President’s Welcome
Carol Hamer
It is a pleasure to welcome you all to the 2025 Brass Ring Luncheon & Fashion Show! We are excited to have you here today to celebrate The Guild of the Children’s Diabetes Foundation and benefit the Barbara Davis Center for Diabetes.
Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease in which a person’s pancreas stops producing insulin. The onset has nothing to do with diet or lifestyle, and it can be diagnosed at any age. There is nothing you can do to prevent type 1 diabetes, and for now there is nothing you can do to get rid of it. Your support at today’s event provides state-of-the-art patient support, helps raise awareness and correct stereotypes, and funds critical research for a cure!
I am extremely grateful for the generous
Helping Hand, Helping Little Hands, T1D Strong Day Camps, the Charlotte Tucker Scholarship, and more. These programs would not be possible without you.
I would like to thank the staff at the Children’s Diabetes Foundation for all the time and effort they have put into making today’s event a day to remember! Also, I would like to give many, many thanks to Dana Davis for her friendship, leadership, guidance, and resolute support of The Guild and the type 1 community.
Thank you for being here today as we work towards a cure. “Let’s Make It Happen!”
Sincere Gratitude, Carol Hamer
t1D Changemaker Award
This is the inaugural year for the Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) Changemaker Award to be presented during the Brass Ring Luncheon & Fashion Show. This prestigious award was created to honor an individual who displays incredible dedication and support of The Guild of the Children’s Diabetes Foundation and makes a lasting difference in the type 1 community. Our hope is that T1D Changemakers will continue to be recognized in years to come for driving meaningful change and playing an integral role in the education, support, advocacy, and research that drives The Guild’s mission. This award stands as a symbol of deep gratitude for the dedicated community members whose passions amplify our initiatives, progressing the future of T1D.
TJudy McNeil
he T1D Changemaker Award is presented to Judy McNeil, an extraordinary individual who has dedicated over two decades to volunteering with The Guild of the Children’s Diabetes Foundation and the type 1 diabetes community. Judy has shown unparalleled commitment by not only offering her time, energy, and resources, but by significantly shaping the community through various initiatives. These include chairing the Boo Bash Halloween party, serving as the Historian for The Guild, and spearheading the renowned Brass Ring Luncheon baskets. Judy’s leadership and tireless efforts serve as an inspiring example to shape a stronger, more supportive community for all.
Judy McNeil, a proud Colorado native, grew up in the suburbs of Denver and attended Englewood High School before graduating from the University of Northern Colorado. Early in her career, she worked for the Colorado Department of Agriculture. Judy’s journey took a pivotal turn when she met her husband, Charlie, a student at the Colorado School of Mines. The couple married the day after Charlie’s graduation and navigated five moves within six years before choosing to settle in Colorado, where they could raise their family. Now married for 53 years, Judy and Charlie are blessed with three children and ten grandchildren, all residing in the Denver area.
Judy dedicated herself fully to her family, embracing her role as a stay-at-home mother. She believes that no external
success can outweigh the importance of nurturing a strong home. This choice allowed her to give back to her community with dedication and heart. For over 25 years, Judy has been passionately involved with the Children’s Diabetes Foundation at the Barbara Davis Center for Diabetes, highlighted by her remarkable 18-year tradition of creating the signature auction baskets for the Brass Ring Luncheon. Judy has also played various supportive roles with The Guild of the Children’s Diabetes Foundation, serving as Guild President in 2011 and as the Guild Historian for many years, among others. In recognition of their efforts, she and Charlie were honored with the High Hopes Award at the 2011 Carousel Ball.
Beyond her commitment to the Children’s Diabetes Foundation, Judy has made significant contributions throughout Denver. She served as the 2019 PUSH Gala Chair for the Craig Hospital Foundation and the Western Fantasy Gala Chair the same year. She and Charlie were recognized as the 2023 Humanitarian Award Honorees by Volunteers of America and the 2007 Pillars of the Community Honorees by Arapahoe House. Additionally, the couple was named Cherry Hills Villagers of the Year in 2010. Judy’s community support also extends to the Sewell Child Development Center, the Kempe Foundation for abused children, the Denver Center for the Performing Arts, and the Greater Colorado Council of Scouting America.
Volunteer of the Year Award
Brenda Neyman
The Guild of the Children’s Diabetes Foundation is strengthened by the efforts of its dedicated volunteer members. The 2024 Volunteer of the Year, Brenda Neyman, received this recognition for the integral role she has played in The Guild since 2018. In the last seven years, she has consistently been involved with Jewels for Hope, a dedicated committee that collects pre-loved jewelry and sorts, prices, and prepares donations for a variety of sales throughout the year. Brenda acted as co-chair for nearly three years, helping elevate Jewels for Hope to the second-highest earning Guild program in 2024 with over $68,500 raised. Through many hours of coordinating Jewels for Hope volunteers, sorting and pricing jewelry, coordinating marketing efforts, running their monthly sales, and much more, Brenda plays a key role in the resounding success of this program.
In addition to her Jewels for Hope role, Brenda also acted as The Guild Recording Secretary for two years. She has participated on the Charlotte Tucker Scholarship Selection Committee for the last two years, acting as co-chair of that committee in 2025.

