The Global Alliance in Management Education Founded in 1988, CEMS is a global alliance of academic, corporate and social institutions dedicated to educating and preparing future generations of business leaders. From faculty cooperation to multinational corporate and social partner involvement in the curriculum, the centrepiece of CEMS is its Master’s in International Management (MIM) programme. The CEMS MIM is a pre-experience postgraduate degree open to students enrolled in a Master’s in Management programme at one of the CEMS member schools.

Foreword
by Professor Thomas Bieger CEMS Chairman and President of the University of St. Gallen
Beyond the global alliance In the late 1980s, a new standard in Pan-European Management education was established through the creation of the Community of European Management Schools (CEMS). In the 2000s, CEMS reached beyond its European borders to become a truly global network by adding 12 schools on 4 continents and introducing the CEMS MIM. This all resulted in the CEMS MIM achieving a numberone world ranking by the Financial Times. However, past glories are not sufficient for an organisation with a strong collective ambition to positively impact the way business is done in the future.
be emphasising values such as integrity in its selection process, committing graduates of the CEMS MIM to these values through the signing of the Global Values Statement at graduation, or adding Social Partners to the collective voice of the alliance, CEMS has increased its commitment to instilling empathy and a sense of responsibility in tomorrow’s business leaders at all levels. CEMS doesn’t just “teach” these values, it aims to influence graduates of the programme to live them, based upon the invaluable learning experience gained from the academic, corporate and social institutions that co-deliver the CEMS MIM. Therefore it is by addressing issues of relevance for society and business that CEMS strives to remain on the forefront of Management education.
Confronted with major shifts in the business world and economic environment in the late 2000s, CEMS was faced with a major challenge: how to promote responsible behaviour within a Management education organisation? Whether it

Quality Assurance
// A national leader in the pre-experience Master’s in Management segment with an international scope // Faculty with a proven teaching and research profile // Proximity to multinational companies and/or corporations with an international scope // The ability to support students in building a global business career // Offering a flagship home M.Sc. degree to top multilingual students, with courses in English
A comprehensive, independent quality control of MIM delivery takes place every academic year, which is a unique feature of international student mobility programmes.
Faculty and Ph.D. collaboration
Member schools have full academic responsibility for delivery of the CEMS MIM in respect of their local and national system, allowing students to gain a real understanding of the local cultures. CEMS membership enables schools to leverage a global network and add to their portfolio a Master’s degree that will offer their students a solid foundation for a global business career.
The Research and Doctoral Education Committee strengthens knowledge sharing through Faculty research, encouraging and fostering Ph.D. student and faculty mobility. CEMS Faculty Groups ensure that the research potential of member schools is leveraged by enabling and strengthening research-based teaching partnerships across the network. Faculty Groups contribute on two levels: // Serving as platforms for the development of CEMS-specific course and teaching elements
“CEMS creates a culturally diverse and dynamic environment for creative global leadership. I am amazed by the enthusiasm of the CEMS community to constantly push the forefront of innovative learning methods to prepare students with multi-cultural and international management exposures for global citizenship.” Professor Masa Inakage Dean, Graduate School of Media Design Keio University
“From the day we were invited to apply for membership to CEMS, to today as the first non-European school to win the ‘School of the Year’ award, Ivey has benefited from the collegiality, innovation and collaboration of this prestigious alliance. CEMS is an exceptional platform for bridging academia and global leadership.” Carol Stephenson Dean Ivey Business School

The Social Partner profile
Corporate Partners are leaders in their field, and they see the mutual benefits in participating in the CEMS MIM programme. A typical Corporate Partner is: // A global company, multinational corporation or large company with strong international scope // Committed to the development of management education and attracted by the CEMS student and graduate profile // Willing and able to contribute to the CEMS alliance, from student selection and governance to curriculum delivery and recruitment
Corporate Partners are an integral part of the CEMS alliance, giving them a host of opportunities: // Direct involvement in a curriculum delivered simultaneously on 28 campuses around the world // The Career Forum and Virtual Career Fair, online job portal and student CV search tool offer a one-stop connection to a worldwide student and alumni network // Brand visibility ensured via CEMS communication channels and student events // A global gateway to a highly diverse and quality-tested pool of potential recruits // A unique knowledge-sharing platform, via networking and benchmarking with professionals from fellow corporate partners
Social Partners have been an integral part of CEMS since late-2010 and are here to make an impact – on the curriculum, the alliance and the thinking of the next generation of business leaders. Social Partners should have an international scope and have an interest in positively influencing business schools and students.
“CEMS opens avenues for collaboration with a worldwide market – CEMS students, alumni, member schools and corporate partners truly span the globe.” Audrey Clegg Group Vice President, Head of Talent Management ABB

CEMS alumni are successful business professionals working in a range of sectors. They share the ability to adapt to a constantly changing marketplace. This has been recognised by the Financial Times via a permanent top 5 position for international mobility since the Masters in Management ranking began in 2005. The natural intellectual and cultural curiosity nurtured during the CEMS year and translated into the early stages of their career is carried forward later in working life to form an enviable alumni network in professional and geographical scope. The opportunities provided by this network underline the crucial role that alumni play in carrying the CEMS experience many years beyond graduation.
“The CEMS alumni network has always worked very well. Even today, you can just call up somebody and tell him/her that you are also CEMS and doors will open and a direct relationship will begin.” Andrea Castronovo CEMS 1990 (Bocconi-HEC) President, Central and Eastern Europe BMW Group
