Theprogramyouwillbehearingtonightismeanttobe anexampleofamoreimmersivechoralexperience thathappensmuchlikeaplay:onatimelinewitha through-concept.Theideaoftimeandspaceistobe conceivedontwoplanes:oneoftheindividual’stravels throughtimeandtheirrelationshiptopeopleand themselfwhiletimepasses;andtwo,thetravelfrom Earthelementsintomoregalacticalelements.
Allthepiecesonthisprogramarebylivingcomposers, allwhoareindifferentstagesoftheirlife.Wewerevery fortunatetowelcome,andproduce,afewofour composersthisyearatChaminade.Helplessness Bluesisarrangedbytwostudents,MiraSumeand WesleySimpkin,donethisschoolyear.OnTuesday,we welcomeaward-winningcomposerand accomplishedsingerShawnKirchnertoChaminadeto workwiththeconcertchoironhistwopieces.
Thisyearhasbeenoneofrebuilding,andthestudents haveboughtintothestandardofexcellenceand culturethatthechoralprogramhas.Allchoirsswept GoldRatingsatourfestivalinApril,includingthreeTop Soloistawards.Thiswouldn’thappenwithoutthe supportfromthefamilies,friends,andadministration atChaminade,andforthatIamverygrateful.

MatthewParkhasworked29yearsasamusiciananddirector. HeiscurrentlymusicdirectoratSt.JohnEudesCatholic ChurchinChatsworth,Californiawherehedirects3different choirs.HealsoservesasthedirectoroftheSanFernando ValleyMaleChorusandhastouredthroughoutEuropeand Asiawithvariouschoirs.Matthewservesastheaccompanist for4differentschool'schoralprogramsandhasbeenwiththe ChaminadeFamilyforabout18years. Inaddition,he directs/accompaniesseveralmusicaltheatreshowsayear. Venuesinclude:SimiValleyCulturalArtsCenter,CSUN,Hunger Artist'sTheatre,SantaMonicaPlayhouse,HighStreetTheatre, SCCT,GranadaTheatre,TROLL,IOTA,NotSoArtfulProductions, ChaminadeCollegePreparatory,SantaSusanaHighSchool, andAlemanyHighSchool.HewouldliketothankAnaMaria, Mateo,andtheirdogCharliefortheirloveandsupport.
