TAME IMPALA ---------------------------------------------------------------Tame Impala is a band from Perth, Australia. It is the psychedelic rock project of Kevin Parker. They are signed to Modular Records. The band came to prominence in 2010 with the release of their debut album Innerspeaker, and received critical acclaim for their 2012 album Lonerism. Their name refers to the impala, a medium sized antelope. They like to see themselves as “a steady flowing psychedelic groove rock band that

emphasizes dream-like melody.” Tame Impala was formed from Kevin Parker’s original blues/ jazz/psychedelic band, the Dee Dee Dums. The Dee Dee Dums consisted of Parker (guitar) and Luke Epstein (drums). The band achieved second place at the 2005 AmpFest and won third place that year in the state final of The Next Big Thing. In October 2006 Epstein was replaced by drummer

Sam Devenport, Epstein going on to play with Sugarpuss. The Dee Dee Dums went on to win the Western Australia state final of the National Campus Band Competition. In late 2007 the band renamed to Tame Impala unveiling another new drummer and replacing the two-guitar attack for the more traditional guitar/bass/ drums format. Devenport went on to pursue an acting career. In July 2008 the band signed a worldwide deal with independent label Modular Recordings

FEELS LIKE WE ONLY GO

BACKWARDS

It feels like I only go backwards, baby Every part of me says go ahead I got my hopes up again, no no, not if it Feels like we only go backwards darling I know that you think you sound silly when you call my name But I hear it inside my head all day Then I realize I’m just holding on to the hope that maybe your feelings don’t show It feels like I only go backwards, baby Every part of me says go ahead I got my hopes up again, no no, not if it Feels like we only go backwards darling

Sea of all this indecision isn’t me, oh no Cause I decided long ago if that’s the way it seems to go We draw us apart to get to something real, it feels It feels like I only go backwards, darling Every part of me says go ahead I got my hopes up again, no no, not again Feels like we only go backwards darling It feels like I only go backwards, baby Every part of me says go ahead I got my hopes up again, no no, not if it Feels like we only go backwards darling It feels like I only go backwards, baby Every part of me says go ahead I got my hopes up again, no no, not if it Feels like we only go backwards darling It feels like I only go backwards, baby

Leif PODHAJSKY Leif Podhajsky is an Australian graphic designer and art director, well known for his album art working with artists such as Tame Impala, Foals, The Vines, Lykke Li, Gypsy & The Cat, Shabazz Palaces, Young Magic, Toy, The Horrors, Mount Kimbie and Bonobo.

Podhajsky’s work has been described as “striking abstractions of nature – mirrored vistas, engulfing waves, rippling, melting cosmic landscapes”.[1] Podhajsky has worked with many different musical artists and, in addition to creating album art, has also created artwork for a number of record labels around the world, such as Warp Records, Modular Records, Sub Pop Records and Sony Music, with tour posters, t-shirts and other merchandise. Podhajsky has also worked with Australian psychedelic rock band Tame Impala on numerous occasions, creating art for their album Innerspeaker and its follow-up Lonerism, and also creating art for their singles “Solitude Is Bliss”, “Lucidity”, “Expectation”, “Why Won’t You Make Up Your Mind?”, “Apocalypse Dreams” and Elephant. Podhajsky’s personal philosophy on working with musical artists is “I try and work with artists who I respect - whose music I would want to listen to. A lot of albums that have my work on them are on solid rotation. Ideally I like to spend a lot of time with the music working out a story and concept which I can capture the whole albums feel and flow.”[3] Podhajsky also uses album art to “create one image which encompasses an entire album of story and emotion”. Music also inspires Podhajsky in “not just work for record labels or bands, but across everything I do. I find it helps me turn the part of my brain that over analyses and makes things logical switch off. This helps as it lets me form compositions in a more natural and fluid way, so it felt really organic to begin creating artwork for musicians. I have always loved album art and think it can really add to the whole experience of an album.”

Podhajsky’s work explores themes of connectedness, love, fear, magic, the relevance of nature and the psychedelic or altered experience, and uses techniques such as pattern, recursion, balance, symmetry and repetition.[3] By utilizing these subjects he attempts to “coerce the viewer into a realignment with themselves and their surroundings”.[1] Conceptually, Podhajsky believes “the concepts I explore are universal to all humans and I believe we have lost touch with a lot of these in our modern lives. We’re all secretly searching for answers to true happiness and contentment.”

XXYYXX Marcel Everett, better known as XXYYXX, is an electronic musician and producer from Orlando, Florida signed to Relief In Abstract. He is most notable for gaining a prominence within the indie music culture, despite his young age and experimental lo-fi music, which he made in his bedroom with Fruity Loops Studio and software from Ableton.

Everett himself described his music as “Doing drugs on a freeway... underwater, in an interview with Relief in Abstract Records.[6] His style was also likened to Clams Casino, Zomby, Burial, James Blake and The Weeknd.[4][9] His musical influences include Lapalux, Star Slinger, Disclosure and Shlohmo. A music video for his song, About You, which has over 10 million views was directed by Jeffrey Vash.

XXYYXX has also made remixes for artists such as Tinashe and Usher. It was announced in January 2013 that XXYYXX would be one of the headliners of the San Francisco Noise Pop festival in February, 2013.
