Meeting…
Florence Van Hecke (CEMS Graduate 2010, Joined P&G in Brussels in Jan 2011)
Q: Hi Florence, thank you for accepting our invitation! First of all we’d like to get to know you better – could you briefly introduce yourself, telling us more about your academic and CEMS background? A: Hello! I studied business administration in Belgium. During my master I specialized in Supply Chain Management and was selected for the CEMS MIM program. I did my exchange at LSE. I have been president of the Belgian CEMS Club and I am currently vice president of the Belgian Alumni Committee. Q: Out of all CEMS corporate partners, why did you choose to work for P&G and the Purchasing function? A: Among all corporate partners I was interested to apply at, P&G was the only one offering entre level positions in Purchasing. I knew I wanted to start as a buyer managing its own spend pool and P&G was the only one giving me this opportunity. Q: How is working at P&G different from e.g. previous internships or summer jobs? A: At P&G you get responsibilities as of day one! You are assigned to a desk and people expect from you to become the expert. Straight away you realize how your work adds value to the company. Q: P&G Purchasing Managers buy anything from marketing agency services to natural ingredients or even finished products –what are you buying? A: I am buying transport for raw & packaging materials as well as intermediates in Western Europe and part of Central & Eastern Europe. I get to know more and more about trucks and tankcontainers! Q: Does your CEMS background help you master your job at P&G? A: It does every day. First, CEMS developed my intercultural communication skills. At P&G I need those as I am constantly dealing with colleagues, customers and suppliers from diverse cultures. Second, CEMS strengthened my leadership capabilities which are essential at P&G. Q: If you could give one piece of advice to CEMSies interested to work at P&G, what would it be? A: It is good to be confident about your strengths and capabilities. CEMS is about achievement, critical thinking, leadership, challenges … and that is all what P&G is looking for.
