THEORETICAL PROJECTS MAPPING ANALYSIS AND STRATEGY
THE MATILDA BAY TRANSCRIPTS LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE STUDIO- EXPANSIONS SEMESTER 1. 2020 UNIT COORDINATOR: SARAH MAY
THE MATILDA BAY TRANSCRIPTS
The proposals aim to define a landscape strategy that transforms this site into an urban park for the 21st century, meeting not only its obligations for conservation and recreation but also the city’s requirements for supporting biodiversity and the University’s goal of learning through new technologies and multi-disciplinary approach.
THE MATILDA BAY TRANSCRIPTS
Chapter 1: The Park What is future for us will be the present for another in time to come. With new modes of transportation, people get from to point even more efficiently. As the pace of everyday life increases, public spaces are being re-defined by different zones with varying speeds of use for visitors to enjoy. THE PARK.

Chapter 2: The Habitats Human-centric designs are no longer the primary move. Designing for the eco-systems around us has become the catalyst for the survival of mankind. It is a co-dependant relationship. We begin to cultivate resilient landscapes, protecting the flora and fauna environment around us. THE HABITATS.

Chapter 3: The School UWA is situated in a unique location near Swan River. This creates an opportunity for learning to take place beyond the physical grounds of University. We begin to understand our place in Matilda Bay, with connections to the surrounding context around us- school, park, city and river. THE SCHOOL.

Chapter 4: The City In this world of ‘give-andtake’, we produce carbon footprint and heat to the environment through our daily and recreational activities. The active and passive zones would inform the use of public spaces. Future modes of transportation would be encouraged to for people to enjoy these connections. THE CITY.

Chapter 5: The River With the knowledge of climate change, we are constantly questioning the sustainability of our way of life- What will happen to the environment in the midst of global warming? What does it mean when the sea level rises and water eventually sips into our daily lives? How will we adapt to these changes then? THE RIVER.

Chapter 7: Mapping Analysis Through a set of Theoretical drawings, I argue that the relationships between spaces and their use, objects and events, being and meaning are part of a scripted journey. The following serves as research for a biophilic approach- to regenerate the river, cultivate resilient landscapes and reconnect people to places. THE MAPPING ANALYSIS.

Legend Suburb division line Possible flood areas with rise of sea levels
• By 2100, studies show that sea levels would generally have a rise of 1.3m. • This means that the possible areas of flooding within Swan River would spread and sip into parts of Crawley campus, Kings Park and even the City of Perth.
