Q. Tell everyone who you are and what you do.
A. My name is Ebony Jowharah Karim. I am the CEO and Founder of Embarkus Solutions, a womanowned small business consulting firm located in northern Virginia, specializing in providing subject matter expertise in government program and project management, contracts management, business development and Acquisitions.
Q. How would you define your purpose in life?
A. My purpose is to create opportunities that support urban professional women as they cultivate and develop their entrepreneurial skills.
Q. Let’s talk about “Embarkus Umbrella” and the motivation behind the brand?
A. My motivation behind creating the Embarkus brand was to create an opportunity for me to create generational wealth for my family and also empower other women to become entrepreneurs.
Q. How has your experience been partnering with Bowie State University in Maryland?
A. My experience partnering with Bowie State has been an amazing and humbling experience. I was initially brought onboard to serve solely as a consultant under another firm and ended up developing my own relationship with the university. Being a part of a HBCU provides many benefits, some of those being a diverse and welcoming student body, a supportive campus environment, a unique learning experience and being a member of a community.
Q. What has been your biggest accomplishment you’ve received in your life?
A. My biggest accomplishment to date has been affording my family the opportunity to grow beyond boundaries that I didn’t have a chance to experience as a child. My ability to create my own pathway to success has enabled my family to see that anything is possible.
Q. Tell us of some of the programs you offer with your business?
A. Embarkus provides extensive professional services support in two (2) across two major verticals: 1). Public and Private sectors: providing full life-cycle program and project management consulting services to the small and medium-sized government contractors and federal agencies and 2) providing extensive business consulting services to small businesses looking to become federal contractors.
Q. What is one fun fact about yourself?
A. One fun fact about myself is that I am a former musician- Viola player.
Q. If you can go anywhere in the world, where would you go?
A. South Africa! I’ve always wanted to visit Victoria Falls and some of the amazing wineries.
Q. Are you working on any projects for 2022?
A. For 2022- we will continue to expand the Embarkus brand with our non-profit, The Embarkus Project which provides STEM education to urban communities K-12.
