Poblenou as seen by the English 1 students

Poblenou=innovation

When I was a child Poblenou was an industrial neighborhood in decay. Now it is one of the most innovative neighborhoods of Barcelona in many different aspects: architecture, urbanism, Technology, recycling, design, education… Poblenou is very attractive for foreigners to work and to live. This fact has increased the price of housing. Poblenou is a beautiful district!!

The neighborhood of Poblenou is very nice, with a lot of life I really like to walk along the boulevard, from Diagonal Avenue to the beach while looking at all the stores

A“newtown”inPoblenou

English 1

I have not always lived in Poblenou. I came from the neighborhood of Sants and I came here with a broken heart 18 years ago. In this “new town” there is everything: restaurants, hairdressers, pharmacies, sports centers, a theater, an ice cream store. I walk along the “Rambla”, there is the school where I learn English. I also see the sea every day. I’m lucky in my new town… I love Poblenou.

Poblenou“aquietandcozyneighborhood”

A neighborhood with its own entity and traditions, which retains the atmosphere of a “village” as can be seen in the Plaza Prim, meeting point of fishermen and workers of all times.

Maria Aguilo street and the Rambla Poblenou, that goes from the sea to the mountain, has stores, bars and the Alliance Casino, headquarters of the socio-cultural life of the neighborhood.

These are areas of the neighborhood that during their festivities in early September, parades are held with the Collas del Drac and the Devils with their drummers, organizing authentic fire and sound shows, where neighbors, the young and the old, together, with visitors are immersed in this struggle between good and evil led by the Devils with their torches.

Since the ´92 Olympics in Barcelona`, the Poblenou neighborhood has been transformed by its aperture to the sea, having grown architecturally with new areas such as the Olympic Village, the 22@ District, the Front Maritim and Diagonal Mar, it is a neighborhood that integrates cultures and sensitivities.

The Poblenou neighborhood is highly appreciated by the citizens of Barcelona and tourists from other countries.

Neighborhood Vision

Poblenou

The sea, the fisherman’s houses, the office buildings, the Rambla, the sun, the parks, the nice people ...everything is Poblenou I’m crazy in Love with Poblenou because it is full of contrasts It can be quiet, and loud, with wide and narrow pedestrian streets for walking. It has a good gastronòmic offer: ice cream shops are my favorites

Poblenou

To begin with, I wanted to say that I don’t know the ancient history of this beautiful town of Poblenou but seeing the composition of its name, which seems in my opinion to mean in Catalan "new town".

It is one of the towns that I really like with these multiple characteristics: its geographical position the buildings ,etc .It is the city that seems to me very easy to access.

There are almost all the necessary means of transport. Personally I cannot stand a week without doing anything in this beautiful city because one of the most remarkable places that I like very much is the training center of adults Montserrat Roig where I go.

This has been my school for the past 4 years. Apart from these reasons that are also very important to me, which gave me the opportunity to talk about this city, there are also other places that I like a lot . I can mention the beach which is located on the edge of this city .To do sport, I prefer to come to this locality which has all the necessary materials. I can say Poblenou is one of the neighborhoods of Barcelona that plays a very significant role in my life, these 2 places that I mentioned among many others are important because everyone knows the value of studying and doing sport.

To finish my writing I will just say a few words for the city of Poblenou: thank you.

MylifeinPoblenou

I have worked in Poblenou when it was full of factories. I knew it very well. The air was highly polluted and people lived with the noise of the machines and the engines

The old factories have been replaced by modern technological companies Like in other cities, speculation in housing pushed out families who cannot pay the high price that is imposed.

Today, the beaches have been recovered and people can enjoy them

ElPoblenou

I have lived in Poblenou for 20 years. Before I lived in the Ensanche, also in Barcelona city. When I came to live here, el Poblenou was a neighborhood with a few shops and marketplaces. It was very different from the Barcelona center. I used to say: I live in another city.

In these twenty years, the Poblenou has also changed. Now, there are a lot of shops, pubs, coffees and restaurants. There are a lot of new office buildings, hotels and houses. There are always young families and children.

What I like about Poblenou is walking near the sea, not having the noise of cars at night and having open spaces. I don’t like tourism very much. The tourists are all over the streets and the beaches. On Sunday mornings, Rambla Street is full of people walking to the sea. It’s like a river of people from all countries.

But it’s a good neighborhood to live in.

Let’stalkaboutPoblenou

Thanks to the presentation of this work about Poblenou, I have been able to realize that historically it was an area of marshes surrounded by lagoons that reveal the names of some of its streets

Due to its industrial development it was considered the “Catalan Manchester”. Nowadays, walking through its streets, you can see that through time Poblenou has become an exquisite place due to its varied gastronomy, and the pleasure of sitting on its terraces.

