Transitional Youth Housing Directory

Emergency Shelter: Any facility with overnight sleeping accommodations, the primary purpose of which is to provide temporary shelter. The length of stay can range from one night up to as much as 3 months.

Transitional Housing: A type of housing for homeless families that allows them to stay for a longer period of time. Transitional housing usually offers services designed to help clients live on their own such as case management, life skills, mental health counseling, and childcare.

Voucher: A voucher generally refers to a Section 8 voucher provided by a local Housing Authority to a low-income person but can also refer to an emergency voucher for short-term motel stay for a homeless person.

Low-income/Affordable Apartments: Affordable housing is typically aimed at low and moderateincome households that are burdened by the high housing costs. There is usually a long wait-list at each apartment complex with low-income units, but it is recommended to sign up for the wait-list.

Transitional Youth Housing Directory

The Child and Family Guidance Center is a LA County Department of Mental Health (DMH) contractor that provides Specialized Prevention and Early Intervention (PEI) services to children, transition age youth, and adults utilizing evidence-based treatment interventions (EBPs) that are consistent with LAC/DMH Mental Health services Act (MHSA).

The Center also provides families with access to a comprehensive continuum of services depending on the needs of the family ranging from once a week; time limited mental services (PEI) to intensive in-home services that are delivered several times a week with 24-7 availability for crises.

The Community Resource Services is a division dedicated to improving the quality of life for special needs children and their families by helping them to locate, access and effectively use essential community health and social services.

Target Population: Homeless youth, ages 18 to 21. In order to be eligible for this program, the youth must agree to enroll in school or vocational training or seek employment. They also have a live-in facility for LGBTQIA+ homeless youth.

Services Available: Covenant House California is a multi-services agency offering comprehensive programs, including residential services, designed to meet the needs of runaway and homeless youth.

Services Provided: They have a transitional residence in the heart of Hollywood for LGBT youth who do not have a home of their own and have been turned away from their families. While living there, staff will help them find and maintain a job, enrol in school, and manage finances to eventually live on their own. Dormstyle rooms provide co-ed youth with a dresser, closet space, and freedom to decorate their space.

Target Population: For the Full-Service Partnership Program (FSP), young women between the ages of 1625 with mental illness that is resulting in difficulty in finding a place to live are eligible.

Services Available: They provide free housing; mental health services; case management services; basic life skills training; employment and educational assistance; and social and recreational activities. The FSP program focuses on providing mental health services and helping clients gain educational and vocational skills.

Target Population: Angel Guardian Home is comprised of 12 twobedroom apartments in the Women’s Village and provides long-term affordable housing for mothers with disabilities and their children, who are especially vulnerable to homelessness.

Services Available: Services include job development and placement, case management and life skills training. Families pay a modest rent based on a percentage of their income and may live at Angel Guardian Home until the youngest child reaches 18 years of age.

Farley House

Target Population: Farley has 21 one-bedroom apartments for mothers with up to two children.

Services Available: Farley House is home to The Village Kitchen, a culinary arts training program; the Employment and Client Services Center; and a computer lab and community room for life skills workshops and resident gatherings. Other services include counseling, advocacy and support for family reunification. The ultimate goal is that at the end of her stay at Farley House, a woman is well-prepared for maintaining employment, financial stability, and permanent housing.

Languille Emergency Shelter

Target Population: Languille Emergency Shelter provides a temporary home for 30 women who are taking the first crucial step out of homelessness toward a life of dignity and self-sufficiency. The women who come through the doors of Languille have lived on the streets or in their cars, fled domestic violence, suffered a job loss, experienced health problems or other life circumstances that led them to homelessness.

Services Available: This is a 12-week program designed to empower women to obtain the resources needed to become self-sufficient. Services include temporary housing, case management/resources & referrals, job development and employment services, placement into transitional or permanent housing.

-Bogen Family Transitional Housing Program: Young women must be emancipating out of the juvenile courts. They must be referred by one of various social service agencies throughout Los Angeles County.

Target Population: Homeless single parents under age 24 with children under five years of age. The majority of the parents in their program are former foster youth. Services Available: Gramercy Shelter provides affordable housing and support services, including counseling, case management, job training, education referrals, and on-going enrichment opportunities. Residents are required to pay rent, participate in parenting classes, utilize counseling, and attend a tenant association. A full-time social worker, outreach coordinator, and a residential manager are all on site for support. Childcare is also provided on site.

Women’s Care Cottage North Hollywood

Target Population: Homeless young women ages 1821, including pregnant women or women with one child (up to 1 year old), coming out of emergency shelters, foster care, and probation are eligible.

Services Available: They provide housing (from 18 months to three years), case management, counseling, job training, legal referrals, life skills coaching, and much more. The goal of the program is to help these young women start a new life and develop necessary

For admission, the center conducts an assessment through a medical detox unit to assess the need for medical detoxification. Psychological assessments are available if needed. Programs last from three days to one year.
