Talk Volume 1 Issue 2

Hello Chavez key-uties! Can you believe it’s November already?

It feels just like yesterday the year 2022 began and I was a junior. Anyways, this is honestly my most favorite time of the year! I love watching the rain and feeling the cold temperature while drinking hot cocoa. Service projects during the holiday season also holds a special place in my heart! Mariah Carey has defrosted!!

You might be asking “What now?” after Fall Rally North ends, which is a good question! Key Club extends so much more than just attending that one event. We still have many more service projects, volunteering opportunities, socials, meetings, DCMs, etc. to do! District Convention is also around the corner. So I hope you may stay, invite a few other people along, and continue contributing your community (especially since it’s the holidays!) Wishing you all the BEARy best!

I believe that Walk to End Alzheimer's was one of the many service opportunities that truly elicit the feeling of making a meaningful contribution to the community. To bring about awareness to those suffering from Alzheimer's, it was our duty as volunteers, including myself, to set up booths (with tables, water, snacks, etc.), construct flowers with ingrained meanings for each color, and be stationed at specific areas on the golf course to patrol the two-mile walk. Additionally, we were granted the opportunity to receive free snacks, water, and more. From a volunteer perspective, it was undoubtedly an engaging collaborative effort, especially between those from different high school Key Clubs overall.

Grizzlies on Ice was just a review or intro almost for new key clubbers. We got there and went over basic cheers in preparation for FRN, as it also included a spirit training! It also gave us a change to meet the divisions main spirit coordinators, officers, as well as other key club members. They were all super nice and ice skating was a really good way to bring everyone together. I really enjoyed it personally. We also had a small little group cheer in the corner of the ice rink which was cute.

Compared to our usual DCMs, attending Spooktober DCM was pretty fun! I had a wonderful experience playing new icebreakers, learning FRN chants, bonding with new people, and watching the two inflatable bears fight each other. Although the DCM was different from what I expected, I had plenty of fun screaming chants with my fellow key clubbers. Overall, I cannot wait to see what our next DCM has in store for us!

This year was my second and last FRN, and it did not disappoint. I felt like I was able to really step out of my comfort zone this year and meet so many new key clubbers from different divisions. Compared to last year, I got to experience FRN as an officer and DLT member, and it really made it all the more memorable for me. Though I found myself terrified to get on many rides and participate in Fright Fest, I had an enjoyable experience with fellow Key Clubbers and can say this is one of the most memorable moments of my senior year.
