Mr. Eduardo Sacriste c/o Euuardo F. Catalano Schanning Circle Cambridge 38, Mass. Oear Eduardo: When year,
wrote to you earlier asking you to come teach for this I had two purposes in mind:
,. Having high regard for you as a teacher and critic, I think you are most valuable when you can be with students over an extended period of time to develop your point of view through careful Iy pre-determined steps. 2. This was the only means I had of offering you something with uso We had money for the fui I-year position - but very little for visiting critics. Last year 1 had arranged to have Gi Ibert Switzer, Percival Goodman, Ulrich Franzen and Charles Moore come as visitors this year. We have also had a visit from Candela. This devastates our budget for this purpose. I do not even see a $100 surplus this year. The President has been most concerned about deficit financing in the University and has made it clear that he w i 1I no t apprové any budget "adjus tmerrt s'", "
Ai" any rate,: I hope you w i 1I stop in New Or Ieans as you know that Maxine and 1 and al 1 your friends here want to see you. By comparison with your adventures, Maxine's and my modest trip to Francecould hand Iy excite you but we would like to tel I you about it anyway. Clemmer¡ as you probably know, spent eight weeks in Colombia, He says they are expecting you.
With best wishes and with the hope that we wl II see you soon, Sincerely,
:F~ an
