Greater Control, Maximum Flexibility The Global Campus model was designed to meet university faculty and advisor needs by establishing greater control of curriculum and educational space abroad. We work with university faculty to design courses that fit your institutional goals, and continually assess our programs via direct feedback from the universities we serve. Our campus locations are selected for ease of access to the local community, both its historic and contemporary culture, and equipped with the technology students require today for academic success. The Global Campus model is characterized by: • Engagement with the local community through academic partnerships, shared programming, and service initiatives

CEA’s Curriculum The wide-ranging curriculum at CEA’s Global Campus in Paris is designed for students from many different majors: art, history, architecture, political science, communication studies and French. Active Learning Close-Up Students studying in the History of Paris: An Architectural Perspective course see history by way of Paris’ architectural heritage. By studying monuments from medieval Vincennes to the modern day La Defense, students can examine in person how the city of Paris has evolved over the centuries and how its architecture reflects its history and its people. Faculty also take students to the Palais Garnier, Paris’ oldest standing opera house, and walking them through a typical night at the opera. Students discuss their observations, thereby incorporating their real-life experience with the course’s objectives. This course also offers students access to other restricted architectural sites under renovation so that they may gain a greater appreciation of how Paris has evolved with time all while embracing its rich past.

CEA Leadership in Paris Your Partners in Education Scott G. Blair, PhD
Paris Academic Dean
Dr. Scott Blair has 20 years of experience as an instructor, speaker, writer and university administrator, having been affiliated with both French and American University programs in Paris, and with numerous community college study abroad programs from across the U.S. He has extensive teaching experience in European History, Modern Diplomacy and 20th Century International Relations. Born at Guantanamo Bay and raised in the Midwest, his interest in international education began when he was a study abroad student himself in Luxembourg and Paris. He continued his studies in Washington, D.C., and then moved back to Paris for postgraduate research, which led to a career in international education. Dr. Blair holds his doctorate in History from the Université de Paris Panthéon-Sorbonne (France), an MA in European History from Georgetown University (Washington, D.C.), and a BA in English from Miami University of Oxford, (OH). Alexandra Mitchell
Paris Campus Director Alexandra Mitchell was drawn to becoming a professional in the field of study abroad following her extensive first-hand experience as a student abroad: an initial travel program in Western Europe as a high school student led to two university programs as an undergraduate in Florence, Italy, and Caen, France. As a graduate student, she chose to integrate directly into the French university system. There she received a D.E.A. (Diplôme d’Etudes Approfondies) from the Université de Paris-IV Sorbonne (France) in Art History, after receiving her MA in Art History at the same institution. Before relocating to Paris, Alexandra had completed a BA in French and Art History at Washington University in St. Louis (MO). Alexandra.Mitchell@GoWithCEA.com

Faculty Snapshot: Your Local Colleagues
CEA’s Connections to the City Opportunities for class excursions and student research projects are provided by key connections to local organizations and institutions, including: • Partnership with the Centre Iris photography center that provides students with laboratory space and utilizes our Global Campus facility for itinerant photography expositions • Access to the Georges Rech fashion workshop, where students see how designs are brought to life • UNESCO (United Nations Education, Scientific and Cultural Organization) where students interact with experts about issues in human rights • In addition, students may choose to enroll in one of four unique hybrid programs through the Global Campus and local Partner institutions, including the Université de Paris IV – Cours de Civilisation Française de la Sorbonne and Catholic University of Paris.
Dr. Linnéa Tilly (Doctorate, Université de Paris IV – la Sorbonne) teaches History of Paris: An Architectural Perspective. Dr. Tilly emphasizes the importance of active learning in her course by marrying the historical-theoretical aspects of Paris architecture to authentic, existing sites in Paris. Once her students have mastered the historical significance of Paris as a fortified, medieval city, they observe and sketch the civil and military architecture of the Château de Vincennes. Dr. Tilly also challenges the notion of Paris as a museum-city by emphasizing new urban concepts of the city through fieldwork at Bercy and the business district of La Défense. Dr. Tilly’s interest in architecture has led her to publish and present extensively. Most recently she presented a paper on the maison ordinaire at the Centre A. Chastel/Institut National d’Histoire de l’Art (INHA) international meeting and is an active member of the research center, Centre d’Histoire des Techniques et de l’environnement/ Conservatoire National des Arts et Métiers (CDHTE/ CNAM). Her most current book project focuses on the influence of French architectural models in Sweden in the 18th century.
