 year in LA , and also courses in urban planning, which helped me have a comprehensive recognition of these fields. I’ve scored three A (top 10%) and four B in the seven semesters’ design & planning studios, which also reflected my strong academic ability and outstanding self-development. Besides, apart from the professional knowledge, the more important acquisition I’ve got from undergraduate education is about a designer and planner’s professional pursuit — to find the optimized solution to deal with the relationship between human and their surroundings. Every time thinking of what I am doing would change people’s lives or have influence on the development of a certain region, I would be so proud that I am a designer, and I feel the worth of myself. China is booming and the process of urbanization accelerated so rapidly, where planners and designers are playing a significant role in the process. It's quite an honor to be in such a marvelous era that I can contribute to the development of China. However, the step of urbanization brings a number of problems, such as destruction of the environment, the damage of historical context and the cities all becoming the same and lack of features, etc. Although planners one alone cannot execute on such complication, at least a certain range of problems can be solved through our professional efforts. And I dream to become one of the professionals
who deal with those problems by planning and design. Holding this dream, I began my career as a landscape designer and planner in Liu Binyi Landscape Planning and Design Studio, Shanghai, mainly responsible for the project of the Conceptual Planning of Huangsipu Ecological and Cultural Core Area, Zhangjiagang. During that, I gained a lot of practical work experience and refined my professional ability. Despite my satisfying performance, I started feeling encountered with more and more roadblocks due to my lack of certain professional training. Such a giant project has its connection to the humanities, to the culture, to the ecology, to urban development, to the world of business and government. The variety of issues we have to address forces me never to confine myself to current knowledge. It is the very project that hits me by exposing my flaws and shortages. I recognized that it was urgent for me to enhance my skills and capability to be more capable to fulfill my professional ideal, and thus motivate me to take advanced education in LA. An excellent designer and planner should have widened horizon. And to study in an international environment could definitely extend my scope, which is my urgently need. Meanwhile, I am always longing for multicultural education. Therefore to go abroad for further education is my first choice. After thorough consideration, I select AHO, which is a top Architecture and Design institution in Nordic countries, as my expected destination. The two well-setting MLA programs attracts me deeply. The one focused on design gives curriculums on urbanism, which is both what I really interested in and what is required in Chinese urbanization. Meanwhile, the newly opened Tromsø one gives knowledge and skills brand new to me and it fascinates me with its methoeds of research, concern in geology, ecology, sociology, and especially the issues of long-term sustainable land use and historical land rights versus global economy and short-term profit. These are just the problems graveled me in my former working experience which I am so eager to find the answer to. Hence I thin To sum up, I am a young person with an ambition for Landscape Architecture and strong learning ability to confront my challenges in the future. Your favorable consideration of my application will be expected and highly appreciated. Yours sencerely, Bowen Cui