The Rambla and the proximity to the beach makes this neighborhood a ideal place to enjoy with friends and family, also due to the business growth that it currently has, in addition big companies throughout Europe are located here Because of all these reasons, Poble Nou is an ideal place.

PuebloNuevo

Pueblo Nuevo, a beautiful neighborhood, I began to know about it in 1974, how has it changed! I don't know who their neighbours were immigrant workers, those born here...etc. It was a welcoming, hard-working neighborhood, many factories located in it, it was different from other neighborhoods in the city.

The most important thing, the aperture to the sea, since 1992 in the Olympics, crosses the Ronda Litoral, a magnificent Rambla formerly the Paseo del Triunfo.

It has an old and beautiful Casino de la Alianza, well known and popular. And of course, the Horchateria el Tío Che, known worldwide. But like everything, it changes, it changes, because of 22@, it is transforming into many hotels, offices and its people are changing daily, welcoming more tourism every day.

Pueblo Nuevo, Poble Nou, what a beautiful neighbourhood to live in.

It's a Sunday morning and after the alarm clock is turned off I get dressed with winter clothes then finally I tie my slippers. I look out through the window and the sun hasn't risen yet. I have cereal with milk for breakfast before I leave home. The night is cold and silent, only the baker is open and some bars are setting to open, walking, I also find those in yellow uniform cleaning and sweeping. I go to the beach, I like to see the sunrise in the sea and the noise of the waves… it is wonderful.

Route:whattoseeinPoblenou

The most representative of PobleNou is the Rambla of Poblenou When walking its streets we can find shops, cafes and restaurants

And also the L’Aliança and the hundred-year-old horchateria Tio Che

It is the only Rambla that goes to the sea in Barcelona and has two urban beaches, Mar Bella and Bogatell

To enjoy Poble Nou is to walk its streets and see it changes from traditional stores to technology companies with their startups buildings.

Poblenou

The Poblenou is an area of Barcelona that in the last 35 years has gone from being an industrial area to becoming a neighborhood full of technology companies that together with the UPF university build the so-called 22@

It has gone from being a working-class neighborhood to being a tourist area with very expensive apartments

However, I like living here.

Historyofmytown

City country district It had many industries since being located on the outskirts of Barcelona The “ciudad condal” was expanding and the new town transferred all the factories outside They have left chimneys to remember the history of the neighborhood Then in the new town, the train passed around the Catalan beaches going through the towns to Mataró

Now the new town is very cosmopolitan. It has progressed a lot since the 1992 Olympics, large hotels have been built with facilities with all the services like gyms, sports and buildings adapted to the era

IlovePoblenou

Today is Thursday and I wake up early, it is half past seven, because I go to English class at eleven o`clock, but before I like very much to trip to Poblenou.

I study English in the Centre Montserrat Roig, in the hearth of the Poblenou, where is its beautiful Rambla.

I love a lot Nordic-walking with my sticks to the Poblenou, way to school. I feel really happy because of slowing down, listening, seeing...I live a few moment of vacation, and of course, I drink coffee in the Beckett room!

I see the “Escocesa”; full of very good artists!. Also, I look at the chimney of the “Ca l’Alier”. What is fantastic, really great! Where past, present and future meet magically. After that, the people are happy in the park.

It is a quarter past ten and... I am worried, stressed and frightened. Where is my backpack? What can I do? There I take all my things!

I hear screaming ...Stop please! What's the matter?. A young man brings me running the backpack that I forget on the grass in the park.

I am thankful for my luck because I am happy again. I love Poblenou!

Inma Barbero English 1

WhydoIlovePoblenou?

I have ten reasons…

One, because the people are very good

Two, because it has good services

Three, because it has places to have fun.

Four, because it is well connected to the rest of the city

Five, because it is well communicated in terms of transport and easy to leave the city

Six, because it is next to the beach

Seven, because it has all the shops I need

Eight, because it is very flat to walk

Nine, because it has a varied cultural offer

Ten, especially because here I have my home where I live with my wife and children

Poblenou

In the city of Barcelona there is the neighborhood of Poblenou. It´s a working class neighborhood, near the center of the city of Barcelona. Its famous graveyard and its beaches are known because of the Olympic games of the year 92 when the transformation of the city began.

Poblenou

My name is Cisco and I’m a student at a school in Poble Nou.

Poble Nou was a working-class neighborhood They called it “Catalan Manchester” for all the industry and transport agencies that existed.

Before the 1992 Olimpics, the neighborhood was close to the sea They removed the train tracks and opened it to the sea. Now it is a very nice neighborhood, with many offices and very nice beaches

La Rambla is the main street, full of restaurants and shops.

What can I say about “El Poble Nou”?

I love it and you ask me, why? For its environment, there are friendly people in the streets, shops for all tastes and styles. I really know little about the neighborhood, but the little I see “I love it”.
