Letter from Your LTG & Newsletter Chair
"Hello Turtles!
"Hello everyone!
I hope you all had a great fall semester/quarter and had happy holidays as well! While some of you are back in school already and the other half don’t start until the end of January, I wish you all the best of luck in your studies and can’t wait to see you all at DCON 2019!! As the term comes to an end, I encourage you all to reflect on the past term and see how far you have come as a member. Keep in mind as we approach the club and district election season that everyone has the skills and talents to become a leader, but a good leader will learn how to harness these toward a common goal.
I hope y'all had an amazing break and if you've already started school, I hope that you are starting of well! The term is coming to an end so I hope all of y'all are making the most out of the next few months, especially if this is your last year being a part of this organization.
Speaking of goals, I’m glad to announce that as a DLT so far we have met eight out of eleven goals that were part of my LTG platform when I ran back in March at DCON 2018. As a division we have come a long way and it’s all because of you! Because of your trust in me and all your high-spirited personalities, you have kept the DLT motivated to serve you all and make your CKI experience the best it can be. Thank you for a great term so far — let’s end it with a bang! Stay cool Central Coast!" -Nicolas Wright, Lieutenant Governor
Thank you to everyone that helped me put this newsletter together, whether it be through sumitting articles and pictures or encouraging others to submit articles. There's only one more newsletter left before the term if officially over so you still have one more chance to be featured in Central Coast's newsletter, so stay tuned for the next submission form! With that said, here is a look at what some of our schools have been up to in the Fall as well as some Central Coast updates and upcoming District events!" -Alysha Cabarrubias, Newsletter Chair

Member Installs
"Member Installs is one of the largest annual social events that takes place within the Fall at UCSB's CKI. It consists of an induction of our new members as well as a time when present members convene. My highlight was the beautiful photobooth which we were able to take pictures with our Circle K family members and fellow board members." -Adrian Cubas, UC Santa Barbara

BUNS & Hoppy Hour
"UCSB’s Circle K filled 3 full cars with volunteers eager to help out at the SB Humane Society with their Hoppy Hour & Picnic event. Volunteers helped set up gates around the yard so the bunnies would be able to run around freely. All the volunteers were able to play with the bunnies and guinea pigs too! This wasn’t our first time volunteering with them and I’m sure it won’t be our last!!" -Howard Wang, UC Santa Barbara
"In the middle of Dead Week, it was great to take a break and write captions for some YouTube videos to help the hearing impaired. It definitely takes more concentration than I expected! It was also very convenient as it was held in the comfort of our own library. All in all, four members attended and I’d say we all enjoyed it!" -Whitney Larsen, Cal Poly SLO

MBall "My friends and I approached this year’s UCSD Masquerade Ball with excitement. As we entered the doors of the San Diego Fleet Science Center, the walls were decorated with fairy lights and it felt magical. Next we made our way to the snack line and enjoyed some yummy treats; there were plenty of tables to sit and relax at, and the centerpieces all referenced various storybook tales. There was a buffet style candy station which was possibly my favorite part because there's always room for sweets! The dance floor was bursting with color and music, and as the night went on it was packed with gorgeous Circle K folk partying the night away. I loved watching the couples and the friends and everyone coming together to have a good time for a good cause. A friend and I explored the other parts of the science center as there was lots to do at this year’s Masquerade. The photo booth had plenty of props and was a fantastic way to save some wonderful memories. Near the photo booth there was a Lego station, an endearing surprise. People were packed around the plastic building toys and unleashing their creativity in their best dress, something I definitely won't forget. In a room nearby was the raffle table with a bountiful collection of prizes. My friend and I put in our tickets and looked around the rest of the room; there was poker being played and a flip book photo booth, so boredom was certainly not an option. As we moved on through the rest of what was open to us, we played with the interactive scientific exhibits. We had a lot of fun exploring and learning while dressed to the nines. Throughout the night, my friends and I shuffled around between every fun filled room available. Plenty of candy was eaten, dancing was done, and exploration was enjoyed. This masquerade ball was a night to remember and by the time it was all over, my friend and I were exhausted with happiness. I could honestly say it was better than any high school prom, and the fact that it was a fundraiser for Feeding America made it all the more special!" -Sabrina Hetzler, Cal Poly SLO

Crazy Kompetition for Infants South
"Post Pediatric Trauma Week (PTP), the Finance and Fundraising (FiFun) committee held Crazy Kompetition for Infants (CKI) South in Buena Park to fundraise for PTP. Hundreds of members came out for a good time and played a variety of competitive games. It was extremely hot, but many remained enthusiastic and eager to win. UCSB sent 8 members, 3 of whom were judges and 3 in the FiFun committee. Alysha Jean Cabarrubias, Adrian Cubas, and I, all from UCSB and in the FiFun committee, had a great time bonding with the committee members. While the event was stressful, we were glad there was a good turnout and that all was successful, with the exception of Alysha’s injury. Unfortunately, she slipped and severely sprained her ankle." -Naomi Chia, UC Santa Barbara

"As a newcomer for FTC, I didn’t know what to expect. Some parts were overwhelming, others were filled with laughs, and just overall, I experienced a variety of emotions that I didn’t think were possible in just a weekend. All in all, I’m grateful for the people I met and all the memories I made!" -Amanda Valiente, Cal Lutheran University
Fall Training
"As a new member of CKI, going to FTC was an immersive and fun experience. We meet and bonded with other members from other schools and worked together to solve riddles. The initiation ceremony was my favorite part; it was an inspiring and humbling moment to see everyone's glowsticks light up the night. I can't wait to see what CKI holds for me." -Shysel Granados, Cal Lutheran University
