MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT

Dear Members and Friends, What a year it’s been. With 100+ business events and over 12,000 attendees, 2016 has proved to be a year of change, fresh opportunities and great success. FACCI membership has reached a record high, with 8% growth, increased member engagement and an exponentially expanding national presence, specifically the launch of our South Australian Chapter. We have increased our membership base through structured improvements and a unique national membership offer, creating better value for money, more networking opportunities and enabling FACCI to become a greater platform for advocacy. We represent the interests of our members on the French-Australian political scene, playing a key role in the coordination of the official visits of Jean-Yves Le Drian, French Minister for Defence, Jean-Marc Ayrault, French Minister of Foreign Affairs, and the MEDEF International delegation. FACCI gives members a strong voice in prestigious Australian business networks, including the Australian Business Council, the European Australian Business Council, and the CEO Forum. Throughout the year, we have offered greater opportunities for our members to network and engage with federal and state government officials, including Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull, Senator The Hon. Marise Payne, Federal Minister for Defence, State Premiers and Ministers. In light of the landmark signing of the DCNS contract in 2016 and following the success of our second National Co-Innovation Excellence Forum, we have continued to promote innovation and excellence, simultaneously establishing the French-Australian community at the forefront of innovative practice and facilitating targeted industry connections for our members. 2016 also saw the New Caledonia Symposium strengthening bilateral relations between our two countries, FACCI as a proactive member of Team France and increased collaboration with the CCI France International network. Focusing on the year ahead, we look set to deliver on our national strategic objectives of reinforcing our position as a platform for industry connections and expertise, as a focal point for business set-up in Australia and as a national business network with a local touch. FACCI is now recognised not only by French companies, but also by Australian officials and businesses, as one of the premier corporate forums. Finally, I would like to thank all stakeholders for their commitment and contribution and above all, our valued members for their ongoing support and dedication to our Chamber.

2016 HIGHLIGHTS

LNG18 - French collaboration during LNG 2016 was a great success April 2016 - Perth

the strongest representation during the LNG18, which was noted by many visitors and delegates. One of the highlights at our stand was the visit of Patrick Pouyanné, Chairman and CEO of TOTAL, who took the time to meet and to take a photo with us despite his busy schedule. We are very thankful to Mr Pouyanné, as we all enjoyed his visit.

The French Australian Chamber of Commerce and GEP-AFTP partnered for a 350m2 FRANCE Stand at the 18th International Conference & Exhibition on Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG18), from the 11-15 April, at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre. Our FACCI – GEP AFTP collaboration brought together 12 French companies, including 45 delegates from companies

including Aperam, Bureau Veritas, Ceca Arkema, Comeca, Entrepose Contracting, FMC Technologies, GTT, Marlink, Petromod/Logicamms, Ponticelli, SKFS2M, Valco And Vinci Construction. FRANCE was strongly represented during this LNG18 with the additional attendance of TOTAL, ENGIE, TECHNIP and AIR LIQUIDE. Altogether, France had

Looking back on our attendance at the LNG18 and the events we held in parallel, it is clear that the French Australian Chamber of Commerce and GEP-AFTP have a unique partnership which undoubtedly contributed to the event being a success for all parties involved. Tour de France Lunch July 2016 - Melbourne

Christophe Mallet and Gabriel Gate added a touch of competition to the event’s atmosphere with a Grand Quiz on the race, French regions and gastronomy. The three winners received some wonderful prizes offered by our event partners including a Spot in the FDJ Team car during one stage of the 2017 Tour Downunder. Tracey Gaudry & Christophe Mallet

Last year, the French-Australian Chamber was delighted to work in partnership with Emirates, Cycling Australia, SBS and Lapierre who provided a great support to the event. The 2016 Tour de France Lunch was proud to support Charity Partner, Tour de Cure, a cycling association which rides to put an end to cancer. Funds were raised through the Silent Auction to support Tour de Cure in their mission. 12

For the third year, the Lunch was proudly hosted by our Master of Ceremony, Gabriel Gaté who led the peloton of this annual celebration of La Grande Boucle. He was joined by Christophe Mallet from SBS who hosted a very insightful and interesting panel discussion with the kind participation of Tracey Gaudry and Scott McGrory, who have shared their experiences of the race and the Olympics.

FACCI would like to express its gratitude to the partners and sponsors who contributed to the success of this event, in particular to Emirates, our Partners, Cycling Australia and Lapierre, SBS and our event Charity Partner, Tour de Cure. The contributions and involvement of companies and individuals are highly valued.


COP21+1: The implications of the Paris Climate Agreement on Australia’s economy a year on November 2016 - Brisbane

On 11 November, the Chamber was privileged to welcome a host of highprofile speakers to the French-Australian Chamber of Commerce’s sell-out Industry Forum, entitled "COP21+1: the implications of the Paris Climate Agreement on Australia’s economy a year on".

With the Paris Climate Change Agreement entering into force internationally a week earlier, and the Australian parliament ratifying it the day before, this event was designed to check on progress, and look towards what innovations - be they business models, technology or policy - that we need to achieve Australia’s commitments under the Agreement.

Centred around three separate networking opportunities, the agenda was first to set the scene – the scientific consensus suggesting that radical innovations are needed soon – then, though a sustainable industry panel, discussed what specific industries are currently doing, what could be done in the near term, and looked further into the future to what technological innovations could help keep global warming since the industrial revolution to 2 degrees Celsius, targeting 1.5 degrees if possible. The Deputy Premier of Queensland started the second half, noting the Government’s dual commitments to protecting the environment and to growing the economy, and was followed by an advisory panel, focusing on the next stage in policy development to reach Australia’s commitments under the Paris Agreement.