His style is distinct and timeless: lush colors, plunging necklines, and daring slits, inspired by his love for cinema classics like Blade Runner and Marie Antoinette. Today, Bouwer’s connections in Hollywood make him a sought-after style expert and TV personality.
Marc Bouwer has crafted some of pop culture’s most iconic looks, from Whitney Houston’s wedding dress and beaded tour catsuits to Shania Twain’s unforgettable outfits in “That Don’t Impress Me Much” and “Man! I Feel Like a Woman.” His 2004 Oscar gown for Angelina Jolie remains a favorite, even earning a place on André Leon Talley’s list of the best Oscar gowns of all time.

Bouwer’s timeless creations continue to shape pop culture, cementing his legacy in fashion history.
Marc now offers bespoke couture and costume design through his NYC Atelier. For over four decades legendary fashion designer Marc Bouwer has made fashion history on runways and red carpets. The Meaning behind ‘Slover’s heroes’
Dr. Robert Slover had a major impact on pediatric endocrinology and diabetes during his long career. He was known for his compassion and commitment to the highest level of patient care to thousands of patients and families.
He served as a mentor and educator for faculty, fellows, residents and students at the Colorado University Anschutz Medical Campus. His research contributions as a clinical investigator impacted clinical care of diabetes at the international level. Prior to joining the Barbara Davis Center for Diabetes (BDC) in 1994, he contributed 20 years of service in the U.S. Army Medical Corps and retired at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in 1994.
When Dr. Slover joined the BDC, he engaged in clinical care, clinical research, and administrative roles. His clinical research most recently focused on the implementation of diabetes technology and the artificial pancreas to benefit pediatric and young adult patients with type 1 diabetes. He served as the site principal investigator for several studies at the Barbara Davis Center, including pre-pivotal and pivotal trials of hybrid closed loop systems in children as young as 8 years. In addition, he authored over 250 peer-reviewed publications.
From 2011 to 2021, Dr. Slover served as the Director of the Barbara Davis Center Pediatric Clinic and was the first holder of the Wagner Family Chair in Childhood Diabetes. He was a Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Colorado School of Medicine. During his time as director, the division doubled its clinical and research operations.
The impact he had during his career will continue to benefit countless colleagues, trainees, patients and families for many years to come. In honor of Dr. Slover, we have named the Brass Ring Luncheon & Fashion Show patients who walk the runway “Slover ’s Heroes”.
“These children, to me, having seen them the last 45 years of my life, are my heroes.”

How the event Supports Families with t1d
The Brass Ring Luncheon & Fashion Show is more than just an elegant event—it’s a vital fundraiser that helps support The Guild of the Children’s Diabetes Foundation in making a real difference for families affected by type 1 diabetes. Proceeds from this event directly fund essential programs like Helping Hand, which provides financial aid for diabetes supplies and travel expenses, and Holiday Assistance, which brings meals and gifts to families in need. These programs create meaningful opportunities and essential support for those navigating life with type 1 diabetes.
Helping Hand
This program assists families in times of exceptional need. This includes purchasing diabetes supplies, helping with travel expenses to get to appointments, and other supplemental funds as necessary. Proper supplies, education, and care allow a patient to properly manage diabetes and by bettering their care now, their risk for long term complications is much lower.
Helping Little Hands
This program provides financial support for pregnant women with type 1 diabetes to ensure they have the proper technology, supplies, and associated appointment funds to ensure a healthy pregnancy and baby. The program serves at-risk pregnant women who do not have access to Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM) systems and other related resources to improve their diabetes care.
Holiday Assistance
Every year, The Guild of the Children’s Diabetes Foundation provides meal and gift assistance for patients and families at the Barbara Davis Center for Diabetes. Proceeds from this event will be used to assist the nearly 140 families and 375 children in need who apply each year. Often times, this assistance is the difference between families being able to have a meal on the table for the holidays and gifts for the children to enjoy.
Charlotte Tucker Scholarship
Through an application process each year, The Guild grants higher education scholarships to patients of the Barbara Davis Center. With the help of these funds, we have seen students go on to be doctors, nurses, lawyers, hairdressers, and mechanics, to mention a few.
T1D Strong Camps
This 3-day camp is hosted by the Children’s Diabetes Foundation and the Colorado Soccer Foundation. Camp features soccer, arts and crafts, team building, and more!
Boo Bash
Boo Bash is a Halloween celebration specially designed for children aged 2-12 with type 1 diabetes and their families. This fun-filled event provides a safe and inclusive environment where young patients can enjoy the magic of Halloween without worrying about the challenges of managing their diabetes. Boo Bash features costume contests, games, crafts, and treats, ensuring a memorable experience for kids and their loved ones.
