CHAIRMAN’S MESSAGE
CHAIRMAN’S MESSAGE
There aren’t many gifts more impactful than supporting the education of others and the community as a whole. The donors to the CCBC Foundation are committed to changing lives of individuals, their families, and the entire community through financial support of Community College of Beaver County’s programs and scholarships. I invite you to visit the campus, talk with a scholarship recipient, and see what you have made possible. I guarantee that you will be inspired, motivated, and satisfied when you see how your support has helped. As we prepare for the College’s first Major Gifts Campaign, the Foundation’s Board of Directors is grateful for our growing number of donors. No matter the size or type of gift, all contributions are sincerely appreciated and have enormous impact today and into the future. I want to thank each and every one of you who support higher education and job training through contributions to the CCBC Foundation. CCBC is stronger and more effective thanks to the many generous donations from the community. So, what is next? It’s clear that as we move forward, support from the CCBC Foundation will play an even more crucial role in advancing CCBC’s mission. We need more scholarships that will help change the lives of students and more modern equipment to ensure that our students receive the most relevant learning experiences. These are big dreams, but I know that with friends like you, they are possible. Thank you. Sincerely,
Scott Monit, CCBC Foundation Chairman
OUR COMMITMENT - STUDENT SUCCESS
Edward Latimore, a pre-engineering major, was the recipient of the Fall 2014 Kay O’Conner Rosenlieb scholarship. Edward developed the discipline required for college success through volunteering for Americorps, becoming an amateur boxer, and enlisting in the Army National Guard. He is currently attending CCBC full time with plans of transferring to pursue a degree in Electrical Engineering.
EDWARD
In 2014, the Kay O’Connor Rosenlieb Scholarship was reestablished through the CCBC Foundation by Dr. Rosenlieb’s daughter, Judy Rowley and family, Dan, Jim and Katy Rowley. A previous Director of Nursing at CCBC, Dr. Rosenlieb was a well-known, dedicated nurse who was active in her community and always found time to care for anyone in need.
Madeleine Wiley, a communication major from Ambridge, received two CCBC Foundation Scholarships, the Robert D. Thompson, Jr. Memorial Scholarship and the Ambridge Wolves Club scholarship. Madeleine started her first semester at the College in August 2014. She plans to complete her associate degree at CCBC and then transfer to a 4-year college to obtain a bachelor’s degree in digital media production or multimedia. Established in 2011 by Southern Pines Trucking, the Robert D. Thompson Memorial Scholarship provides assistance to a full-time student who is or has a family member in the trucking industry, or is pursuing a degree around the care and preservation of animals and/or their natural habitat. The Ambridge Wolves Club created their scholarship fund in 2012 to provide students in the Ambridge Area School District with funds to help make earning their degrees more affordable.

OUR COMMITMENT - STUDENT SUCCESS
Nursing student Bridget Wrynn of Aliquippa was the 2014 recipient of the Alice Hirt Scholarship, which is awarded to a second-year nursing student for clinical excellence. Bridget will graduate from the nursing program in May 2015 and will seek work as a critical care or oncology nurse. Eventually, she’d like to earn a master’s degree in nursing in either anesthesia or education.
BRIDGET For the fall 2014 semester, Clinton Tidwell received the Beaver County Housing Authority scholarship, which was created through the CCBC Foundation and provides financial assistance for a non-traditional student who is a resident of the Beaver County Housing Authority. After graduating from CCBC, Clinton plans to continue his education at Franklin University, which is located on the College’s main campus, in order to receive his bachelor’s degree and eventually, his master’s degree. Through an agreement with Franklin University, Clinton will be able to take three years of courses at CCBC and then take his final year of courses at Franklin’s CCBC campus in order to receive his bachelor’s degree in business administration.
For over 20 years, the scholarship has been awarded to a nursing student who is progressing into the second year of the program. Created by the family of former CCBC President Dr. John Hirt (president from August 1968 through May 1972), the scholarship was established in memory of Dr. Hirt’s wife, Alice, who received exceptional care from CCBC nursing students prior to her passing.

