THE SCHOOL DISTRICT encompasses the cities of Coeur d’Alene, Hayden, Dalton Gardens and unincorporated areas along Lake Coeur d’Alene. Coeur d’Alene Public Schools is an educational leader, promoting opportunities for innovation in learning and inspiring excellence in everyone.

We are guided by our Portrait of a Graduate, which describes who we want our students to become as they conclude their educational journey with us. They should possess skills and traits that cover content knowledge, communication, creativity, critical thinking, collaboration and character. With these areas of emphasis, our students will be prepared for college or other post-secondary education and for 21st century careers. The district serves around 11,000 students in 19 schools: a developmental preschool, 11 elementary schools (grades K-5), three middle schools (6-8), two traditional high schools (9-12), an alternative high school, and a new K-12 magnet school with a project-based learning focus. We also have two elementary magnet schools: Sorensen Magnet School of the Arts and Humanities and Ramsey Magnet School of Science.
We offer full-day kindergarten at all schools, a special needs preschool program (the CDA Early Learning Center) and opportunities at a professional technical high school program, the Kootenai Technical Education Campus in Rathdrum. The district offers Advanced Placement opportunities for high school students, as well as dual enrollment programs with institutions such as the University of Idaho and North Idaho College.
Our graduation rate is above 91 percent, and 79 percent of graduates immediately move on to college or professionaltechnical certification, exceeding state and national averages. Our students perform well above the state average in reading proficiency and for taking advanced coursework. The district places a high priority on technology for staff and students, recognizing that it is a catalyst for teaching and learning.
Our success is attributed to continual improvement in the quality of educational programs, guided by the district’s new strategic plan and our Portrait of a Graduate (www.cdaschools. org/graduate). This is made possible by a supportive community, successful business partnerships, a highly qualified and dedicated staff, and active parent organizations at every school.

OUR CITY BY THE LAKE SERVES AS THE CULTURAL CENTER for Kootenai County's 160,000+ residents. Coeur d'Alene Police and Fire Departments are committed to ensuring that our amazing area is a safe place to live, work, play and visit. Officers and firefighters are an integral part of our community. They are our friends, neighbors, co-workers and nonprofit volunteers. They help us staff our parades and events and assist us in adding decorum to our private and public formal functions. Coeur d'Alene's Police and Fire Departments constitute 62% of the city's overall budget, allocated as part of the general fund.

The Coeur d’Alene Fire Department is a Class 3 rated city by the Idaho Survey and Rating Bureau, which is the highest defense rating for our state. They have been given numerous federal, state and local awards to include Firewise designation, innovation awards from Association of Idaho Cities and customer service awards from local agencies.
The department provides fire, emergency medical first response and transport, and technical rescue services to our residents and visitors. In 2019, CDAFD responded to over 9,000 calls for service, which makes it the second busiest fire department in Idaho. Their four fire stations have a minimum on-shift staffing level of seventeen personnel. Fire Station #1 houses a ladder company, brush truck, paramedic ambulance and Battalion Chief. Station #2 houses an engine company and paramedic ambulance. Station #3 houses an engine/ rescue company and brush truck. CDAFD’s newest addition is Station #4 on Ramsey Road, which houses an engine company.
As members of the Kootenai County Emergency Medical Services System (KCEMSS), CDAFD provides paramedic coverage as well as transport responsibilities to the southern part of Kootenai County. CDAFD offers continuing education as well as a quality assurance program to volunteer ambulance services in their response area. All members are certified to at least the EMT-D level with a majority being certified to the EMT-Intermediate level. Paramedics are on staff at all four stations.

The Coeur d’Alene Police Department consists of 113 full-time employees which include sworn and nonsworn personnel. The department consists of the patrol division, investigations division, traffic unit, Community Action Team, code enforcement, animal control officers, records, evidence, task force personnel, IT, and two K9 officers. Since 2015 the Coeur d’Alene Police Department has reduced Part 1 crimes by 60% using intelligence-led policing strategies combined with a focus on community engagement. This approach has not only strengthened the ties with our community, but it also leads to a reduced fear of crime and a safer community.

CDAPD Foundation’s 2020 Children’s Hospital Toy Drive came to a wonderful conclusion when Foundation members and Police Explorers delivered 64+ boxes of toys and gifts to the Sacred Heart Children’s Hospital.
Maintaining a strong relationship with the community is very important to CDAPD. Nine School Resource Officers (SROs) are assigned to high schools and middle schools. Two are assigned to elementary schools and one is assigned to North Idaho College. During the summer months, the SROs and other officers are assigned to a downtown ambassador program in an effort to increase community engagement and deter criminal activity.
