SINGAPORE – NUS, NATIONAL UNIVERSITY OF SINGAPORE

NUS Business School has a Career Services Office (here) that provides a limited selection of careerrelated services for incoming CEMS students. Students will be briefed by an assigned career counsellor from the Career Services Office at the start of the semester.

Legislation:

Employers who wish to engage foreign students as interns or full-time hires will have to apply for the appropriate work passes for them. Each application will be accessed on its merits, subject to prevailing work pass criteria and approval by the Controller of Work Passes.

Typically, most firms are open to hiring interns across all nationalities, as long as the candidate concerned is eligible to work in Singapore.

For graduates:

Employers who wish to hire foreign students who have completed their studies with their respective schools/institutions should apply for appropriate work passes on their behalf. Each application will be accessed on its merits, subject to the prevailing work pass criteria and approval by the Controller of Work Passes.

SOUTH AFRICA – UCT GSB, UNIVERSITY OF CAPE TOWN

School support:

The UCT GSB has a dedicated Career Leadership Centre (CLC) offering students individualised and expert career leadership and development support, to equip them to develop the confidence and tools to manage their lifelong career journey. Some examples are practical assistance with preparation for the corporate recruitment process, personal brand profiling, CV and LinkedIn profile writing, telephone/video/case/face-to-face interviews and networking opportunities. CEMS MIM students will also have the opportunity to participate in the UCT Internship Expo and many other Careers events held annualy. Students can access more information on these services here.

Legislation:

Securing an internship in SA is not easy for foreign students due to complex legislation procedures and rules. Students willing to find an internship in South Africa should address any questions directly to the UCT GSB Careers Office, which will provide as much help as possible.

• Under South African Law, internships are reserved for South African graduates under the laws governing the Nationals Skills Development Framework and Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment (BBBEE)

• Under the current visa regulations, for any foreign national travelling to South Africa to pursue an internship, it is necessary to obtain a standard or general work permit.

Requested documents: Documents are provided in line with the requirements of an application for a South African standard or general work permit or Critical Skills Visa.

Company support:

• South African Multinationals comply with SA Employment law which permits the hiring of foreign nationals under the category of critical skills permits or visas.

• Corporates generally sponsor visa’s under the criteria of critical skills which include a completed masters qualification and a minimum of 5-years of technical and/or professional work experience.
