light the night

September 23, 2017- LIT LIT LIT! For the first event of the school year, Fountain Valley KIWIN’S volunteered at Light the Night. There were shifts from 9 am-1 pm and 3 pm-8 pm. Members set up lanterns, moved moxes, built flags, held up signs, and worked booths. Towards the end, members were able to walk through Angels Stadium and participate in the marathon itself. 41 members attended, giving the club almost 300 hours from this event alone, making the first event of the year a huge success. 3

color run October 7, 2017- On this bright

and early Saturday morning, Fountain Valley KIWIN’S gathered at Huntington Beach to volunteer for the Color Run. Members were split up into groups all throughout the marathon. They were assigned to throw color at the runners, help set up the event, and help with the registration process. They were also able to pass out water to the runners and cheer them on. One of the club’s most successful events, 47 members attended with a total of 283.5 hours. Not only did the members have fun, FV KIWIN’S was also able to work with FV Key Club, Marina Key Club, and Edison KIWIN’S, making the bond between Key Club International branches stronger.

yof soccer tournament September 30, 2017- From 7:45 am

to 5 pm, FV KIWIN’S volunteered for an AYSO soccer torunament hosted by FV’s own vice president Calvin Tran. Tran had applied for the Youth Opportunities Fund (YOF) grant the previous year, and was accepted. After, Tran had to organize the whole event from making teams to providing snacks. Volunteers set up tables registering soccer groups, passed out medals, set up, tore down, cheered on the soccer players, and passed out food and water to the players. There was also a raffle where all proceeds went to the AYSO special needs soccer group to keep it alive.

JOINT CLUB EVENTS

One big goal of FV KIWIN’S this year was to make connections with other clubs and have joint events in order to build stronger relationships. Not only was this done throughout the division, it was also done within our own school.

Fountain Valley KIWIN’S ambition to always be active and over-the-top has resulted in the club it is today. You can expect to have at least one event every weekend, and even up to three different events in one day. Some might think to slow down a bitduring school breaks, but FV KIWIN’S knows that that’s the time to go even harder. Service event after service event, this year has shown exceptional improvement from previous ones. Meeting or surpassing the hours achieved every month from last term proves that there are no limits to these Barons.

fundraising Since the beginning of the term, Fountain Valley KIWIN’S has took it upon themselves to emphasize a new focus for the club: raising money for Key Club International preferred charities, which include Children Miracle Network Hosptal, March of Dimes, UNICEF, and the Thirst Project. Not only has Fountain Valley raised an amount of $323 dollars for these charities by October, they also surpassed their original goal of $150 by more than two times. In fact, all charity goals placed at the beginning of term have been reached by October- only half way through the term!
