Discover the fun of learning
A part-time course can get you back into the fun of learning – learn for pleasure, learn for work, learn for life!
How to enrol
Choose a Course Courses are listed alphabetically by subject area. You can find a general list of course areas in the CONTENTS on page 2. If you need a more detailed list of course areas, please search our INDEX on pages 44-45. The index also contains details of the course locations. If you find a course you are interested in and would like further information, please note the course code and either phone our Telephone Enquiry Centre on 0115 914 6414 or go to our website at www.centralnottingham.ac.uk and enter the course code in the “Search for a Course” box.
Apply If a course does not have a symbol in the “Key” column, you can simply enrol and pay either over the phone or in person. If a course is marked with an “A”, you will need to complete an application form. If a course is marked with a “G”, you will need to phone the Telephone Enquiry Centre to get further information on how to proceed with your enrolment. Courses marked with a “£” are Full Cost, therefore, no fee reductions are available to anyone. Fee reductions may be available on all other courses in this guide depending on your financial situation.
Enrol You can enrol on most of the courses in this guide over the telephone with a debit or credit card by phoning 0115 914 6414. If you are in receipt of a means tested benefit and believe that this entitles you to a reduction in your course fees, you will need to bring the relevant documentation in person to one of our main sites. You will not be able to enrol over the phone with your benefits.
Applying could not be easier…

Fee
information
Help with course fee paymentsFor courses over £100 you can spread the cost by paying in instalments.
If you are a non EU/EEA or are a UK National but have not lived in the UK for the past 3 years If you have lived outside of the UK/EU or are a national of a country outside of the UK/EU and European Economic Area, you will need to be assessed for fee status as you may not qualify as having “home status” as defined by our Funding Agencies. If assessed as not having “home status” you will need to be referred to the College’s International Office who will be able to advise on fees and other requirements.
Ask for details.
Contact the Telephone Enquiry Centre on 0115 914 6414 who will put you through to the International Team.
Fees/Methods of Payment The course fee listed in this Guide is the one you pay, unless you are eligible for fee reductions (see fee waiver table on page 10). There are a number of ways that students can pay their course fees: • Cash - This should be paid in person at College sites (please do not send cash through the post) • Cheques -To be made payable to “Central College Nottingham” • Credit /debit card - Minimum payment of £10 • Employer paying for fees – The College will require full payment or a letter from the employer, on headed paper, requesting that an invoice be raised and sent to them for the relevant fee(s). This should be produced at the time of enrolment. Instalment payments may be made by direct debit where the total course fees are £100.00 or more. Agreement forms and direct debit authorisations are issued at the College’s main receptions. For courses of 25 weeks or more, an initial deposit is required, an then three further payments will be collected during the course. Instalments are available for shorter courses but these payments are collected by deposit and one further instalment midway through the course. The deposit must be paid at enrolment. An administration charge of £20.00 is made where instalments are taken out and the students choose to be invoiced rather than use the direct debit system. This charge is payable with the deposit. There is no administration fee if the student pays by direct debit. Some part-time courses will need you to purchase additional materials which are linked to your studies, such as books, consumables or the cost of trips. The College will attempt to inform you of such costs at the start of the course.
Learn essential ‘hands on’ practical skills You could even progress onto a qualification, with a Diploma Level 1 in Bricklaying.

Fee
information Fee Reduction/Remission If you are 16-18 (as of 31st August 2014) you will not be required to pay tuition/ exam/ registration fees. You will only be liable for any course related costs, e.g. uniform, equipment, etc. If you are 19 or over on 31st August 2014 you may be eligible for free tuition, if you fall into one of the categories set by the Skills Funding Agency. However, you will still need to pay certain course related costs, e.g. uniform, equipment, etc. As set by the Skills Funding Agency, the table on page 10 shows under which circumstances individuals aged 19+ can claim remitted fees and what evidence is required.
24+ Advanced Learning Loans In August 2013, the government introduced student loans for all students aged 24 and above, who want to study at Level 3 and above. These loans are called 24+ Advanced Learning Loans. This does not apply to students who want to study for an Apprenticeship, for more information about Apprenticeships see page 18. 24+ Advanced Learning Loans will enable students aged 24 and above to cover the cost of any tuition and exam fees, so you don’t have to pay these costs upfront. Applications for 24+ Advanced Learning Loans are via Student Finance England (SFE) and any repayment of the loan won’t start until you are earning over £21,000 a year. Interest on the loans will be lower than anything on the high street and linked to inflation. Any outstanding balance will be written off after 30 years. To apply for 24+ Advanced Learning Loans please go to www.direct.gov.uk/educationandlearning For students studying Access to Higher Education courses, the government has agreed that for those students who then move onto Higher Education and complete their Higher Education programme, Student Finance England will write off any amount outstanding on the loan for their Access to Higher Education course.
Financial Support – FE Support may be available towards College costs such as equipment, books, materials and travel. Any support is subject to an income assessment and information from course tutors. Application forms are available from College. For further information contact the Telephone Enquiry Centre on 0115 914 6414 who will put you through to the Student Finance Team.

Support and information Student Support Services Central College Nottingham is dedicated to meeting the education and training needs of the local community. Students are motivated by a number of different factors and the College recognises that success is largely due to hard work and commitment from both the student and staff. Lectures, classes and sessions are conducted in a professional, challenging and stimulating manner that contribute to a fun and dynamic adult learning environment. The following few pages highlight some of the additional facilities and services available to all of our students.
Careers Advice and Guidance Whether you are looking for a general interest or leisure course, professional qualifications, or a further or higher education programme, our College Information Team can help you find the right course. If you would like to discuss your career prospects or interests with a course tutor or with one of the College’s Progression Advisors, please contact the College’s Telephone Enquiry Centre on 0115 914 6414.
Student Identification Cards Full-time students must have a Student Identification card, which will be issued at enrolment. Part-time students can get a Student Identification card, at or after enrolment. This will enable use of College facilities such as library, photo copying and IT. Students can get these from the main receptions. Students with Identification cards are affiliated to the National Union of Students for the duration of their course. All students can apply for NUS Extra cards, (approx. £12.00 annually) which can be used for a range of discounts and concessions. NUS Extra cards can be purchased directly from NUS via their website at www.nusextra.co.uk. Student Identification cards MUST be carried by the student at all times and be shown to staff on request.
Smoking Policy It is against the law to smoke in College buildings. The College provides outdoor smoking areas at all of its sites where staff and students are able to smoke. This policy extends to the use of ‘e-cigarettes’ and similar simulated smoking devices.
Library Services The College’s Library and Learning Resources Service plays a key role in helping to support you during your studies. The service helps to enhance and underpin the quality of education provided by the College to all students whether as individuals or groups. Libraries are based at the main centres and are well stocked with books, periodicals and journals relevant to all course programmes. Students can access an extensive audio-visual collection and the internet. Libraries have short loan facilities and provide a reprographics and audio-visual service. Specialists are always available to provide support to help you find materials, use resources or acquire the necessary skills to use the library service.
