The College has an excellent reputation for sporting and academic achievement. We strive to bring students together who seek to develop their sporting potential within our wide range of Sport Academies. Each Academy is led by staff with a wealth of knowledge and experience which supports the holistic development of the student athlete.
THE ACADEMY OFFERS:
Intensive training programme First class coaching with dedicated and experienced staff Regular fixtures and competition in the British Colleges of Sport structure Match day experience at high level competitions within the area. Opportunities to gain internationally recognised coaching qualifications at Levels 1&2 Sports massage and sports therapy support. Nutrition and fitness programmes (strength and conditioning, core stability) Full-time academic study programme in a wide range of subjects with potential work placements at regional professional sports clubs Support with USA College & University Sport Scholarship applications Visits to major sporting events and venues Opportunities to coach/lead at schools and clubs in the local community Additional academic tutor support
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS FOR ACADEMIES
For entry into the Sports Academy, students must be enrolled on a full-time course, and attain minimum academic entry requirements. Students under 19 years can participate in competitions for the College. Students over 19 can train with the squads but cannot participate in BCS competitions. All Academies are monitored carefully and training and playing is dependent on students’ academic progress and commitment. The Academies are closely linked to and benefit strongly from the experience of the College’s range of fulltime courses in Sport and Fitness.

Based in and around Nottingham City Centre, our Engineering department has an excellent reputation. We offer a range of Engineering courses, Manufacturing, Maintenance, Electrical, Fabrication and Welding, and work alongside some of the largest employers in the East Midlands. Our lecturers and instructors are industry experienced professionals and will give you the skills to succeed in industry. Courses within Engineering and Technology provide relevant and practical programmes to students, enabling you to progress into employment or gain a place on a university course. Full-time courses offer clear progression and support you in your journey to become a qualified Engineer in one of many areas that sit within the sector. Our team will work with you to ensure you are happy with your choice before you begin. This may include a taster session where you can “have a go� if you are not quite sure what to expect from a particular course. Many students who achieve a full-time qualification with us progress into an Apprenticeship or into Higher Education.

We are able to offer Full-time and Part-time HNC (Higher National Certificate) and HND (Higher National Diploma) in Manufacturing, Operations and Electrical and Electronic Engineering. On completion, you could progress to University and top up your qualification to Degree level. Our courses offer excellent preparation for further qualifications and careers within the Manufacturing and Engineering industries that are vital to the global economy. Careers for the professional engineer offer a choice of challenging and rewarding opportunities. The engineering facilities on London Road include modern industrial lathes, milling machines, drills, grinders and computer numerically controlled machines. The centre in New Basford is one of the largest fabrication and welding centres in the UK.

The School of Lifelong Learning offers comprehensive full and part-time English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) courses for students of all ages across the City. Courses are delivered at three main College centres in Beeston, City Centre and West Bridgford as well as centres in the community. Students benefit from extensive support during pre-admission via our main referral partner, Begin, and from College staff, both during the initial advice and guidance phase and throughout the course. Additionally, class sizes are monitored carefully to ensure that students are given as much help as possible and any additional learning needs are identified during induction with appropriate support provided by Student Services staff.
The area is vibrant and reflects the different cultures of students with trips and cultural celebrations embedded within courses.

There is significant input into courses from key external agencies to help students make appropriate career choices and deal with a range of potentially difficult social issues. This is very important for some of our younger students who benefit from tutorial support and enrichment activities. The ESOL team is particularly experienced and well qualified and this means that students benefit from the strong commitment to improving the quality of the learning experiences on offer.

The GCSE full-time resit pathway is designed for people who want to retake their GCSEs to improve their grades from foundation to higher. The College is recognised for the specialisms offered in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM), therefore the GCSE subjects available are English, Maths, Biology, Chemistry and Physics.

For 2014/15 the pathway is being developed to offer subsidiary subjects in History, Geography and Business Studies. The programme is offered at Beeston and is delivered as a compact 3-day course. With successful completion of the course, learners will then be in a position to progress to Level 3 at Central College Nottingham.

Most of our students gain employment after completing their course or successfully progress onto Higher Education. All teaching staff have an extensive range of experience in the Health, Social Care and Early Years sectors and offer a supportive learning environment.

INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY
The College has invested substantial financial resources into the development of Information Technology suites at all of our centres. The College has both PC and Apple mac workstations and networks. We provide a wide range of applications, computer aided learning software and industry standard packages. Access to IT facilities, the internet and email services are available to all students upon completion of an inductiontraining package.
FUNCTIONAL SKILLS
Many academic and vocational qualifications are only indicators of an individual’s ability in a specific specialist area, whereas Functional Skills are the generic skills of English, Maths and ICT that are important in everything that we do: • at school • at college • at work • at home • in preparing for university Our aim is to ensure that you have a level 2 qualification in both Maths and English when you move on to employment or higher education. If you have not previously achieved GCSE Maths and/or English at A*-C and GCSEs are not really appropriate for you, the more practical, applied Functional Skills will be included in your programme of study up to and including level 2. In a highly competitive world, Functional Skills can be those extra qualifications that tip the balance in your favour when applying for a job or a university place. Functional Skills qualifications are evidence for your CV that you can compete with the best.

ADDITIONAL LEARNING SUPPORT FOR FE STUDENTS
We have a large team of specialist tutors and provide a variety of methods of support for students with additional needs. Students with physical disabilities, mobility problems, hearing and sight impairment, dyslexia and other needs can rely on professional and dedicated support. We will endeavour to provide support staff, adapted facilities and specialist equipment at all times.
