Effective Teacher Training

This course is designed to educate students about effective teaching practices by way of lecture-discussion and hands-on participation and to provide substitute teachers training in the following areas: standards of professional conduct, management of student behavior, effective classroom instructional strategies, health emergencies and first aid, blood borne pathogens, staff and student relations, and other relevant topics. This course is highly recommended for teaching assistants and participants who are interested in substitute teaching positions in Pender and surrounding counties.

Notary Public

This course provides instruction to individuals who want to become commissioned as a Notary Public. Topics include legal, ethical, and procedural requirements of the Notary Act. Upon completion of this course with a passing exam grade of 80%, a person is eligible to make application with the NC Secretary of State office. The course is designed to prepare the student to be commissioned/ appointed as an electronic notary. This is not an online class for notary certification. All students MUST be a commissioned NC notary to register for this class. If you are not commissioned in NC, you need the 8 hour class prior to taking this course. Refer to the notary schedule options on our website. Please bring your NC Notary #, valid NC drivers license, and your copy of the 2016 NC Notary Public Manual to class. Students will also purchase the electronic notary manual ($7.49) at the CFCC bookstore or the CFCC bookstore online platform. This course is designed for instructional areas related to individuals who want to become a commissioned electronic notary. Healthcare

Heartsaver Cpr And Aed

This course is for anyone who wants to learn how to administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and learn how to use an automated external defibrillator (AED) to be better prepared to assist a loved one. This class is also for those with limited or no medical training who would like to obtain a course completion card in CPR and AED to meet job, regulatory, or other requirements. Textbook provided. (Students will need to bring $17 in cash to class purchase a CPR certification card.)

Intro To Refrigeration

This course is designed to introduce the basic refrigeration process uses in mechanical refrigeration and air conditioning systems. Topics include: terminology, safety, and identification and function of components; refrigeration cycle; tools and instrumentation used in mechanical refrigeration systems. Upon completion of this course students will be able to identify refrigeration systems and components, explain the refrigeration process, and use the tools and instrumentation of the trade. earn an EPA certification. Seating is limited, first come first serve. No prerequisites.

Computers For Beginners

Computers for Beginners familiarizes the student with computer basics including parts of a computer, understanding common computer terms, using popular computer programs such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint (emphasis on Word), email, surfing the web, and computer maintenance. This course is designed to properly prepare the student to immediately use and benefit from computers, whether at home or at a public facility, with confidence and ease.

BOAT TRAILERING, LAUNCHING AND RECOVERY

Tired of arguing with your first mate at the boat ramp? Never quite mastered backing a boat trailer? Through hands-on practice and instruction the small boat trailer class will cover the basics of backing a boat trailer and the launching and recovery of a small boat (14-26 feet). Students will practice boat trailering and backing on the CFCC campus and take their new skills to the boat ramp for further practice. Students will hone their skills using the Marine Technology department’s boat and truck.

Adult High School

This is a traditional evening and online high school program that meets at the Surf City Center. Students complete the 22 credits required for a North Carolina high school diploma. Credit may be awarded for courses completed at the student’s original high school. Registration and orientation sessions are held twice a month at the Wilmington campus. Classes operate year round.
