Division 24S Newsletter August 2016

1

August 2016 Hello Division 24S! I hope you all had a great time basking in the summertime, but sadly, that must end. Good thing for us is that we have regular Key Club meetings and more Key Club acitvities to come! Time to put all of our heads together and make this second Key Club quarter even more successful than the first. Let’s use this month to meet and solve any problems.: I will be having a Divisional Council Meeting in which I honestly expect 3/5ths or more of officers from each club to attend. This DCM is very crucial for starting the school year successfully. The DCM is at Twin Oaks Branch Library 1800 S. Fifth St., Austin, TX, 78704 from 10:30-12:00 or so. Additionally, the Region 11 Fall Training Conference will be on September 24, 2016. Location & more specifics will be sent out soon, so be on the lookout because we want to see both officers and members there! Yours in Service,

Cecilia Vega

Lieutenant Governor of Division 24S Of Texas-Oklahoma Key Club

Recruitment & Dues time! Hey Division 24S! The 2016-2017 school year is coming up quickly, but more importantly, so is the beginning of new Key Club members joining clubs! The T-O Membership and General Public Relations committees have put together a Membership Recruitment Package which includes the following: benefits of Key Club, brand guide overview, how-to publicize your club, Key Club acronyms, recruitment tips, and tips especially for freshmen. This is a great resource to start your new Key Club year off strong. They can be used for the officer’s gain, but also can be used in meetings for activities and to inform members about Key Club in general. The package will be attached to an email I will send out soon & also be available in the Club Resources tab online. Keep these dates in mind for dues: October 1st- Early Bird deadline November 1st- Regular deadline Febreuary 1st- Last chance before clubs get suspended More detailed info coming soon! 6

YOF The Youth Opportunities Fund (YOF) is an endowed fund for Key Club International held within the Kiwanis International Foundation. This fund uses earned interest to help Key Clubs and Key Club members serve the world by providing grants for service opportunities. The Youth Opportunities Fund is established through gifts to the G. Harold Martin Fellowships. YOF grants can help you take action. Look around and identify the things that need to get done in your school, community or world. The basics you need to know:

- YOF grants are given only to Key Clubs and/or club members. - There is only one funding cycle for the Youth Opportunities Fund. The application must be received by October 15 at 11:59 PM EST. - Clubs may request funding assistance ranging anywhere from US$100 to US$2,000. The committee typically funds those clubs who are asking for a portion of the total cost of the project, and clubs who are working with other organizations to fund and complete the project. There is one funding cycle for YOF grants per year. Applications received by October 15 at 11:59 PM EST are reviewed by the Key Club International YOF committee at their November meeting. Funding notifications are mailed no later than January first each year. - Applicants must use the current YOF grant application. Previous years’ applications will not be accepted. - Guidelines for filing the application are also listed in the Key Club Guidebook under Board Policies. - Applications must be received by October 15 at 11:59 PM EST and can be mailed to: Kiwanis International Attn: YOF Application/Amanda Spice 3636 Woodview Trace Indianapolis, IN 46268-3196, USA

COCI What is the COCI? It’s the Club Officer Contact Information! It’s super important. This is so I and future LTGs can easily contact you. If you are unsure of how to update the COCI, please consult our Regional Advisor and T-O District Administrator Walt Roetter at administrator@tokeyclub.com.

Governor's Project

As mentioned in the Governor’s greeting in my first newsletter, the 2016-2017 Governor’s Project is the American Cancer Society. Any project you do for awareness or a fundraiser for the ACS will count for this project and you’ll be eligible for a patch at the end of the year by turning in a completion form. Here are some suggestions for completing this project: - Volunteer at the ACS Bark For Life - Volunteer at a ACS Relay for Life - Hold a fundraiser & donate proceeeds to ACS - Contact an ACS representative to talk to your club about how you can get involved in other ways! 11

INTRODUCING... YOUR NEWLY APPOINTED...

District Editor: Sophia Tran Howdy T-O! Key Club is the very best… like no one ever was. Even then, we cannot fully comprehend the boundless opportunities that the community has to offer. As volunteers, we get a taste of the imponderable wonders that make the world what and who it is. We, who make caring our way of life, paint a canvas full of service that allows us to color smiles. Cheesy, yes, I know, but cheesy is who I am. Hi! I am Sophia Tran, the 2016-2017 T-O District Editor. Currently, I go to North Garland High School and was their Past President. I am a Key Club addict (obviously) who has also a liking into: anime, desserts, books, puns, and animals! If there is ever a time in your year of service where you wanted to roll myself like a burrito in a blanket and wiggle under the bed and never leave, feel free to contact me to help get you unrolled! Because then there were moments where we could sit there and just smile. These random smiling moments of life are when I remember what we, as a Key Club family, can do . These random smiling moments will make it worth it and unroll all of us from the burrito induced self. I hope that I will be able to help your club to be where they want to be. Feel free to contact me! I am here for any questions you may have or if you just want to talk so shoot me an email at SophiaTran.KC@gmail.com. Without further ado, with Key Club, I hope to get to know y’all in the world that has started to take on more color. As the great Mozart once said, “Go on a journey.” We will have no idea what lies ahead. But... Key Club got me to take my first steps and I’ll help you with yours. We still in the middle of our journey, so let’s travel T-Ogether! Every challenge along the way… With courage we will face. We will care everyday to claim our rightful place. Come with me. The time is right. There’s no better team. Arm in arm we’ll serve! It’s always been our way of life! Yours in Service,

Sophia Tran 2016-2017 District Editor

of Texas-Oklahoma Key Club