Exclusive Industry Site Visits at Airbus & Thales July 2016 - Brisbane Australia's defence. At Thales' site close by, our group was warmly welcomed by Paul Feighan, Director Services and Support, Protected Vehicles and given a very informative and engaging tour of the site. This included the opportunity to view the inside of a Bushmaster (armoured personnel carrier) and to network with attendees over an informal supper. This visit was supported by our Small Business member, 2M Language Services. Our Queensland Chapter launched its Aerospace, Defence and Aviation Industry series with an invitation-only visit to the premises of Airbus and Thales in Brisbane on Bastille Day. The visit, reserved for our Patron and Corporate members, started with a personal welcome and presentation of Airbus activities by Eduard Schindler, Vice President Finance, IS and Procurement.

Our guests were then given special access to the production line where the MRH90 helicopters are assembled for the Australian Defence Force. Thanks to Malcom Benfer, Vice President Capability, who guided the visit, our group gained exclusive insights into Airbus’ assembly, logistics, flight testing and maintenance work undertaken in Brisbane in support of Annual Report 2016

2016 National Co-Innovation Excellence Forum May 2016 - Sydney

Following the success of the 2015 Edition dedicated to Smart Cities, the 2016 Business Forum focused on CoInnovation, one of today’s key economic drivers.

Australia’s current priority is to embrace new ideas in innovation and science, and harness new sources of growth to deliver the next age of economic prosperity Down Under.

During a full day conference, the 2016 National Co-Innovation Excellence Forum showcased some of the most innovative businesses from the French-Australian bilateral community and demonstrated how their combined talent can provide an ideal partnership to successfully innovate and drive the prosperity of our two countries. France is world-renowned as a pioneer and a major actor in technical progress, and its aim is to further develop passion for sciences and innovation.

This forum provided a great platform for French and Australian companies to share their expertise in innovation and exchange with local partners from the private and public sectors. It brought together officials from government, top innovative Australian and French companies (from Start-ups to major international companies) as well as scientists and researchers to discuss and debate all aspects inherent to a successful innovative process.

partnerships between South Australia and France for decades to come. He said Investment Attraction South Australia was a key player in South Australia’s French Engagement Strategy, which included developing business relationships and opportunities through organisations such as FACCI.

Last December a networking event held to mark the revival of business relationships between South Australia and France attracted about 50 people. It was the first major public event for the South Australian branch of FACCI and was hosted by patron member, Investment Attraction South Australia. FACCI South Australia membership has surged since the announcement earlier this year that French firm, DCNS, had won the $50 billion Future Submarines contract, with the vessels to be built in Adelaide. There are now 30 corporate members of the branch, with a range of small, medium and large French and Australian

businesses across diverse industries. This includes major French firms DCNS, Schneider Electric and Pernod Ricard Winemakers, which supplied the wine for the event. Investment and Trade Minister Martin Hamilton-Smith addressed the gathering and said that France and South Australia had much in common, including a shared transition from traditional to new economies. “We have so much to learn from France about the way it has embraced new technology and innovation,” he said. Mr Hamilton-Smith said the Future Submarines Project would form the foundation for ongoing business

FACCI South Australia President Chris Sharpley said the chamber’s mission was to foster economic and commercial relationships between Australia and France. This included helping French companies to set up here and introducing local businesses to French companies and agencies. He said the state branch had made contact with chambers of commerce and industry in Paris and in Cherbourg, home of the DCNS submarine shipyard, to help identify which French companies were interested in working in South Australia. Mr Sharpley said FACCI had more than 600 national members and held about 100 events. “Our 20 state council members for South Australia are united by a passion to foster French-Australian business relationships,” he said.

Bastille Day French Festival - Melbourne The second edition of the Bastille Day French Festival was a great achievement and successfully showcased the influence of French culture in Victoria. It was held in the heart of Melbourne at the magnificent State Library Victoria. The Bastille Day festival attracted around 12,000 visitors; in a quest for all things French. Spread over two days, the event hosted 30 Stallholders, 14 Conferences, 6 French Films, 10 Live Performances, 3 different Masterclasses, 2 Grand Raffles, 1 Kids Zone and 1 Beauty Treatment Area. This year, the festival focused on the themes of ‘French Explorers in Australia’ and ‘Innovative France’, bringing together a wide range of businesses and organisations, who are all passionate about French culture, history, food, joie de vivre, and innovation. BUSINESS SERVICES

A year of change for FACCI Trade 2016 proved to be an exciting year for FACCI Trade & Business Services. We launched our new Overseas Membership package, organised a customised Trade Event for a special delegation from New Caledonia, assisted numerous companies with company creation and business services, hosted 9 companies in our Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne offices and underwent an internal restructuring to put in place the dedicated, dynamic team we have today. FACCI Trade aims to grow and develop our global network, with particular focus on France, Overseas France and the Asia-Pacific region. We maintain strong working relationships with CCIs across France, attending 6 Trade days in June/July 2016 and look forward to expanding and developing this network further in 2017.

FINANCIAL REPORT

The financial statements at 31 December 2016 have been audited by Mazars Australia (Duncan Dovico Chartered Accountants). 2017 closes with a profit of $24,141 (2015: $661 profit). Total Income for 2016 was $1,404,907 representing a decrease of -10% compared to the previous year. Movements in income categories since the previous year are as follows: • Events: -3% • Membership: +8% • Services: -56% Events represent 47.8% of total revenue, membership 39% and services 13.2%. Expenses decreased to $1,381,766 (-17,3%). It is also worthwhile noting that FACCI generated $271,000 operating cash flow in 2016 (2015: $84,004).
