What is a Peregrine Falcon A Peregrine falcon is an amazing animal because it can dive at speeds of 200 miles per hour. It usually flies up to 15,500 miles a year. A Peregrine falcon once flew 960 miles in 48 hours! Another very interesting thing about the peregrine falcon is that it can be found all over the world except the freezing Arctic and Antarctica. They are usually found in wide open spaces like coasts but can also be found on skyscrapers and bridges like New York buildings. Its diet is any small or medium sized birds. Males in North America and Europe are usually darkish gray with a pink underbelly and black spots. A cool fact is that a female is 1520 percent heavier than the male because it has a heavier tail than the male. 2
Breeding and Babies A Peregrine falcon usually lays 34 eggs and mostly incubates the eggs instead of the male. When the chicks hatch the male still gets food for the chicks. After 4 weeks the chicks get their juvenal feathers. Then in 2 weeks the chicks take their first flight. Then the parents feed their young for up to 2 months more. They usually hand food in flight. 3
Adaptations A Peregrine falcon is a animal with great adaptations like feet also called talons which are great for killing birds a part of food. Another great adaptation are the wings that help the great falcon dive and fly at incredible speeds of 200 miles per hour [320 kilometers per hour]. The last incredible fact about the Peregrine falcon is about the great bill or beak that the falcon uses to tear and cut the flesh from the animal. It is trying to capture and eat food like a duck

Behavior A Peregrine falcon is one of the fastest birds on earth. When it dives, it makes a aerodynamic streamline free falling from more than 1,000 feet in the air going really fast. For migration some falcons stay where they are year round. Some falcons in the northern parts like Canada fly up to 4,800 miles to southern South America and come back each year. That is 9,600 miles flying each year for migration. 5
