Building Inspection Iii
The Building Level III course is designed for the education and training of the Building Level III code enforcement official who has the responsibility of inspecting all types of construction unlimited in height and area. This course is built upon the information presented in the Building Inspections Level I and II course. Upon completion, course participants will have a better understanding of the North Carolina State Building Code and will be able to apply the codes in the inspection field. In addition, with the successful completion of the Building Level III and the Law and Administration courses in conjunction with other education and experience requirements specified by the North Carolina Code Officials Qualification Board, course participants will be eligible to take the Building Level III state examination for inspector certification.

Fire Alarm Technician Apprenticeship
Earn while you learn! This program is a registered apprenticeship program through the Department of Labor. Upon completion of the four-level/four-year program, apprentices will receive their journeyman card and certificate. The apprenticeship is open to students nationwide and encourages NICET certification. Coursework is completed online while the apprentice works full time in the industry to gain handson experience.

Cape Fear Community College offers Fire Alarm Systems Training through two paths. Students may register for Alarms 101 and Alarms 102 courses or they may register for the Apprenticeship Program.

This course is designed for individuals who are new to the fire alarm industry and will focus on fundamentals. Students will learn basic electrical theory and understand resistance, voltage, and current. Individuals currently in the fire alarm industry would benefit from the concepts and theories which will be built upon in the Alarms 102 course.

Historic Preservation Construction Certificate

This program provides students with knowledge and skills in working with historic homes, buildings, and structures. Throughout the three courses in the program, students will learn about different styles of historic homes and methods used to construct, repair, and preserve them. The first course in the series provides an introductory overview of various areas contractors will encounter when working on historic structures such as roofing, plaster, and windows. Courses II and III dig deeper into proper deconstruction, home rehabs, trade-specific concepts, and more.
Curriculum consists of lectures, hands-on labs, and guest speakers from local professionals. Taking a local approach, CFCC is collaborating with Historic Wilmington Foundation to provide this program. This program will provide students with a deeper understanding of architecture and historic districts, as it is specific to New Hanover and Pender Counties.
COURSE I: INTRO TO HISTORIC CONSTRUCTION
Take field trips to local historic homes and buildings to gain an understanding of and appreciation for Wilmington’s historic community. This class meets two times a week—once face-to-face and once online.

The course is designed to teach students how to properly renovate historical homes and small commercial units with a preservation approach. Students will be able to identify different styles of historic materials, and methods used to construct them. This program prepares students with the knowledge to sit for the Journeyman Exam upon completion of all four levels. This four-level/ four-year program is taught using the NCCER Trainee curriculum and books. Instructors at each level will administer monthly written and performance tests/modules. This course is designed to introduce machining operations as they relate to the metalworking industry. Topics include machine shop safety, measuring tools, lathes, drilling machines, saws, milling machines, bench grinders, and layout instruments. Emphasis is placed on the setup and operation of machine tools including the selection and use of work holding devices, speeds, feeds, cutting tools, and coolants. The course also introduces the concepts and capabilities of computer numerical control machine tools. Topics include setup, operation, and basic applications.
Students that want to learn more after successful completion of Machining Applications I and II can earn transfer credit for MAC-111 (Machining Technology I) and MAC-121 (Intro to CNC Machining) in the CFCC Computer Integrated Machining (CIM) certificate and associate degree programs.