OUR COMMITMENT - INDUSTRY PARTNERS
NSF GRANT National Science Foundation (NSF) Grant
Community College of Beaver County received its first National Science Foundation Grant, a three-year award of nearly $200,000, for the project proposal, “SySTEMatic Change through Process Technology.” The project is launching the College’s new Process Technology program with the goal of increasing the number of highly-skilled, well-educated and diverse process technicians in the region. CCBC is now offering a new associate degree in process technology, developing career pathways for middle and high school students and teachers, and offering stackable credentials that can lead to job opportunities in new and growing industries. The program is designed to meet the needs of a variety of industries including chemical, petrochemical, wastewater, energy, and nuclear. Graduates will be able to find jobs not only in the local region but also across the country and the world.
Melissa Denardo, Vice President of Learning and Student Success/Provost; Pradeep Kumar, STEM instructor and grant PI; Hugh Gallagher, Career Coach and grant Co-PI; John Goberish, Dean of Workforce Development & Continuing Education; and Nancy Dickson, Vice President of Community Relations and Development, worked together for 18 months to write and prepare the grant.

National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) Grant
The central theme of this “Bridging Cultures” project will be change and adaption as viewed through the lens of East European cultural studies. Four subthemes will also be explored: Flyer graphic economic adaptation; changing gender roles; cultural differences in changing communities; and values, traditions and social mores. Countries in which a significant number of Beaver County residents had ancestors—including Serbia, Croatia, Slovakia, Poland and Ukraine—will be highlighted as case studies to draw on the interest of CCBC students and instructors in their own family backgrounds. Twenty participants from CCBC’s faculty will be selected to participate in this multisemester project, starting with a series of bimonthly workshops on East European history, cultures and literature held at CCBC and monthly events that will connect the participants with international scholars, Western PA ethnic community leaders, and residents of modern-day Eastern Europe. The program culminates with a Fall 2016 showcase of original course modules that participants will create in collaboration with Pitt faculty, share on the project website, and use in their courses at CCBC.
NEH GRANT
The University of Pittsburgh’s Center for Russian and East European Studies (REES) was awarded a grant through the “Bridging Cultures with Community Colleges” program of the National Endowment for the Humanities. Through this federally funded project, which will run from September 2014 through February 2017, REES is partnering with CCBC to internationalize CCBC’s curriculum by introducing humanities content on Eastern Europe into existing courses and developing a new course on the literature of the region.

Penn State and CCBC Sign Comprehensive Articulation Agreement
Administrators from Penn State University and the Community College of Beaver County (CCBC) have signed a comprehensive agreement to facilitate the transfer of CCBC students into nine baccalaureate degree programs at 14 Penn State campuses, including Penn State Beaver. The agreement became effective in fall 2014 and was announced by Dr. Donna J. Kuga, Penn State Beaver’s interim chancellor, and Dr. Chris Reber, CCBC president. Through the agreements, students who earn their associate degree at CCBC will be provided an academic pathway to transfer into a parallel bachelor’s degree program at Penn State Beaver. The coordination of transferable coursework, supported through academic advising, will facilitate the successful transition for students. CCBC graduates can now apply to enter Penn State Beaver’s Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science in Administration of Justice, Bachelor of Science in Business, Bachelor of Arts in Communications, and Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science in Psychology. In addition, CCBC students may also apply for transfer into four-year degree programs in English; Human Development and Family Studies; and Letters, Arts, and Sciences, which are programs not offered at Penn State Beaver but are available at 13 other Penn State campuses (i.e., Penn State Brandywine, DuBois, Fayette, Greater Allegheny, Hazleton, Lehigh Valley, Mont Alto, New Kensington, Schuylkill, Shenango, Wilkes-Barre, Worthington Scranton, and York). The agreement also allows specific program-to-program articulation for the Bachelor of Science in Organizational Leadership authorized for delivery at Penn State New Kensington by the College of The Liberal Arts, and the RN to Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree, authorized for delivery by the College of Nursing at Penn State Fayette, New Kensington, and Shenango.
