Town House L I N C O L N PA R K , C H I C A G O Located on a prime real estate street in Chicago, the town houses surrounding the site were all traditional with various identities and ornament. This project was primarily sketchbook based.

Later drafted plans and sections were produced with the computer program AutoCAD as an additonal step after the sketchbook.

Before designing the kitchen, I looked at the sequence of events that occur with the person. This included the relationship between the kitchen and dining, the work triangle which optimizes efficiency, lighting, as well as storage for things used frequenty versess not.

Mini Urban Block GRAND RAPIDS, MICHIGAN “Automobiles are often conveniently tagged as the villains responsible for the ills of cities and the disappointments and futilities of city planning. But the destructive effect of automobiles are much less a cause than a symptom of our incompetence at city building.” —Jane Jacobs, The Death and Life of Great American Cities

The proposed design for the “Mini Urban Block, is not based on the typical design for a dealership. It is a pedestrian and customer friendly design that invites and allows people to feel free to walk in and take a look and a design which acts as a display for both the pedestrian and the car. Though a car dealership is car-based type of facility, the design can be human based. This project included a hotel and several retail towards the inner streets.

“The Harbor has great potential! The cities, Benton Harbor and St. Joesph, share a long history of political, economical and racial differences, while also sharing the St. Joseph river and Harbor situated within. The Harbor is active, often frequented by the shipping industry of Lake Michigan, as well as, freighters, anglers, yachts and harbor view restaurants. Yet, a journey across the Bicentennial Bridge, further into Benton Harbor, reveals acres of waterfront opportunities. This led the City of Benton Harbor to create a stakeholder steering committee of diverse private and public leaders representing the two cities.

The committee commissioned this study, a four-month process, led by the Graduate Urban Design Studio of Andrews University’s School of Architecture and the Southwest Michigan Planning Group. The purpose of this study was not to generate a single solution-master plan, but to offer data analysis on different issues regarding the study area in conbination with illustrative concepts.

Existing View My role, as patr of the Urban Design Studio team, focoused on the study of stormwater and watershed management, shoreline and wetland restoration and also the redevelopmentment of the areas surrounding the Courthouse area. By the end of the four-month process, a book was completed and several hundred copies were printed and distributed to the public.
