Q. It is an honor to interview you please tell everyone who Mya is?
A. Thank you for having me, I am so thankful! I am 15-year-old Mya Xeller from CT. I have held many National Titles and am the Current Miss Teen World America Connecticut & was 1st Runner Up at Miss Teen World America in Las Vegas this past October. I have modeled NYFW with many designers & recently starred in a music video for upcoming recording artist Peter Cestaro. I have also appeared as a National Cover Model & print model for various magazines. Along with my pageant & modeling career, I am also a singer and dancer and have performed at big venues including Citifield. My face can be seen on social media advertisements for various pageants, makeup artists and photographers. This past February during NYFW I appeared on a billboard in Times Square for fashion line House of Barretti and shoe designer Marc Defang. I also have been filming for a new reality tv show Next Big Thing coming to Amazon!
Q. Who or what inspired you to be a singer?
A. I always wanted to sing, and a goal of mine has always been to hear myself on the radio or perform in front of a huge crowd, but I was always scared to sing in front of others. My mom who has a beautiful voice of her own, pushed me to get into voice lessons and helped me see the talent I had in which I soon realized I was ready to share with others!
Q. Tell us about “The Next Big Thing NYC”?
A. Next Big Thing NYC is a Doc- useries that follows 8 teens on their quest to international stardom. In the show my modeling and pageant career is followed, seeing what I am doing to make it to the top. Alongside me are 7 other amazing teens working different careers, we have a rapper, R&B artist, makeup artist, actor, entrepreneur, DJ, and ice skater. Not only does the show focus on our careers but also the behind the scenes when it comes to relationships, arguments, friendships and a whole lot of drama!
Q. What is your favorite movie or T.V show?
A. While we’re in quarantine and I’ve had some extra down time, I watched Outer Banks on Netflix and let me tell you, it is my FAVORITE show of all time now! I’m anxiously waiting for a second season to come out!
Q. What advice can you give others that want to be a model?
A. My advice for other people that want to break into modeling or pageants is to keep your head high and know your worth. In this industry, there is a lot of competition and you are guaranteed to be turned down for some things, but don’t give up! Keep your head high and know that you are amazing, and it just wasn’t your time yet.
Q. What are some of your other hobbies?
A. Along with modeling, singing, being a pageant queen, and landing a spot on a new reality show, I am a full-time high school student who dances competitively and spends lots of time working hard in the dance studio!
Q. Tell us about Miss Teen World CT and the experience you had?
A. I have an amazing pageant coach who got me prepared going into my state pageant and of course guided me on my journey to nationals, along with my amazing state director! When I won Miss Teen World America CT, I knew I wanted to use that platform to be a leader that all people could look up to, and admire for who I am in the inside and what I have to offer in this world! I feel truly blessed that I have been given
the opportunity/ platform to be that role model for young girls and even women older than me. It really is a feeling of love, gratefulness, and pride. This is the exact reason why I always say a crown isn’t JUST a crown, it’s so much more.
Q. What is one of your greatest accomplishments?
A. One of my greatest accomplishments is winning Miss Teen World America CT and using that title to do amazing things, which landed me first runner up in Vegas for Miss Teen World America!
Q. Where do you see yourself in the next 5 years?
A. In five years from now, I see myself living my life to the fullest, traveling the world, experiencing super cool things and maybe with a soulmate! Career wise, I see my modeling career in full swing, and I see myself in the tv/movie industry.
