What is ARC? ARC (Adolescent Resource Center) is a comprehensive counseling, educational and medical service for adolescents focused on reducing risk-taking behaviors, especially those related to sexual health.

Group Education Sessions Counselors teach issues relating to responsible decision-making and sexual health. Presentations are geared for elementary, middle and high school youth. Parent groups are also available. Sessions are usually held for 3-4 consecutive days. Topics, selected in consultation with the teacher, include: • abstinence •

acquaintance rape

communication skills

contraception

dating violence

decision making

healthy relationships

HIV/AIDS

negotiating contraceptive use

refusal/negotiation skills

puberty

sexual harassment

sexually transmitted diseases

teen pregnancy issues

• values clarification All course material is age-appropriate using presentations, discussion and interactive activities. Our topics and approach meet curriculum requirements set by the Delaware Department of Education.

Medical Services This component is designed to meet the unique needs of teenagers. ARC counselors and medical staff from Christiana Care Health Systems work as a team. Teens receive individual education and counseling every time he or she is seen for medical care. Parent and/or partner counseling is also available. Adolescents ages 12-20 may receive: • birth control • STD testing and treatment • pregnancy determination • HIV testing • emergency contraception
