FAQs WHAT IS THE COURSE LIKE?
WHO SHOULD RUN?
The Oberod course is exactly 5 kilometers of off-road grass trails that include elevated climbs and rolling ranges. The start is a downhill 300 meters and the finish is on the plush green lawn of the backyard of the historic Oberod Mansion. Throughout the course, there are two foot bridges to cross, “pine tree alley� and a fast-finish half mile. There will be a water station along the course. We encourage runners of all levels and WALKERS to experience this beautiful property.
Runners of all levels and WALKERS are welcome, and there are no age restricitons. Sorry, NO strollers or dogs are allowed on the course,and NO animals are allowed on the proprrty.
HOW WILL THE RACE BE TIMED? Delaware Race Timing, www.delawaretiming.com, will be chip timing the 5K run. The timing chip is included in the registration cost.
HOW CAN I REGISTER? Visit bitly.com/RunFest15 to register. Registration includes the timing chip, a tee shirt and post-run refreshments.
WHAT SHOULD I WEAR? Best footwear on this course is a spiked shoe but racing flats o running shoes will also work fine.
FAQs WHAT ARE THE AGE GROUPS/AWARDS? There will be awards for the overall top male and female runners and walkers. There will also be awards for the top 3 male and female runners in the following age groups:
10 & under
11-13
14-18
19-29 30-39 40-49 50-59 60-69 70 & over
WHAT EXACTLY IS Oberod AND WHERE IS IT? 400 Burnt Mill Rd, Wilmington, DE 19807 It’s a former du Pont estate in Centerville. The mansion was built by Harry Lunger and his wife, Jane du Pont Lunger in the late 1930’s. It is currently owned by Oberod Estate, LLC, and the Wilmington-based corporation, LabWare, Inc.* uses the mansion as a training facility. Vance Kershner, founder of LabWare, graciously offered the use of the property to Children & Families First for this event. *LabWare, Inc. develops and implements software for automating laboratory operations.
WHERE CAN I PARK? There will be parking at Oberod by way of the Burnt Mill Road entrance ONLY. Overflow parking will be at the Centerville Layton School. There will be signs in place and a policeman to assist in crossing Kennett Pike. Foot traffic will use the Snuffmill Road entrance directly from Kennett Pike. Vehicles will not be permitted to enter the property at this entrance. Handicapped parking will be available at Oberod.
CAN I VOLUNTEER? YES, please do! We will need plenty of help with the event. There is a VOLUNTEER option under ticket sales.
WHAT ABOUT THE WEATHER? This is a rain or shine event! Don’t let a little rain, scare you. It will add to the adventure. In the event of severe weather, check our website – www.cffde.org and listen to the local radio stations for cancelations.
