CHAIR Todd Stevens | FASNY Federal Credit Union VICE CHAIR Chris Wheland | City of Troy SECRETARY Erin Glock | First Niagara TREASURER

Thanks to your support, we’re on our way to celebrating the 100th Habitat home built here in Albany and Rensselaer Counties!

PAST CHAIR Al De Salvo

Board members Brian Barker, architecture + David Blackman Kristeena Dalby Lewis Dubuque, NYS Builders Association Jon Finke, Communications and Middleware Technology Steven Krokoff, Albany Policy Department Cheryl Lasher, Capital Region Theological Center JoAnn Morton, South End Neighborhood Association Cindy Pohlmann, NYS Teachers’ Retirement System Harry Rutledge, RUTLEDGE Architecture Ralph Spiller, Northern Rivers Family Services Steve Wilson, CHA Annette Woodside, Northeast Sales and Marketing

Last year alone, 10 hardworking families became first-time homeowners and we started construction on 15 more safe and affordable homes. We launched our ReHabitat program with the goal of eliminating blight by restoring and returning vacant properties to our neighborhoods. We’ve returned a whopping $1.2 million dollars to the local property tax base and invested $2.3 million into the local economy. Globally, we tithed $5,000 to Habitat for Humanity affiliates building around the world. Want to know our secret to success? You. You are the energy behind our vision. You spent over 25,000 hours volunteering with Habitat. Nearly 900 of you opened your wallets to financially support Habitat’s mission. Enough of you donated to and shopped at the ReStore to nearly $750,000 in proceeds to help build more homes. Whether you’ve been with us since the beginning over 25 years ago or you are a new friend, thank you. We’ve built a hundred homes and together, we’ll build hundreds more. In partnership,

Mike Jacobson

TENT-A-THON The fiscal year kicked off with another great year of fundraising at the 20th annual Tent-aThon event! Tent-a-Thon is a fun-filled family camping adventure in partnership with local United Methodist Churches that takes place every summer in Tawasentha Park in Guilderland. Participants camp out for up to four nights to demonstrate their commitment to eliminate substandard housing. Campers are treated to wonderful dinners donated by local restaurants and can participate in evening activities. The 20th annual event in August 2013 helped raise money for the 11th house built by the United Methodist Churches in our area.

NEW BOOKS FOR NEW HOMES For the third year in a row, Habitat partnered with the Albany City Area Reading Council, the Book House of Stuyvesant Plaza and the Albany Public Library to provide new books to Habitat homeowners. The New Books for New Homes initiative engages the community to provide hardworking future Habitat homeowners with new books and a springboard for a lifetime of reading and learning. During the holiday season, books were purchased and collected at the Book House of Stuyvesant Plaza for our families moving into Fox Hollow and Sheridan Hollow. The donation of new, age-appropriate books and library information to Habitat homeowners further reinforces the positive impact that a safe, stable home has on educational attainment and success.

A NIGHT OUT WITH HABITAT Our first ever ungala-gala, “A Night Out With Habitat’ was a huge success! On May 16, 2014 The Palace Theatre was attended by over 150 Habitat supporters, including Albany Mayor Kathy Sheehan, New York State Assemblyman John McDonald III, and County Legislator Frank Commisso, our generous donors, new friends and many Habitat families.

WELCOME HOME!

The night was capped off by the premier of Hope Defined, a documentary short produced by Aurora Studios that transported guests into the lives of one very special Habitat family. Through the eyes of the Ufomba family, guests witnessed the challenges that many lower-income households face within the Capital District. It was a very special night for Habitat.

This year, 10 new Habitat families received their very own custom-made stitch sampler as part of our housewarming package. Each gift is hand-stitched and generously donated by members of the NY Capital District Chapter of the Embroiderers’ Guild of America, who have been donating samplers to Habitat families for many years. Above: New Habitat homeowner, Ray Turner, receives his personalized embroidered sampler. At Far Left: A group of long-time Tent-a-Thon campers gather around for another great meal! At Right: Partygoers, including Albany mayor, Kathy Sheehan, posing for the camera at the Palace Theatre.

he end of Fiscal Year 13-14 marked one year since we moved the ReStore to 70 Fuller Road, and what a year it has been! Moving our home improvement resale store from 454 North Pearl Street to 70 Fuller Road gave us double the inventory space allowing us to showcase even more great products. The new location also has more accessible parking, making donating and shopping easier and more convenient! The ReStore recorded three-quarters of a million dollars in sales this year, with 15,983 transactions – the majority of our revenue coming from furniture, kitchen cabinets and appliances. Donations have gone up as well, giving us an even greater amount of quality items for resale. We also opened our new home goods boutique, located in its own section of the ReStore. The boutique is stocked with all sorts of great gems, including decorative home items, antiques,

estate jewelry, high quality books, framed art, flatware, toys, furniture and many other unique vintage items. Name it, and we probably have it! All of this excitement and growth has created an overwhelming demand for longer store hours, so we are now open 6 days a week! You can stop by the store Monday-Friday from 10am-6pm and Saturday from 10am-5pm.
