Career Building 101

This course is designed to teach students basic employability skills. Course work includes discussion of abilities, skills, and accomplishments. Resume writing, interviewing techniques, professional workplace writing, working with different personality types are covered. Upon completion of the course, students would have discussed techniques that allow them to feel more confident and to become more successful in the job market.

Steps To Job Seeking Proficiency

Get one-on-one assistance with your job search, resume, and interview skills from a trained professional. Attend as often as you need to complete your job search. Microsoft Exelemployment Success

This course is designed to teach students Microsoft Excel basics for job search record keeping and budgeting paychecks. Students will also learn how to make a resume and perform online job search profile updates that reflect their new Microsoft Excel skills and knowledge and complete job search exercises.

Introduction To Medical Receptionist

This course is designed to provide employability skills training to function professionally and confidently in an entrylevel medical receptionist position. Students will have familiarity with medical terms and tools, insurance, medical office practices and procedures, and the business and communication skills needed to succeed. Students will also learn techniques to ace job interviews and write powerful resumes. 48 hours. 9/5/23-9/27/23

911 Telecommunicator

This course is designed to provide employability skills training and career exploration for the role of 911

Telecommunicator within the Emergency Management and 911 Communication Department in New Hanover County Government. Students will receive training in Emergency Dispatcher roles, 911 example calls, HIPAA information, terminology, and basic listening for understanding lessons. Upon successful completion of this class and meeting all course requirements, students will be given the opportunity to take the CritiCall test and will be guaranteed at least one job interview .

Computer Technology Awareness

This course is designed to assist students with their job seeking using current technology through the use of computers and smartphones. Course work includes online job searches, online job applications, developing a LinkedIn profile, creating email accounts, creating resumes and cover letters. Upon completion of this program, students should have the capabilities to successfully search and apply for employment electronically.

Microsoft Word For The Workplace

This course is designed to teach students Microsoft Word skills and techniques that are used in the workplace, as well as learn how to create a resume and online profile updates that reflect their new Microsoft Word skills and knowledge. Students will work on creating cover letters in Microsoft Word that reflect their newly obtained Microsoft skills and complete job search exercises.

Linkedin For Job Seekers

The course is designed to teach students how to utilize LinkedIn for job searching. Students will learn how to create a profile, create and upload resumes, navigate the site, and complete online job searches. Upon successful completion, students will have successfully created a LinkedIn profile and will have learned the following:

• The basics of LinkedIn navigation

• How to search for jobs on LinkedIn

• The basics of resume writing

• How to create and manage a OneDrive account

• How to research potential employers

English Language In The Workplace

Learners will be able to demonstrate knowledge of employment essentials, workplace communications, understand workplace terms and idioms, the function of a resume and cover letter, and interview techniques and terminologies. INCOME MAINTENANCE CASEWORKER – NC FAST (PREREQUISITE- HUMAN SERVICES EXPLORATION)

This course is designed to cover a variety of skills associated with the Income Maintenance Caseworker role to determine service eligibility. Specific focus will include proficiency in the utilization of the NCFAST application. Other topics will include skills in communication, interviewing, time management, data gathering/ compiling, and data analysis. This class is not fee waived. 48 hours

Lifestyle Success Plus

This course is designed to assist individuals with determining their goals and interests in an effort to reach successful employment. Class topics include goal setting, employability skills, success networks, and educational opportunities. Students will have the opportunity to create documents necessary for successfully finding employment, such as resumes, cover letters, and online applications.

HOSPITALITY AND TOURISM PRE-EMPLOYMENT COURSE

This course will prepare students for entry level positions at hotels, restaurants, and resorts. Students will learn about: career pathways and opportunities; cover letter and resume writing; work ethics; attitudes and professionalism; teamwork and industry practices; sanitation and food safety; and customer service best practices. Upon successful completion, students are guaranteed an interview.

CAREER EXPLORATION: CORRECTIONS OFFICER

This course covers skills and strategies designed to provide employability skills training and career exploration for positions within the Division of Adult Correction and Juvenile Justice (DACJJ) of the North Carolina Department of Public Safety (NCDPS). Students will be trained via the Corrections Pre-Employment Training (CPET) modules and program management guidelines approved by NCDPS.
